  1. Well Laker, I just buy a trout stamp anyway. Always have. I have not possessed a trout in MO streams all year. But the MDC Fisheries division relies on the income from the stamp to keep up production. There are streams like the Current River, 11 pt, Little Piney, just to name a few, where the Smallies and other game fish overlap the Trout areas. There are people that fish the streams without ever targeting a trout. When they did away with the physical stamp, I had second thoughts about even buying one, but I did anyway. The physical stamps were a part of the heritage of the trout program like duck stamps are to waterfowl hunters. Competitions for the artwork. Selling of the prints. And the additional sales of stamps to persons that collect the stamps. But now all we have is another line on our license. As long as you have pictures, witnesses, and measurements you can replicate your trophy without killing the fish and have it qualify for IFGA records I believe. If in the off chance you catch a State record book trout, then it will have to die in order for you to get your moment of fame. It will have to be weighed on a Certified Scales.
  2. Since I have only been to Taney once, it may have changed. I know Ark changed it on most streams because the trout hatcheries were losing out on revenue from trout stamp sales due to the trend in Catch and Release. The Ozark Streams in MO I normally fish do not require a Trout Stamp unless you intend to possess.
  3. Hope you let it go unharmed. They are trying to figure out what is killing them off, they suspect the Brown Trout. I know they are on the threatened or endangered species list in both Ark and Mo. They taste worse than a Spotted Owl so it is best to just throw them back.
  4. If the Agent misunderstands the law, then a lawyer or a judge will decide. An agent may actually be writing a ticket for some other infraction than what you think they are. If you are fishing in an area where there are multiple species present, like all of the streams in MO, then you can fish after you keep a limit of one certain species. There is no way you can Target one species of fish when there are multiples present, so if you accidentally catch a fish which you possess a limit of and release it, unharmed, there is no law broken. If you cull one off a stringer and replace it with one caught, you violate a law. In trout parks, the only species you are allowed to target is the trout. The above will not apply. Missouri laws allow you to fish a stream containing trout and catch and release them all day long with out a trout stamp. The trout stamp is for possession only. Some Arkansas streams require a Trout Stamp to even fish them, regardless if you are targeting trout, smallies, largemouth, or bream.
  5. Other measures are in the pipes from the anti-gun nuts are rounds that Expire in X amount of time and a 500% tax on ammo. Ammo is fast approaching the point of too expensive. 2 years ago I picked up 50 rounds of 45 acp practice loads for about $12 a box of 50. Today, a box runs $21. Metals have went down again, so component costs should be going down. Hazmat charges for shipping powder is about what the pound of powder costs.
  6. I believe in streams and lakes it is ok to continue fishing after taking a limit of trout or bass. If you catch a limit of one fish species and there are other species that you may possess a legal limit of, you can keep fishing. Trout parks, you reach possession limit, you have to stop.
  7. Bonus Fish- Reeling one in that has someone else's lure in it also. Sneaky Pete- Guy who keeps dipping something out of his pocket in the Flys only Area. Ranger Rick- Game warden. Flying Fish- Aerobatic fish that leaps as you reel it in.
  8. Also, probably using a gun and ammo he stole from a law abiding citizen in the process.
  9. Spectators- Non fishing persons who go by and ask "Catching Any?". Guide- Person that responds to a "Spectator" with a full fishing report. Liar- Person that responds to "Spectator" question while trying to land a fish with a "Nope" Canoe Butt- Sore butt following a long float trip. Swamp butt- When the sweats soaks your underwear on a hot summer day. Butt Flu- Condition that occurs after the morning White Castles go thru the digestive system.
  10. Red bellies- Longear sunfish Heads up!- Hot chick going by. Trolling- What those guys are doing that are "backed in" on the lot at Taney. Clusterf@#%- Any tangle of line that involves the reel and the rod and prevents fishing for at least 5 minutes. Seedticks- Small redbellies that barely can get the lure in their mouth.
  11. Yak- What my passengers do after the curves on the way to the trout stream. Goony Bird- Heron Stomper- Guy who feels like he has to wade thru the middle of the hole just because he is wearing waders. Spectators- Guys that feel the need to stand on the high bank on the other side of the stream where you are fishing. Fart mud- Soft bottom with methane buildup that bubbles up around you. Dance's Eel- When a crankbait tangles the line in a hook and spins on the top while you retrieve it. Herbie-No-Shoulders- Snake Wet Fly- What a Dry fly turns into when you catch a fish on it. Black Duck- Crow
  12. Beanbags are for a special gun, not a standard shotgun. You can buy non lethal loads. You can buy rubber bullets that are powered by a primer alone for indoor practice in handguns and shotshells with plastic or rubber pellets for animal control. If you are going to shoot a human that is giving you a reason for a justifiable shooting, you had better use a lethal method or you will just make him mad and end up causing yourself more grief. Pulling a firearm on a person and pointing it at them means you are willing to kill them and you are making that decision to do so. You should not ever have to use a firearm to scare someone off or wound them, you shoot to kill and make sure you are doing so for a justifiable reason, IE, they intend to do you or your family grave harm. Cops use tasers, bean bags, and pepper spray to control someone without getting hurt themselves while performing their everyday job of dealing with jerks. They used to use nightsticks, but they are not politically correct any longer.
