  1. I just had some White Bass fillets from fish I caught this weekend, I thought they were pretty good, I didn't soak them in anything, rolled them in corn meal and fried them in Canola oil. Maybe my taste buds aren't that sensitive, but they tasted fine to me. One thing I do, and it's with any fish I intend to keep, is ice them down as soon as they're in the boat, no stringer, no livewell, it's the cooler for them. Nothing like filleting ice cold fish when you get home.
  2. Launched early this AM at Indian Creek, motored over to Horn Hollw and started throwing 1/16 ounce white Road Runner up to the brush on the banks, slow rolling it back, I was looking for crappie, but ended up catching about 10 nice whites (several were 2-2 1/2 lbs.). They were scattered along the banks, it was more like fishing for largemouth than whites, some would be right on the bank and some I caught right up at the boat. Lots of shad in the area and some of the fish looked like they still had eggs, so maybe they are spawning up in that area. Anyway they were fun on light tackle. But at 0900 the sun came out and they just flat stopped, I fished until 1130 and never caught another white, just a few spots.
  3. Big ol' storm rolling through here right now, got real dark out, the streetlights came on, and it's raining like crazy. Fortunately there don't appear to be any tornados being spawned by this stuff.
  4. LOL, imitation "Crap" meat - I'm sure it's a typo, but funny! This is something I want to try, sounds good, and healthy too.
  5. Don't know about the mud line, but if I am reading the charts right, it looks like the lake has gone up about 5 feet in the last few days.
  6. Thanks - I like the way it looks.
  7. What lure is that MRCold?
  8. The Strike King Wake Shad looks very nice, but $22.00 each! Yowch!
  9. Their tech rep said they may not work well when the temp is 48-60? Sheesh, that scares me away from Shimano, plenty of good reels out there that work well when the temps are a little cool.
  10. I ma curious about your custom Roadrunners -what do you do to customize them?
  11. Speaking of Xpress, I have a 17' sorta flat greenish colored Xpress. 60HP Yamaha. I have an Ozark angler sticker on the port side. I don't fish TR very much, but I do fish the White river arm every once in a while above Holiday Island.
  12. I'm interested in going, I'll send you a message with my info.
  13. I've been meaning to get down there and try it myself. I have heard there are walleye in the lake, but don't know if that's true or not. It's a pretty lake for sure.
  14. I was out fishing near Monte Ne, thunderstorm rolled in over the hill, lightning was striking close by, and it started to rain as hard as it can rain. I got back to the dock, got the boat out of the water and sat in my jeep for about 10 minutes waiting for the rain to slow down so I could put on the tiedowns. Must have had an inch of water in the boat. It's scary when the lightning is that close, when you see the flash and hear the CRACK at the same time, you know it's close. As I as zooming in to the dock, I passed several boats that were still fishing. Maybe fiberglass does not conduct electrcity.
  15. Yes, thanks for the link!
  16. I don't have satellite , I wonder if they have it on cable?
  17. Timely topic... Just yesterday I was fishing Beaver in the Indian creek area, I have been tossing 1/8 ounce marabou road runners lately and having a lot of fun catching Kentuckys on an ultralight setup with 4# line. Last week I caught a 3 lb striper by accident that was quite a handful on that rig. Anyway, I thought that was a fluke, well yesterday I'm fishing the roadrunner around some scattered timber and WHAM! I see a big silver flash - fish looked to be 10#'s or so, I assume it was a striper, but not a hundred percent sure, anyway there's nothing I can do but hang on and start follwing it around with my foot on the trolling motor, like I said there's some standing timber and a couple of times the fish heads towards some trees but somehow I'm able to keep him away from them while at the same time manuevering the boat, but I just could not get him pointed towards open water where I might have been able to wear him out and boat him. Finally, inevitably, he gets hung on a tree, snap goes the line, and I was left with that deeply depressed feeling I get whenever I lose a big fish. Still bugs me this morning to think about it. When I fished for steelhead and salmon in Washington state I lost several big fish that I wish I could have at least seen, just to see how big they were. Those fish are all now long dead but they live on in my memory.
  18. 2 weeks ago there were lots of Kentucky bass in the Indian creek arm on the north side of the arm on the sunny, windy banks. The biggest one I caught was maybe a pound and a half, but they are lots of fun on a light oufit like you have. I was using a 1/8 ounce white marabou road runner. There's also quite a bit of timber in the water in that area at least for Beaver so you should feel right at home. I may be there Saturday myself, haven't made up my mind yet.
  19. I wonder why they don't eat the catfish?
  20. Trot line - Where the heck did that come from? The line part I understand, but "Trot"??
  21. Wildeye - Were you able to keep your shad alive? Just curious how long they stayed alive and what you kep them in. I can net them over in OK, but keeping them alive long enough to make it back to fish them in Beaver is the challenge.
  22. Yes, thanks! Even though I fish Beaver rather than Table Rock, it seems that what applies to Table Rock also will work on Beaver. So I appreciate the tips and advice.
  23. I think I remember seeing your boat go by Jaybird. I was in a 17ft green Xpress, fishing the north bank. I started out by where Indian creek comes in and moved down the north bank as the day went on.
  24. Nice sunny day, a little chilly but not bad. Tried for whites for a while, cast and trolled Shad Raps to no avail, talked to a fellow who had caught a few small males a week earlier but didn't have any when I talked to him, they just weren't in the area, so I decided to try for Crappie. Started slow rolling a 1/8 ounce White road runner around the banks and timber, no crappie but I did catch quite a few Spots and one small striper. I was using my ultralite jig rod with 4 lb. fluoro and with an outfit like that, a 1 lb. Spot is a challenge. The striper about won the battle, I hooked him in between two tree and if he had gone left or right he would have escaped with my jig, but he chose to stay between the trees and after some anxious moments I was able to boat him. For you turkey hunters, I saw a nice Tom strutting by the bank, could not get close enough for a good pic unfortunately, but I got some fish pics:
  25. BTW if you get the Arkansas Democrat Gazette there is an article about this in the sports section in today's paper.
