  1. Thanks, dtrs5kprs. Great advice. I'll give those suggestions a try also. Lots to learn!
  2. I have that. There is no doubt. Is fishing the treatment or the ailment?
  3. I think you shoulda brought me! Lol! Stupid work.
  4. Good report. That's something I'm going to need to try sometime.
  5. Excellent!
  6. I'm double posting the question from another thread but does the topwater bite last all summer? Those micky jr's look interesting. Just got some spooks and pop r's to try on saturday. I saw some shad skipping and a few surface bites. I tried for a little bit but no luck. I think I got there just a tad too late. I'll be trying again this week.
  7. Good report. How long does the top water typically last at TR? Is it all summer or just while the bait fish spawn?
  8. Don't sweat the grammar. I'm on my phone too. Man, a house boat would be cool. I have a long ways before I could afford that! Just a bass tracker for me. We are so fortunate to have so many fishing opportunities around. I sure look forward to exploring all of them. I have fished pretty much all of the area rivers and streams. I'll always love canoeing and camping on a bank. One of my favorite things to do. I have always wanted to fish the lakes but couldn't afford a boat until now. I'm as happy as a pig in mud. Thanks for all your suggestions. I fully intend to fish all those places. Would love to get into walleye too down at Bull Shoals. Heck, if it swims I like to catch it! Thanks again bud. Lots of great info and suggestions.
  9. I live near Highlandville. I have been putting in at Indian Point and Aunts Creek. Cape Fair isn't too far for me but I have not put in there yet. I'm still just kind of exploring. I'll need to become more familiar with that area. I would love to give that a shot for sure. I love to night fish. Thanks for all the pointers. Much appreciated!
  10. I MUST try night fishing down there. That sounds so exciting. I do a lot of night fishing on Taney in fall and rivers all summer for smallies. Great fun. I could only imagine the excitement on the rock. I will definitely be giving that a go once I have some more knowledge of the lake. So black spinners and black jigs? I'll need to remember that. I'm told large 10" motor oil or black worms work well too. I'm sure I'll try that soon. Daytime, I'm quickly learning, is a parade of tubers and jet skies. Nothing wrong with that. They are allowed too. But that mixed with hot summer sun makes for miserable fishing.
  11. Thanks, ozarkgunner. That is what I was doing since mid spring. I have been throwing those since April and having great success but fewer fish with each trip. I was using 3/16 oz jig head with white or smoke yamamoto grubs. This technique really slowed down for me as the water warmed. I assumed it was just a springtime pattern. Like you said, I may just not be deep enough now. I really enjoy that style of fishing as a beginner. Just cast out and reel in slow with some pauses. What can be simpler? I'll move out a little and keep trying that. Should I wait before I begin the retreive since they are getting deeper? All I hear is drop shot and c-rig so that's why I started trying it. I thought it was the go to summer technique. I have a guide scheduled but it will be a couple weeks. I don't know how many times I can afford that without getting some words with the wife. Thanks again, bud.
  12. I am new to fishing Table Rock and looking for advice. I have been fishing Ozarks rivers and streams for years. I just recently (finally) bought a bass boat. Been going to TR pretty frequently since I live fairly close. Lots of lake to explore. A bit intimidating for this canoe fly fisher . I was doing pretty fair during the early/mid spring using grubs, swimbaits and tubes on lake points. The last couple weeks though the water has warmed and the fish are going deeper and has totally shut off for me. I have been trying a few things that I have read about (mostly here but also reports from local guides). 1. Drop shot rig with a 1/4 oz weight, 24" leader; tried purple 4" roboworms, yamamoto finesse minnow pumpkin seed and even live night crawlers. 2. Carolina rig with 3/4 oz weight. 24" leader with UV beaver different colors. 3. Early morning top water pop r and spooks. Locations have been lake points at about 20' of water. I troll at about 40' to 60' and cast toward the point. With the c-rig I cast out and slowly drag back. Lifting the rod tip a little to drag on the bottom drop the rod tip back down and reel slack. I take little pauses and if I feel a large rock or stump I shake a little bit. I do a similar retrieve with the drop shot only much slower to keep it on the bottom. I don't have very good electronics right now. Hope to upgrade later. Because of the quality, I don't use it much besides depth, structure and temp. It's also mounted on the console so I can't really see it from the front. One thing I have noticed on my recent trips is the lake clarity is completely different near the aunts creek than Indian point areas. Do these techniques work on all parts of the lake? Am I using the wrong techniques for the area? I have been reading everything I can, studying maps, etc. It's definetly fun learning a new fishing style, technique and exploring new waters. Zero fish days hurt a little(OK a lot) but I still have fun. I would love to hear advice to make the experience a bit a more enjoyable. If there are other recommendations of things to try or materials to learn from I would appreciate it. It's clear I have lots to learn.
