MapQuest Hoses Branson Tourists

I think Hummer makes one that can!!! -
As far as I know, there are no fees or licenses to be a guide in MO, but there are in Ark. In the last few years, Mo. Dept. of Conservation made a rule against guiding for money on MDC lands. Technically, a lawyer could make a case if you access from a MDC rivers access on a paid guided trip I suppose. I do know the NPS requires float camps to register and pay a usage fee per person on the Scenic Riverways and they are required to keep records of it. Guiding for hire in a put and take area where trout is stocked by the MDC could also be questionable. Basically, the MDC is managing the river. I am not quite sure why the MDC started posting the guided hunt rule or when it was passed. The first time I saw it was at 10 mile pond while duck hunting. I assumed it had something to do with the reservation system or limited amount of hunting spots and people trying to get them. But I really could not figure out how the system could be manipulated or abused to benefit a guide.

I am sure it is a blowout on the upper end also. The snags and gradient on the upper river would make it pretty technical this weekend also. Fishing would not be very good either. This weekend is for lakes and ponds....

Amazing, 68 degree water in April, I have been there at low water in August and it was nut cold. I think they should check for gig marks or gunshot wounds. Maybe it caught a glimpse of one of the local "beached whales" sunnin to get a tan, got blinded, ran into a stump, and passed away from the experience. Was it whirling when it died? Maybe someone out west brought the dreaded disease here.

Bingo Brian, the so called shortages and scares have only one purpose, more profit for the oil companies which are mostly owned by overseas entities. They have not done a thing to improve the situation, why would they. They can blame it on something else and make a killing off of it. The more they make in US the more they have for their own companies. BP (British Petro), Shell are owned by the Dutch and English. Citgo was by Chavez in Venezuela. Exxon, who knows, probably us. Price per barrel of oil is $52 or $53 today, alot lower than the $70 last year but the headlines are calling for $4 a gallon. Chavez has taken over the oil in his country, which we buy a lot of. Looks like we need to look to the south to control a dictator and find him a new job to control that market. What happened to that huge oil field they found in the Gulf last year? What is going on with ANWR? Most of the oil from Alaska goes to Japan anyway, so how does that help us?

Disney World coming to SW Missouri?
jdmidwest replied to Quillback's topic in General Angling Discussion
There was a rumor like that years ago in Poplar Bluff, MO. Large land purchase, new interchanges, so on. Disney was going to build a mid America location and this was going to be it, centrally located hub with room to grow. I think they built a waterpark instead. -
Ham Democrats in the White house??? They have Billary and Osama and the guys that have failed in the past, Carry, Edwards and Al. We could run the limp D___ Dole this time and win it. Rudy all the way.

I can see Sam's point, I have been there too. Years ago, a client of mine came into the shop that spent alot of money with me, was going to fish the upper Current. I tied him a few of my goto flies. He came back the next week and wanted a few dozen more. He dropped his fly box in the river and lost everything, so I tied him a few dozen more and others too. On and on till one Sunday I drove up and fished the area myself. I had a hard time catching anything and could see the fish turning away from the fly. On Monday, the guy came into the shop and told me how many fish he caught on Saturday in the stretch I fished on Sunday. It was alot more than I saw that trip. He wanted 3 dozen more, I tied them a little different. He guides on the White River system now, I wonder if he ever learned to tye flies?
-
I usually tye flies like you are talking about full at the bench and trim them on the stream. Tie it on and cast it once to wet it then use your nippers or fingernails to trim it into shape. Then flip it into the water and see how it looks. I have found it easier than trying to figure out how the synthetics look when dry. You will be trying for a tapered look, like a minnow. You may have to pick out some of it to make it look right also. I tye a killer streamer clouser style with a single bead and Lite Brite material this way. With hair it is a little different, you can adjust it easier when you tye it in.

$2.79 to $2.89 in SE MO. Jumped from $2.57 to $2.84 in 4 hours here last Wed. Let me see, Hurricane in the gulf, War in the middle east, that time of the year to change blends, holiday coming up, refinery shut down, Al Gores coming to Mo, or some other BS I'm sure. They have more excuses than I can remember. Main thing is we are still using it. Cut back and they raise it higher. Its getting pretty ridiculous.

Its been 20 years ago, river is smaller up there and should float good this year with all the rain. Of course there could be alot of log jams. Smallmouth and goggle eyes are great, make note of the special size limits on this stretch of the stream. Expect a full days float, get in early. Take a GPS to keep track of where you are unless you want to stay the night. Shuttle ride will be a long one, long trip around from place to place and the Cane Bluff road can be rough at times. Talk to Brian Sloss at the canoe rental in Alton for more info or wait for him to post a response here. He is a guide on the 11pt.

I agree with MCP, Google maps are better and Google Earth is great. I have always though mapquest was junk like all of the AOL products. All of the mapping softwares have their flaws. Buy a GPS unit for better directions. -
I try to stay away from Superglue, it tends to react with stuff and dull or cloud things or leave a white powder. Flexament or nail polish make good thread sealers or head cement. You need to put down a thread base and you may want to coat it with head cement and attach the eyes while it is still wet and then soak it good after you are finished. I don't know about the roughing of the hook, I would think it could weaken the hook and lead to early rusting. On my bigger flies for Alaska, I have used a loop eye salmon hook which has a good flat area behind the eye to attach the eyes to.

