  1. What do peacocks and mohawks have in common?? Now if you only half screwed a woman with a mullet, you may get a mohawk!
  2. Notice the little grilles off of computer fans, someone sit around an office bored to death this week.
  3. Just in time for the last BBQ weekend of the season, Lifehacker brings out the ultimate Altoids Can Grill, powered by a single charcoal briquette. Ok, I am bored and spending quality time with the family instead of out at some crowded campground. Altoids Grill
  4. Pygmy Muskie
  5. F bomb, personal attacks, I even brought out the O word just to draw attention to the antics on this one, there must be something coming before the red button....

There is a nice smooth rock in the middle of one of those sections I used to use as a lounger to sip cold beer on a hot summer afternoon. The water has carved it out just right. Then someone had to make it public. Did you see any collared lizards there?
  8. Did anybody catch the f-bomb on page 3?
  9. Last time I needed cell service at the park, we ended up almost to Salem to get a signal. It worked out well, my buddy was trying to get an extra night out and his wife shot him down. We were already 20 minutes closer to home. Verizon used to work at the lower end of the park and the hill at Baptist Access back in the analog days with the bag phone. With digital and ATT it has been nice and quiet for a long time.
  10. The feathers turkey, quail, and fur from a deer, squirrel or rabbit taken with a valid hunting license for the correct species can be sold to a licensed buyer, not the meat. The dove is a federal migratory bird and brings up other issues, but I can't say I have ever thought of a use for dove feathers other than maybe a soft hackle. Ducks and geese are federal birds also. I thought the idea was to swap also, I don't think there would be a problem other than the dove.
  11. It will hurt next year when the local Wally World stops carrying them and you did not save any seeds to plant them in your garden....... Seedless Watermelons are a lazy man's fruit, you should really learn the art of "spitting seeds".
  12. You have to have a migratory stamp to hunt them.
  13. I have seen the housing, most were built by the Conservation Corps during the depression. And it is small compared to most double wide trailers. Go up and take a look at it the next time you visit a park, there is usually a big sign on the road pointing to it when you drive thru. State Parks are open year round and there is usually only 1 Park Ranger per State Park so they are probably on "call" more than most jobs. MDC covers game violations, they are not there to patrol State Parks, it is a whole different job. There is usually only 1 MDC agent assigned to most counties, a certain county may have several Park Rangers depending on how many State Parks are in that county. If you are so concerned about saving taxpayer dollars, get out and vote in Nov. and stop the waste in Government.
  14. I have always wanted to time travel, go back and see what things were like before man screwed it up. But I want to do it with today's technology and luxuries..... I have seen pics of it with the dams and all of the hillsides stripped of timber back in the early 1900's and the old mills, it actually is better now than then. Stop by the visitor center in Mammoth and look at some of the old pics and tour the park. There was an action of the land this summer and I think lots were going for around 90k. From the looks of the stream, somebody was paying dearly to manipulate the stream for some reason or another.
  15. Riverside Resort rents kayaks, canoes, and rafts. If I was renting, I would choose the canoe as the kayaks are the simple sit on tops that are not made for fishing. There is a float camp that is renting Tarpon 100 and 120 which are great fishing Kayaks but I can't remember which one it was. As far as cold, winter is the best time. I have fished Lassiters in a blinding snow storm about 10 years back and caught fish.
  16. That is a good point. There was a time I used to brag about my "Home Waters" and post most of my trips on them, now I tend to be more discreet. But, I have several streams that I fish only when invited by friends that fish them as their "Home Waters". I don't post about those, I feel like I am a guest on their streams and I have to travel to fish them. I have not been on the streams with our one of them present in the boat with me. And they have done the same with me also. Eleven Point was one of those streams, for a long time I did not take some of my buddies I fish with to it or even suggest it, it was a stream that I fished with a close friend that showed me the stream or by myself only. But that was for different reasons, personal only. We still try to squeeze in at least one trip a year on it together. The last few have been spent with the sons and grandsons of the ones that used to fish it with me.
  17. Not to mention, the Dove is a Federal Bird.
  18. Yeah, Strongman at the park this weekend, now I know where I am heading...... Looks like the campground is in the open field behind the store and has full hookups. It is nice that someone has added some more sites as the park is always booked up months in advance.
  19. I smell BACON! Seriously, let any one of these guys walk up to an unknown in a car at a traffic stop on a lonely road at night and see how manly they are. You never really know what is sitting in the driver seat with a poor attitude toward a law enforcement officer and a gun. My utmost respect is for the MDC Agent, for the most part, he is sneaking up on a Game Violator, who is probably carrying a loaded firearm, too many things to go wrong in a hurry. Highway Patrol is another honorable profession that could turn deadly in seconds, professed by the several officers in MO that have lost their lives on the job. Yours is a deadly profession, but better now thanks to Kevlar and Technology. One thing I have noticed, most Park Rangers seem to only enforce park violations. Theft, hit and runs, and other violations require a County Sheriff or Deputy. My only dealings with a PR involved a bashed in fender on a new PU truck in a trout park, I was passed off to the Sheriff Dept. to make a report. Then there was this one time we overstayed our camping pay because we decided to stay and extra day at Bennett and tour Springfield. We came back late that night, after office had closed, built a fire and started relaxing. PR and a Sheriff Deputy pulled up demanding $8 like we were a couple of deadbeats. I really thought that was kind of petty.
  20. The quality of fishing on most of the streams I have fished in the past 40 years has degraded to the point once great streams are now mediocre of poor. Gravel has shallowed most of the waters, trees have disappeared along the banks, and the water levels have fell. Most of the ecological changes have depressed the fishing and the floating. They don't support the numbers of fish or the sizes that we had years ago. Then there are the new predators that affect the populations, otters, herons, etc that cut into the fish numbers also. Post a review on the www and millions of people have access to it. And the ones that have the most time on their hands can see it and say "Hey, I could have kept that nice mess of fish he caught". Then the next time thru, fishing sucks. Its not like the old days sitting around the coffee shop eating breakfast talking with your buddies about the weekend and someone overhears the conversation. I am selfish, I don't have alot of free time to spend on the streams, so I want the time I spend to be productive and enjoyable. I have to deal with the public all week, the last thing I want to do is deal with them on the streams. It is my private time, to be with myself, friends, or family. I used to post reports, now I do it only on really public streams that are large enough to support the extra numbers.
  21. Fishing was excellent this weekend. Kids are back in school and campground was lightly filled. Not many boats on the river and most were calm. Summer is over, except for next weekend. I assumed they applied for a permit to do what they did to the stream and bank. DNR would have to approve that kind of change in MO. Nothing like floating and being watched from a porch swing.
  22. I have been there several times myself on business and pleasure. It makes a nice backdrop for photo shoots and has some nice rock formations. I have not been there since last spring before the big wind, did it damage the park or the spring trail? I have wanted to go up in the winter time after the leaves fall and hike down the canyon to the park and take some pics.
  23. Because there are still some streams that do not get pounded to death by anglers. I know a few and tend to keep them to myself, and when I go there I have them to myself. Fishing in a crowd is not much fun.
  24. I think I know the place. Why would you step off the trail? Did you not pick up a copy of the trail guide at the head of the trail? BTW, Pickle Springs is a great place to do family photo shoots.
  25. I came across an interesting article on F&S online, Quicksand is not cool anymore. I can't say, in all of my streamside travels that I have ever came across anything remotely resembling quicksand. I even stick my foot in the little bubbly springs just to see how deep I will sink. Anyone ever seen Quicksand? I remember most survival books years ago taught you how to get out of it. Quicksand is not cool anymore?
