  1. Since I am of an age where cougars are younger than me, I don't think I have to worry. But always appreciate the younger tail. Looks like the King or the James would be a good float, but my buddy wants to bring a boat. And it is a prop job, not a jet, so that means a lake.
  2. Dogs are a mans best friend, but I would never have one in the house. Cats seem to be better adapted to it. All men should have a little pussy (cat) in their life at some time. And they are good for dubbing in a pinch too. Sorry for your loss.
  3. Yeah. Lets set one up for next year. Since it opens on a Saturday the crowds will be lighter...... It used to be fun when I was in my 20's. You could even get a campsite back then without a reservation. I remember one opener sitting up the tent in a 3" snow and waking up the next morning to a freezing rain that had glued my zipper shut. But I had a truck load of slabs and had a nice fire that weekend the whole time. I think there were only 3k people for that one. We drove in the night before and slept in the truck at Tan Vat till about 3am and went to the lodge when it opened. Bought the tag and waded out to shoulder up to the herd. By the time the horn blowed, they were 2 deep behind me and my red ball waders were freezing me. But I caught some fish.
  4. Don't they have a camera installed on the river. If not, ask Oneshot.
  5. Thanks. I am thinking if we go that far in a boat we may end up on the ramp at Taney and try for some trout. But I may humor him and go smallie hunting instead.
  6. Nice. How many squirrel brains did you have to consume in one setting to get that one?
  7. Maybe we will give it a spin then. Although, I really don't know when I am going to pull it off before August. Seems like something going one every weekend till then.
  8. A buddy of mine called today and wanted me to start thinking about a smallmouth trip this spring or summer and he wants Table Rock. I have not really paid much attention to that part of the state, is there any good smallmouth fishing in Table Rock? Not being a big lake fisherman, I always think of streams for smallies. The only lake I have fished for smallmouth is Pickwick in TN. It was ok, but pretty boring for the most part. Few fish and a couple of nice ones in the 3 lbs range. But, I would rather float or wade a nice stream for them.
  9. One of the guys at work said I looked like a big marshmellow.
  10. When wade fishing, I normally do that alone. If there is someone else, we never fish the same hole together, so essentially we are alone. In a boat or floating I tend to pair up with someone. In a boat, it just seems to work better with 2. Floating in kayaks allows one to go down one side of the river and the other cover the opposite side. The better half does not fish. But the kids do. With them, I have to stay close.
  11. More boxes of bee goodies arrived today. One from a supplier was full of foundation, hive tool, and bee feeders. The other was my new bee jacket and veil. I had been using my bug head net from my Alaska adventures and a bug out camo hunting jacket. I am now in style and ready for the full fledge apiary experience I am about to embark on.
  12. Wow, several months later, he is sentenced to 38 years. The Norway killer that the Sandy Hook turd worshiped only received 22 years for 77 murders that everyone saw him do. Look at the face on the pic, I think he is proud to be from Illinois. http://news.yahoo.com/drew-peterson-sentenced-38-years-murder-214735862.html
  13. Maybe this is why I tend to forget. Winter is back with fury today.
  14. I think they are heading north. I was at Mingo last Friday. They finally got the water to flood the refuge with the rains of the last month. Shovelers were everywhere. They are an early south fliers following the teal normally. Lots of mallard and few pintails. Main pool on lake at Duck Creek was bluebills and a mess of snows rafted in the middle.
  15. 1/2 inch of ice and sleet here. Building up on trees and power lines since 3. Some power out in town. It will be slick and nasty in morning.
  16. Nice job. The trouble with making your own poppers is the time invested. It kinda makes you sad to look at that little masterpiece stuck up in a tree limb just out of reach.
  17. Do you have to use their screws with the pocket system or will any screw work? I was thinking about using the system to join bee boxes, but I like a good strong exterior screw for them.
  18. I was thinking he should just check out a shocking rig, call MDC for the permit, and go over to the Gasconade. Gar get pretty sluggish in cold weather. Hard to get them any other way this time of year.
  19. I run across this company on a beekeeping web tonight and found some interesting products. The 2 I am interested in are the circular saw jig that allows you to set it and follow a straight edge. That would elimate my rigging when I need to cut something larger than my table saw table. And the other is the box joiner system that eliminates rabbets or dado's. Anyone one here use any of their products? Do they work or is it hype? http://www.kregtool.com/prodlist.html
  20. And I did not get my lettuce in the ground.. I walked into a Farm and Home store today and noticed seed potatoes and it hit me. I am slackin this year. I still have not pulled the mater stakes from last year. Normally on or around Valentines Day, lettuce, radishes, and other cold crops hit the dirt. But not this year, all of my areas are just like I left them last fall. I have been busy building up wooden wares for the apiary. I have 3 complete new hives built, 3 5 frame nuc boxes built, and 2 swarm traps. I spent Sat making up frames. I cut up 5 dozen top bars for the frames and ripped some lumber down for the sides and bottom bars. New cedar boards are coming next week and I can build some more hives. The apiary may get larger than I first anticipated. Instead of making honey this year, I am going to concentrate on making bees. I plan on splitting my hives and hope to have 5 or more by the end of the summer. I am also on a swarm list with the local pest control company, who knows what I will pick up there. And I made another contact this week for possibly 5 hives on another property this summer. As of now, the one hive is making it thru the winter and 2 more small hives are on order for the end of March. Foundation, feeders, and a new bee jacket is rolling in this week UPS. I may not get much fishing done this year either. I guess I will have to put my glass on my raised beds this weekend to dry them out some. I need to clean up the main garden also. Maybe spread a little lime.
  21. Its an amazing piece of engineering, but I never took a shine to one. I know of a few that has them and like them. I tied a few on them at a fly tying get together one time and did not really care for it. I have used a Renzetti Traveller since back in the early 90's. I love the rotary feature for some flies and the ability to flip the fly over and see if I tied it the same all the way around. My latest Renzetti is the cam jaw version. It has a screw to lock the rotary down to keep it from turning if you don't need the rotary. Before that it was a Thompson A vice. I have tied on a Regal Rotary. I like the ability to mount a hook fast but I found the head gets in the way when tying.
  22. I love the Crawfish Etoufee and Crawfish Stir Fry at Broussards in Cape Girardeau. I wish the weather was a little better, been wanting to set my traps out and catch some. The want a mint now days for crawfish meat at the store.
  23. Must be a SW Mo thing. I have never heard of him either.
  24. It is a lake you have to know real well to fish effectly. Since it is open, small winds kick it up pretty bad. Lots of stumps and fallen cypress, moss and other things to hang up on. But it has excellent topwater bass late in the season.
  25. Under Feinsteins Ban, you would be. Both of you would have to go thru a background check system for a private, face to face sale.