  13. Got to the water pretty late today. We arrived at about 8:40 and there was one unit generating when we got there. So, off to breakfast we went. I know this isn't the place for restaurant reviews, but we went to, I think it's called "Table Rock Inn and Restaurant". As a joke my fishing buddies and I always call it simply "Restaurant". Great food! Had the best chicken fried steak, eggs and hashbrowns! Mmmm, mmm! Ok, now on the the report. They shut the water off at about nine. We got suited up and on the water at about 9:40. Fished the flats between 1 and 2. There was a HUGE midge hatch for the first 45 minutes we where there. I was using a size 20 red zebra midge tied below a size 16 tan scud. 7X tippet. like I said, I was using red, but I honestly think they would have hit any color midge pattern. It was pretty steady there on the midge. After about an hour they stopped hitting the midge and were taking the scud consistently. After that slowed down I gave them something else to look at and tied on a red butt, size 18 with a size 16 grey scud below that. Caught some good numbers till we left at 1:30. The fish fought hard and were very aggressive. There were plenty of decent browns all through the flats. I could see several 15 - 20 inchers stacked through there. I was a little worried that it would be slow today. I have heard some say it has been slow. I have been fishing at night for the last month, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was a very good day. And the breakfast was great!
  14. Well, sort of, they don't pay Lilley directly. Here is how it works - Those ads you see that say "Ads by Google" are organizations who pay Google a per click amount to have their sites featured on random websites based on what they are willing to pay and keywords they choose. The organizations that have ads on this forum probably chose 'fishing', 'Branson', etc. How often they appear depends on how much they are willing to spend. When a website owner, like Lilly, joins the Adsense program, they put a little code on their website which then scans the site and displays random ads based on the content. Every time you click on an ad here, Lilly receives a small payment, and because it's a pay per click ad, the organization has to pay for the clicks it receives. Every click costs the organization, depending on the keyword it could be anything from a penny to several dollars (or more) per click. Most of the time, in my experience, it's around 0.50 - 1.00 per click. The payment Lilly receives depends on several factors such as site traffic and how many ads where clicked. You can make good money of you have a good amount of traffic and have the ads positioned strategically so people click them. Bill - What a scary bunch of individuals. I think if they ever tried to directly interfere with anglers, they would have some serious problems. Most anglers are very passionate about the sport. It's not just a coat, it's what some of us live for.
  15. Cool. Thanks for the report. I'm taking a friend down tomorrow morning who has not fished in a while. Hopefully the fish are biting for us. I want to show him a good time. Sounds like patience and a low profile is the key. Probably a lot of fall pressure on them. Did you by chance try any egg patterns this trip? Just wondering if I should tie a few of those for tomorrow.
  16. I would love to see the pelican pictures. That's hilarious. How did you guys release them without getting pecked in the eye. You should email those to the 'PETAphiles'. I read that book as well. After reading the book I felt the same way, it got me thinking about global warming in a different way. Maybe there are some that have ulterior motives. And I think it is important to have some debate on the subject of global warming. With that said, however, I still think there probably is truth to the threat of global warming. I think there is enough evidence to support the theory. Also, I think it's definitely the responsible thing to do to try and keep this planet clean from pollution etc, even if it turns out science is wrong. On the other hand, there are some people, like anything else, that jump on the bandwagon. They support something they don't really understand. They drive hybrid cars and replace a few light bulbs and think they are better then everyone else. Probably some of the same people as the PETA organization.
  17. 'PETAphiles' I like it.
  18. That raises a good point I have thought of before. I wonder how many people don't keep a limit just because they are afraid what others might think. For me it's just a pain and a waste. I would get sick of fish in a hurry considering I go at least twice a week. I don't think I could eat that many fish in a week
  19. I completely agree with those words JobyKSU. "Imagine using worms and flies to catch ... eagles and ospreys and hauling them around on 50 feet of line while they tried to get away. " -- This happened to me a couple of times while fishing for Dorado in Mexico. Not the type of sport I was looking for! Haha! So what kind of bird did you catch? I know someone who caught a bat at Taney a couple of weeks ago. So far I have not seen him fishing for bats since then. I don't think he liked it either.
