  1. I have 3, all made by Stearns. I have one that is about 15 years old and it came inside of a Browning Fly Vest that I used to wear wading on trips where I was out alone. I have another waist pack type on a belt, you pull the cord, it inflates, and you either ride or put it over your head. The last is the Sospender type I use from time to time when boating and duck hunting. I really can't tell if they work, never pulled the cord and had to use them. But all are better than a big bulky pfd.
  2. You may be right, I thought it was one of the "cheese worms" that have been around for a long time.
  3. I talked to a couple of guys at work today, I guess the tomatoes got the "blight" and died off. Never had it, but it sure does a number.
  4. It keeps them from flopping around......
  5. Not everyone lets the feral animals get away
  6. I saw this on Craigslist tonite while searching for something else. Why bother to tye it on? Just stick a hook thru the middle like all of the guides did back in the 80's when it first came out. http://semo.craigslist.org/spo/4003066599.html It is not a "legal" fly on any water that bans soft plastics.
  7. We had the monsoon set in a few weeks back that resulted in 3 weeks of rainy, cloudy weather. We never did get too much rain, but we lost alot of good hot sunshine during that time. My tomatoes were doing great, then all of a sudden, the vines just died, leaving a load of green tomatoes. Grape tomato vines died out about 3/4 of the way. Grape tomatoes were swelling and busting before ripening. Cherry tomato that grew out of the compost bin again this year is healthy and producing. Okra looks great, but not blooming and putting on. Cucumbers died just like the tomatoes. Squash are still hanging on but not setting any fruits. Bell Pepper are doing great. I plowed under the dead cucs, pumpkins that never set a pumpkin, and green beans today. Sowed some mustard and turnips in the place to add some cover crop on the garden. Planted lettuce and radishes in the raised beds. I really don't know what is going on with the garden, it has me stumped. It really seems like something is missing.
  8. I watched a large watersnake wrestle with a catfish for about an hour last summer on a stream. I first noticed a commotion on the other bank and saw the fish flopping. The snake had caught a catfish larger than it could handle and was trying to swallow it. It was a steep bank on the other side and the snake could not control the fish. It would drag it out of the water and try to swallow. The fish would flop and they would tumble back down to the water. The catfish managed to break loose a few times, but the snake would catch it before it got into deep enough water to swim. Don't know if he ever got the job done, I finally decided to get back to fishing and left the 2 alone to play the game.
  9. Every time I kill one at the farm, I consider it a "treat" to my family.
  10. The moisture has mushrooms popping up all around here too. But nothing edible that I can tell. Some big toad stools in fairy rings in alot of places.
  11. That just racial.
  12. How about a big ole bear woofing in the background?
  13. Watch your kids, they may need to feed like the one did last week. Killed 2 kids while they slept. You might be surprised what they will survive, I doubt if the weather around here will kill them. It does not seem to have much effect on native species. Oh well, worse case scenario, more pistol targets.
  14. I wonder if you could hack a radio to track their collars. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. 30K fish in a bucket.
  15. Silver Dollar City brand, Harp's carries it. I have to pick it up when I visit Spring River, nobody on this side of the state carries it.
  16. Non reactive sauce pan. Don't want Teflon to taint that mix. Sounds good, but takes too long. I had to BBQ some ribs tonight while cleaning catfish, fixing a torqued trolling motor that hit a stump, charging the batteries, picking garden, and trolling around on here. I am just going to slather the ribs with some good ole Branson Ozark Recipe BBQ sauce.
  17. When I waded thru my garden yesterday, fighting skeeters along the way, I noticed that most of my tomato vines have turned yellow and are dying. Could it be the lack of heat, extreme moisture in a time that is normally dry, and lack of sunshine? The rest of the garden is suffering too. Okra looks fine, no okra. Cucumbers are mildewing and failing rapidly. Squash is still looking fine, squash bugs must be drowning, normally they are chewing up the plant this time of year, pumpkins suck, waste of space. How is everyone's garden doing now, during the monsoon?
  18. You still come out ahead with the Twinkies, the new ones are smaller.
  19. I got that part all the way up to awadmfya. Guess I will have to google it.
  20. Hmm. A fall float from Thomasville would be unheard of most years. It may just be feasible this year.
  21. Looks like a little minner. Bass love them.
  22. From what I had read so far on the story, it seemed like it was from the side that was floating the river. One stated he was shot at 3 ft., another stated he was shot trying to push the gun away. Interesting to see what happens when the truth comes out.
  23. First Cousin or further down the gene pool?
