I think my neighbor may need one also, he lost one in an accident a few weeks back.

Last year I felt screwed as a landowner, I only got one tag for an "any deer". In the past, we got at least one bonus and I used it during the Muzzleloader part. I complained along with other landowners to the MDC and this year when my tags printed, I got both the Antlerless and the Any Deer tags. Last year it would have cost me an extra $7, which was BS because we take deer to control the population for the most part. Last year, acorn crop was nil, there was a drought, and the deer were in the pastures eating up grass we use for the horses. Hay was scarce due to a late frost and we really could not tolerate any "crop damage". One field we counted 30+ deer in a 30 acre patch and they were keeping the grass pretty thin. We own 235 acres, so the new law will not affect me or my dad. On a normal year we harvest 5-10 deer off our property depending on who we let hunt it. I harvested a 120 class buck and the others ended up with 5 slick heads. Had we received the free bonus tags, 5 more could have been thinned out. I believe that the winter and other factors may have done some herd thinning this year because the deer signs have not been as thick.

How about that Obama guy, by this time next year we will be hunting with sticks and stones! Who will care if there are any licenses.

It won't be until the 2009 season anyway!

Urban deer are a "problem" not really a crisis. They congregate inside city limits, eat gardens and shrubs, and hit cars. There are bowhunters that thin these herds in certain areas and, here locally in Cape Girardeau, there has been talk of a season to thin some of the herds here. Farmers have problems with deer populations, MDC works with the farmers to allow bonus tags to thin herds in certain locations to help with crop damage. I don't think populations in this state have gotten to the point of any problems statewide. Insurance companies would like to see less deer.

Midway USA reloading is a great place for supplies. Dunns carries some great reloading equipment as well as Cabelas and BASS Pro to some extent. Component pricing has been increasing the last few years and there have been shortages in some material due to war and hoarding for the coming 4 years of a Liberal Democrat leadership. What are you wanting to load for? Handguns or Rifles? MIDWAY USA LINK

A book is good but someone that can teach you is invaluable. I learned from my uncle when I was a kid. It is definitely a method and procedure type of hobby. To insure quality and safe ammo, you have to go thru alot of steps. Once you get setup with all of the necessities, you can make custom ammo that far exceeds the factory stuff. Like fly tying, there are different levels of reloading. Mass production, precision ammo, or just plinking, you can make it suit your needs. It is a fun hobby.

It is catch and release till Feb 1, then catch and take out. I usually take kids in Feb and have a little fun with the power bait. It is a pure mudhole of nasty green water. Visibility is less than zero. Probably 12 ft deep or deeper in most places.

I fished the local lake tonight after work here in Jackson, Mo. I tried several patterns, woolies, bead head woolies, bead head nymphs. The water is nasty and green and a pretty stiff wind was blowing. Several fish turned and broke the top of the water. I did not even get a bite. Of course, with the time change, I only was able to fish for 45 minutes. I have done this now about 6 times and have never had more than 3 fish in a trip in the past few years. What does everyone else do at the other lakes to get them to bite? I guess I could go to the spinning gear.

Just had to ramble on to see my post counter hit 1000 tonight. I am not going to watch any news till in the morning so I can get at least one good night's sleep before the next 4 years, 79 days pass........

They have stocked the lake here in Jackson, Mo. Fishing has been pretty good. I am going to hit it in the afternoon tomorrow if the wind is not kicking up too hi.

Leaves are fun when fishing for trout, use a terrestrial or caddis, target a leaf and then "hop" it off for a natural presentation. This time of year, alot of trout are looking up for a meal. Hoppers, beetles, ants, and big caddis are meals to fatten up with for the winter.

Last spring while I sit thru the Hunters Education Program with my 12 year old daughter so we can hunt together, the Agent hosting one part of the show got off on Landowners. Seems like the county of his jurisdiction had over 1200 landowner permits that he could not verify that the permitee was listed on any deeds for any land in the county that was applied for. 1200 x $17 = $20,400 in one county. It was obviously happening state wide and may have been getting worse with the telecheck system. I kinda figured that something was coming down the pipes back then. The original system required a landowner to apply from a form mailed in each summer and I think had to be completed by August. As a farmer, based on amount of land owned, we would get x amount of bonus any-deer tags to thin the herd. There was even a tag for crop damage that a landowner could distribute to any hunter to add to his quota. Then everything went to the computer system, you walk in to the local permit vendor, tell them you are a landowner, and the machine spit out your tags. There was no accountability. I am sure the system was abused. Part of the new system is a registry again where landowners will have to provide proof of ownership of the land they are applying for. I don't feel that there is any problem with that. The amount of land should be dropped. Current system of 5 acres has been abused, and it may have been compounded by the telecheck system. This same agent loves the telecheck system, claims he has busted many buying a tag and telechecking an animal in the parking lot of the place where they buy the tag. Personally, I like it, I can kill a deer, call it in, and have it dressed out and in the fridge within and hour from the time I kill it. Combined with the warmer seasons the last few years, I have better quality meat. Better than dragging it into the nearest check station 20 miles away then back. MDC has had a tough year like all other entities that rely on a budget. Nobody could have figured in the increases in Fuel, Material, Energy, and other factors that have went up this year. Sales tax revenues are down all over because personal spending has been down. They have had a cut in pay this year on top of all the cost increases. I am with Al, don't bash them unless you think out the facts and see why they are doing things. They are here to help us with the things we all enjoy.