  20. I saw this ad here on the forums, an anti-fishing campaign from PETA. Was wondering when we would start hearing their opinion on fishing. Some of these people are nuts! When you really break things down, like they do, everything human beings do will eventually, even if indirectly, disturb the natural habitat. It's sad but true. Are we supposed to give up furniture? Wood takes homes away from wildlife. Or maybe wear synthetics? Well most of those are made from plastics and oil byproducts. Oil drilling takes away habitat. It's ridiculous! If you really break it down, they are a bunch of hypocrites! What about all the good things fishermen do? The conservation of waterways and wildlife, etc. I consider myself a conservationist. The environment is very important to me. But I think PETA sometimes goes too far. This just makes me angry. http://www.fishinghurts.com/feat-dogfish.asp If you see this ad on here, click it! It brings Lilly some money for the click, plus it costs them money when people click on it. Let's make it expensive for them, hahaha. (Actually, I can't remember the Google Adsense agreement so maybe we shouldn't purposefully click it, wouldn't want Lilly in trouble)
  21. Stumbled on this old article from MDC. I noticed the side note at the bottom of the page. I thought it would make an interesting topic for discussion here on this fine forum. How many of you guys keep the fish you catch? Do you think the slot limit should be changed or fine the way it is? This is an old article and I am sure the conservation department knows what they're doing and this has not become a problem. Just curious to see what people say. I personally don't keep fish from anywhere very often. I do on rare occasions, or, if a friend or family member requests a fish dinner. P.S. - And yes I am really that bored, they are running generators right now:) From: http://mdc.mo.gov/conmag/2001/04/10.htm "Too Many Trout? Every year, the Conservation Department, with help from the Neosho National Fish Hatchery, stocks nearly 750,000, 10- to 12-inch rainbow trout in Lake Taneycomo below the mouth of Fall Creek. Most of these fish are caught soon after they are stocked near the area where they were released. A few survive long enough to move greater distances. Some move into the special regulations area in the upper three miles of the lake. The fishing regulations in the special management area allow anglers to harvest rainbow trout that are smaller than 12 inches. However, surveys show that most anglers fishing this area release nearly every rainbow trout they catch, regardless of size. In less than three years, the number of trout in the upper three miles has grown to ten times the number present before the regulations were established. If fish density gets too high, it may not be possible to grow big fish. Anglers fishing the upper area can help by harvesting some of the smaller rainbows-those smaller than 12 inches. Many anglers agree that these are the best sizes for cooking and eating"
  22. Sorry to double post. Since we are on the subject. I have always wondered. Does anyone know if public recreational activities have any effect on generation? Do "the powers that be" at the Southwest Power Administration work with conservation departments or other organizations to accommodate the needs of the public to give so much alloted time for recreational activities such as hunting, fishing swimming, etc.? Or do they just generate randomly when power is needed? I always wondered if they had some sort of alloted time they try to shut them off for public use. I highly doubt that they do, but quite frequently they are off on weekends.
  23. Just wanted to let those of who don't already know or for those people planning trips. There is a website and toll free number to get predicted generation. It's not always totally accurate and sometimes the data is old on the website, so look at the date carefully. Over the last few weeks it has pretty much been right for me. Website: http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx Toll free number: 866-494-1993
  24. Thanks for the report lilly. I think it's been slow because the night crew is wearing them out(duckydoty, Leonard and the rest). I'm fairly new at night fishing but have been a few times a week the last month with fantastic success. (Still owe duckydoty a beer or two for showing me around). I've been wondering about the day though. Have not seen many reports from below the dam. Sounds tough!
  25. Thanks! Sounds like you didn't do too bad! I stopped in at that fly shop last year. They gave good advice on the flies, but not so much on the places to go. Which wasn't their fault. I was interested in going in the back country and hiking/camping as well as fishing. A lot to ask for I suppose. He gave good tips on general areas to target, but did not know about the hiking/camping areas. I ended up choosing a spot that a park ranger advised. The camping and hiking was great but the fishing was very poor, lol. So this time I am trying to do more research, or, maybe not be so picky. Base my camping on the fishing area instead of basing my fishing on the camping area. Thanks for the reply, I will certainly post a report, that is, if I have anything to report.
