When Fishing/hiking, Do You Carry A Handgun?

The good thing about CCW, it is elective and a choice. If you don't want to or don't feel comfortable doing it, you don't have to. For those that want to, they can. CCW backers are not out "forcing" anyone to carry if they don't want to. Violent Crime is on the decrease since more citizens have armed themselves, legally, thru a popular vote in an election process. There have not been any shootouts on the streets that I am aware of by armed citizens trying to solve a point like the old west. Nobody in their right mind "dreams" of a massacre like the theater incident, it is a nightmare to most civilized people. Most CCW certified individuals do not really carry on a daily basis. But they have been thru a training course and certified, so they are more educated on firearms than they were before. They are certainly more educated than the ones that have not. The world is not a nice place, and bad guys don't always lurk around after midnight in dark alleys. Most major violent crime in the past few years has taken place in broad daylight or a public place that has been deemed safe enough that they prohibit the personal carry of self defense weapons. Schools, theaters, colleges, political gatherings, and even a military base. -
Wind and lightening are my main concerns when I am outdoors. A gust of wind can flip a boat, a widow maker could do damage to a boat or a tent. There is a lake wind advisory posted for the entire region this weekend. Flash flood would be my least concern in this storm, it looks to be petering out moisture wise. When it hits our dry air, it will probably evaporate.

Will Isacc Be The Drought Buster For Southern Missouri?
jdmidwest replied to Jerry Rapp's topic in General Angling Discussion
I bet it goes around us. I will still water the garden as usual till I see it fall. 16 INCH shortage at local airport for the year so far. We would need several of these events to break even for the year. -
Looking at the latest storm track, it will still be packing 30mph winds when it goes thru the Ozarks Sat. That would concern me more than the rain and flooding. Wind blowing limbs and trees down. Paddling into the wind will be an issue all day too. It would be tough on a lake Sat.

Nice. Looks like a good weekend to get some in, calling for rain all weekend.
-
If the ground is already prepped, I would plant and cover with straw. Water heavy to pack the soil and get some hay or straw bales to divert the water flow on the up side of the hill. If the rain comes hard this weekend, you are going to lose your prepped soil if you don't do something.

Are there any signs of the human that was carrying the peaches when the bear attacked him?
-
Have you ever seen a dog size critter poop peach seeds? It came from a herbivore or an omnivore, not a carnivore.

You might want to go to a tire shop and get a better rated tire. Most stores only carry light load rated trailer tires, a tire shop can order some that have heavier load rating and better tread wear. Look at the load range rating on the tire, should be B, C, D, E or something like that. Make sure you keep them properly inflated per the poundage on the tire.

More patterns on that blog too. Nice.

I laughed at my buddy Sunday when we arrived at the park. It was the longest drive that I could remember getting to the park. In old days, get up a 3 and try to make the horn or shortly after. Anymore, Its more like this weekend, enjoy the trip and the sideshow, then catch a few fish. Reeds is a good source for everything at the park, they should get you on track when you get there. As far as Geocaching, www.geocaching.com is the place to go. It lists all the sites, you can download them to a gps or smartphone and head out. My buddy is a geocache fool, carries a bag of stuff to put and take. I just sign off and go. I like to dig thru and see what some leave and read the log. Some logs leave a paragraph or two, most are just dates and user names, mine is jdmidwest. They can take you to some interesting places, and that is what I like about it. Cemeteries are my favorite, there is alot of history in them. Some we have been to hold some of the original citizens that homestead the land. Geocaching has been a great time killer between myself and some of my friends. It is like the old time scavenger hunt with modern tech. You can use a smartphone, but most are remote and you will not have a signal, so a dedicated gps device is needed. There is some skill and reasoning involved, most that place the cache try to hide them well to prevent the public from stealing them. I signed off on a log this weekend that was a magnetic tube about the size of a medium popper fly. I also visited one that held more trinkets than the local dollar store. It is fun to do when the weather deals you a crappy day but you still want to get out of the house.

After a week from hell, it was time to get out of town. I had not been to Montauk since I closed it out last fall on Halloween. After seeing the forecast, I booked a room at the Country Inn in Licking. Calling for rain and a burn ban in the park killed the idea of camping. I hate camping without a fire, pretty boring sitting around a dark campsite drinking beer. Picked my buddy up at Terre Du Lac at 9am Sat. It was already cloudy and misting by the time we made it to Potosi, so we decided to kick back and do some yard sales. Yard sales turned to flea markets and pawn shops by the time we arrived in Salem as the rain picked up some. We did that till 5 and closed the last one down. Checked into the motel in Licking and out came the GPS. Off to Houston to Geocache. Picked up a dozen caches then drove back to Licking to eat at Olig's BBQ. After that, we knocked out a few more caches in Licking and called it a night. Got up this morning and had a nice breakfast at the Coffee Cup in Licking. Finished up finding the last few caches in Licking and off to Montauk. Crowds were light and the river was low. We fished the upper end of the campground to the handicap bridge and caught several fish. All my fish in the morning were on a bead head nymph. After that, up to the fly area. We fished an hour in the catch and release stream. They were really liking the foam beetles and we caught several each. Then over to the river and we picked up several more on primrose and pearl and my new lightening bug. Drove back home picking up a few more caches along Hwy 32. Followed a rain from Caledonia to TDL. Came home and watered the garden and the bees. A nice relaxing weekend.

When Fishing/hiking, Do You Carry A Handgun?

I have seen them in line while waiting to buy my used to be "on the shelf" Sudafed that I take daily for allergies. One tell tale sign is the rotten missing front teeth. Sores on their lips where they burn them on the pipes, Twitchy, nervous behaviour, can't stand or sit still. -
Nobody else remembers the Crippled Caddis that used to post on here?

Yet the average Walmart Pharmacy can't tell the difference between them and someone suffering from a cold or allergies........ The actual burden to society is the money spent on the penal system to house them, the Hazmat Teams to clean up their messes, the dental bills charged to Medicaid, and the thievery of honest hard working citizens to support their habits. It is an epidemic that has no end in sight. Hollywood makes TV shows that make it look cool to proliferate it. It is what it is, drug abuse. -

Should be. The law does not seem to have much effect on them. -
It has been a long time since I had seen him online here. He used to be a regular. Great guy. I met him down there one time for lunch, we shared an interest in the old Crosman air rifles among other things.

MO does have some areas that you can't Open Carry, but they are populated areas called cities. Ark has some funny rules about loaded weapons near boat accesses. -

Duckydoty, Phil??? I have noticed a lack of Alaska adventures this year. I know you guys are up there, post some reports... I am getting the itch, I need to make another trip back there next year. Starting to plan tomorrow. This time I am thinking about a trip with a group of friends, a camper, and an excellent road trip.