I propose a Constitutional Amendment limiting campaigning for all public offices to the month before the Primary Election thru the General Election. Nothing more. I hope everyone made it out to vote today. Its all over here in 20 minutes!

I have had problems for over 10 years out here now. Covenants of the subdivision require animals to be fenced, chained, or penned. Only in the last few weeks has there been a little animal control around here. I am still having problems with a neighbor 2 lots down that lets their weiner and jack russell roam. I have found that they like dead carcasses and they will roll in them if they find them. All summer I have kept a dead coon, possum, or fish cleanings out at the back of my lot. When they are ripe, I have noticed that they don't let the dogs roam. After a few weeks and the stink wears off, they let them out again. Cool weather does not make the duck carcasses stink as bad as the others in the summer. I really need a dead pig or cow! I have thought about a paintball gun, mark the little bastards so they will know they could have met another fate.

I have seen them locally at Sam's and farm stores like Buchheits. You can search from their website to find a local dealer near you here> Coleman .

I need some help with the new project that has come about this weekend. I was given a Heddon #8 9' Bamboo. The rod has a slight set, one guide taped on, one tip has oddball tip guide, all wraps need replaced, all guides need replaced due to rust. Any suggestions. I want to do it myself, just not sure where to order guide sets for bamboo. Everything else will stay original, would like to find the original thread but will probably modernize it also. I will probably refinish rod when finished. Reel seat original Bakelite and in decent shape. Grip is good, needs cleaning. Has original tube, sock, both tips.

Do you shoot in B&W mode or edit it with Photoshop? I usually just let Photoshop remove color and it works well.

Got out today for the season opener, hunted a private lake. Had several bunches of ducks work the lake, ended up with 2 ringnecks. Had a nice bunch of greenheads land on the lake as we were leaving after noon. Birds are moving. The woods were on fire today, peak fall colors.

I have a feeling you may be close to being on your own. Not much help with a Mac. Some of my first experiences with PC's was with Apple IIc. If it helps, the original Windows was stolen from Apple GUI so you should find some similarities. Best bet is to Google the problem on the net and see if you can find a solution.

The MP5 was property of the Police Dept his son in law worked for, he brought it home to show it off. The rub came when I called his boss, an old HS friend of mine and told him to sit down and have a little talk with him. I asked his boss not to get him in trouble, just inform him a little better about guns. Last thing I wanted was another out of work deadbeat like his father in law on the other side of me. He was a city kid, his first gun was his issue weapon and did not know any better. Dog owner had even less knowledge of firearms, ballistics, bullet travel. Like I said, his thoughts on the bullets were that they were not traveling past his property line. Main thing is, responsible pet owners take care of their pets. I felt bad for his grandkids coming home to see a pet dead. I was afraid they would go into the house before Grandparents came home and I was going intercept them if they beat them home. The son in law is actually a decent guy and a pretty good cop now.

I did not get to finish the job, it died slow and painful I am sure. I doubt if they really noticed a mess in the house, since all 4 of the dogs run down to the "pond" and play in the mud each time they come out of the house to poop. The best part was the yelping coming from inside the house after it was shot. The shooter was afraid he had missed. I assured him there was something ailing the dog. When the owner verified that there was a hole all the way thru and intestines coming out, I knew he was a goner. I did not see any new digging in his back yard, he probably just thru him in the trash. People should be more responsible with their pets. I have shot many dogs on our farm, running stock, running deer, or just simply abandoned by the owner. Its a shame, but a fact of life.

I whip out a one liner on here and look at the response it gets. I post a valid fishing report on the Current River that takes 30 to 45 minutes on dialup and hardly anyone notices. Looks like test was a spammer or got scared off by our humor! Has anyone watched Testees on FX? I liked the promo with the guy and the penis enlargement spray. When things got hot, he passed out! Hulu web, Testees Pilot.

Great Smallie. That area fishes good if you have a jet boat and can run upstream. This time of year the floaters are gone and you can do some serious fishing. I have run that section of the river to above Blue Springs and caught several nice fish. Walleye, Smallmouth, Google Eye and others are good to fish for in this area. A canoe float from above back into Van Buren would have been very productive.

How about contacting McCain/Palin for some advertising? I know they can't afford a live TV broadcast on all major networks and Black Entertainment Television, but they should be good for this website.