  13. The main thing is more money out of my pocket for something I love doing. . More big brother, more stupid laws that they don't need, more taxes, more regulations, and more wasted time. There are plenty of laws and regulations to cover any crime committed in this day and time. People will kill people, it has happened since the beginning of time and it was done with a rock. Do we serial number rocks? They will keep trying to get it passed, they will sneak it in on something, probably on a bill prohibiting the tossing of beads at a girl on the river......
  14. Hold on while I go destroy all of my ammo and prepare.............................................................. This was really going to affect handloaders, but I think it died in MO legislature a horrible death. Not that it will not come up again.
  15. I would like to see the Corps of Engineers to divert it 2 hours closer to me so I can spend more time on it. The lack of Electric Campsites with shower/bathroom facilities has hampered most of my family vacations there, the women need those for camping. I can go without them.
  16. It was a little cold for the french fry eating ground hog Sunday. I think our waitress was in her late 40's so I don't think it was her. She has worked there for a while. Great food, we usually drive in for breakfast when we stay at Riverside each trip. The guy's at Bayou just cleaned their fish and put them in their car and went downstream to the point to fish some more. The ramp had alot of carcasses piled up at it. We did see a feral hog on the way down to Bayou where the gravel makes the last fork before the turnoff to the access. It was eating acorns out of the road ditch and we pushed it down the road a ways with the bumper.
  17. They have been letting loose some of the brood stock this year and I have caught some nice ones also. You were parked on the other side of the red 4x4 from us, we left about 3. Glad you had a good trip.
  18. Years ago when we used to float in the 17' Alum canoes all day, my friend and I thought that the adult diaper was a good solution to the problem of having to get out all of the time and the secondary relief of the dreaded condition of "canoe butt". We figured the padding would make us more comfy during the float. Then we figured we would be waterlogged the first time we got out to wade fish and go waist deep. As old age fast approaches, I assume one of us will end up testing it eventually.....
  19. Pontoons are nice, at one time I thought they may be the perfect craft. I purchased an ODC 816 by Creek Co. It works great on water with good currents and rivers that are wide. They are comfy and stable, easy to get in and out of, you can pack some gear on it, and you can anchor it without problems. Downsides were, pumping it up and putting it together, rowing thru still water, snagging on every buckle, hook, foot platform, etc when playing a fish, being wet all of the time, and they un-nerving possibility of puncturing a float during the float. I was never comfortable floating alone for fear that I was going to pop a gasket and have to walk in to the ramp. I eliminated all of this with the kayaks. I have never tried a solo canoe, it would probably work as well as a kayak. I just love my yaks. The Nucanoe looks pretty good, seems like a hybrid between a canoe and a yak. Any one have any experience with them? I am looking to replace my main yak this summer, I have just about wore it out, hull is getting pretty roughed up and has been patched once.
  20. The SIG's are top of the line, one of these days I will own a P220 also. You can't beat a SIG for quality and accuracy. I missed out on one at the last gun show, slightly used with 4 mags and box for $625. I have never experienced a KABOOM, just duds and squib loads. Lucky you still have all of your fingers BnB. The steel in the lower part of the gun probably helped with that problem. If you had been shooting any polymer frame pistol like the Glock, M&P, Kahr, or even the new SIG P250 series it may have been different.
  21. Which model of the Glock did you shoot? I have a model 21 Glock full size and it shoots pretty good. It is a little large for my hands and the split trigger made my trigger finger numb after a few 14 round clips in cold weather. I then purchased a S&W M&P 4.5 inch model and loved it. This summer when they came out with the 45 compact, I bought one of them too. I also own a 1911 and a S&W 4516 and they shoot well too. I have owned several 1911's in the past by Colt, AMT, Springfield, and others. The 1911's are a little finicky when it comes to ammo and cleaning. But I like the S&W M&P 45c the best, shoots good, lightweight enough for everyday carry, interchangeable grip inserts to fit my hands, easily controlled to get back on target for followup shots, field strips easy, and has fine Novak sights. www.mp-pistol.com is a great site for the M&P products. I am jdmidwest there also.
  22. Somebody fished a "keeper" out of the port a potty.
  23. Eleven Point River has to be the best. Wild and beautiful. Hard fighting trout. Plenty of room to let them grow big.
  24. If there were a miracle liquid like fix a flat, it would stop up the orifices of most gas systems. If you can smell it under the house, I think you can eliminate the tank to the house!