Just found out today that my friend and I have been invited back to Alaska this year for a great Silver Salmon trip in August on the Twenty Mile River. Our great friend has a home in Girdwood and a cabin on the Twenty Mile. Time to start tying and gearing up. We are also planning a side trip to fish for the big trout in the Susitna River creeks and a little wilderness camping with the Bears. I have always wanted a bear skin rug made from some sneak thief bear wanting to snack on my ankle while I am napping in a tent. Any thoughts or ideas on new and hot flies for the area. Last time, pink was hot with the silvers and I learned a few lessons on hook styles. I lost a few to hooks being straightened out. Trout were fine on egg patterns and some of my secret bead head nymphs. We did not spend alot of time on the spring creeks last time, but had a ball when we were. This time were are going to dedicate a few days on them.
-
Well, to further muddy the waters, how could scent be illegal? Everything has to smell like something. Thread smells like thread, a hooks smells like metal. If someone smokes, his flies smell like smoke and they will contain trace amts of whatever is on his fingers when he tyes them.
-
Don't forget to lock the receiver hitch on also. A simple padlock thru the hole in the hitch clip should work, thats what I use on my trailers. Helps to insure that it is locked on the ball good too.

Sounds like a great time, were you spinfishing or flyfishing? I think what bobber was talking about was the tendency for The Local jetboaters in the 2 Rivers area to gang up on floaters and try to swamp them in riffles and not jet boaters in general. I have experienced the same in the last few years in that area and would have hated to have been alone and undergunned. If memory serves me correct, the unpowered boat has the right of way in a shoal, least that is the way I handle it when in a jet boat. They have been down right dangerous, especially to a novice canoe operator that does not know how to turn into the wake. Last year we were bumped a couple of times by an oldtimer that was making fun of us floaters and trying to swamp our boats. He was about a paddle length away from being a floater himself. Maybe the new rules for the Current River will curb some of that activity, but from the looks of bobbers post, its getting an early start this year. Jet boats allow you to cover alot of water that could not be covered any other way. I was shocked at a local sports show this spring by a video for Gator Boats I believe. They are the all aluminum boats with an inboard motor. The videos showed them beaching the boats in crowds and other unsafe conditions to prove the ruggedness of the boat. My thoughts were how many of these dam boats will I have to watch out for this summer while paddling. At least it was deer hunter orange and could be seen.

SM, 1: Correct, we have been over this before and I was involved in the discussions. Not sure of anyones professions here, but a lawyer or an judge is not needed, a MDC department official needs to make a decision and put it in the rule book. Until then, I will not fish anything that involves soft plastic in a area that rules out soft plastic, I value my fishing license too much. 2: A scud without any other material could resemble a maggot which is a stage of the fly and technically it would be legal. 3: The jig verses fly thing is vague too, a weighted bead head nymph is a micro jig if you look at it from a different angle. 4: Define scudback... I personally use latex, saran wrap, pheasant tail, condoms, ziplock bags, krystal flash, flashabou, mylar, zylon, antron, and feathers for the carapace shell on my scuds. 5: Its better to stimulate discussion about this topic instead of talking about some idiot killing a bunch of college students. 6: Why doesn't a bunch of educated fly fishing individuals change the state rules to define the fly as it should be, not a single hook rapala or metz spinner. The whole fly thing was to reduce the mortality of the fish when we hook up with them. If MDC wanted to save a few fish, why not take the next step and impose the Barbless Rule and let the warden carry panty hose to check it out. Will our barbless flies snag a pair of small ultra sheers but not a pair of biguns extra warmth. Liten up

Instead of waiting for Quentin to answer, maybe you should forward this to the MDC website. The web manager that reviews the emails will forward the question to the correct division for review and you will get a response. Please share it with us as I am curious also. Why waste time and money on a lawyer and court time to figure it out. In my reading of the rule, they would be illegal, but have never had an official ruling. Good question... What would the jighead make a difference for, I tie the gummy minnow on a weighted hook which is basically the same thing. And if you tye the scud without any dubbing, would you catch any fish on it anyway?????

Blasted out early Thursday morning for a well needed get away from it all. Landed first at daylight near Belgrade and harvested a 22 lb. 11" bearded Tom from the National Forest near there, the first T. Nice bird, bumped him early on by driving too close, his strut marks were all over the forestry road I was on. I got out of the truck and he gobbled about 30 yds away behind a tree that had felled on the road in front of me then shut up. I knew he was there, it was just a matter of time. I had called for about 10-15 minutes then snoozed for a while, he woke me up walking in over the hill. I got his attention with a few clucks, and he just decided to catch a load of shot in the head. The new Winchester Super X2 did its job. Then off to Montauk for an overnight camp and a little of the other T. The gods were with me on this one. The river was running good and a little murky and the fishing was good. The park was good fishing with a beaded prince nymph. This morning the hatch was on and the mayflies were so thick that I tasted and smelled them all morning. They were keying in on the smaller spinners as usual, size 18 olive cdc spinner did the trick. Fished Baptist and below and nailed several nice ones with a 21" brown on a wooley being the beat of the day. Back to the house tonight for a weekend of yard chores.

Most batteries will develop a memory, ie if you put them on a charger every day. The best thing to do is to charge it when the battery needs charging. Try removing the battery from the phone for a while and put it back in, then give it a long charge. Sometimes you can reset them. I did something with mine a while back and the battery has been holding a charge fine since then, something with the way the phone measured the charge of the battery.

I think I covered it with the Frying in Hell part, pretty sure that is where he will be spending some time now. No offense to any Buddaists out there, generally a peaceful religion, unlike us fire and brimstone Christians. Glad to see the news bring out the articles on the Heroes that prevented more of the killings, it could have been alot worse. Interesting to see what info the madman sent to NBC between locations.

Probably a dab of clear nail polish like Sally Hanson Hard as Nails which I use for head cement also. If you do not have any flex coat finish laying around. Super glue could act as a solvent and react with the finish leaving a dull or white spot. Or you could just leave it alone and admire it as a battle scar.

An article stated yesterday that he had a Green Card and was a legal citizen. As long as you have that and no criminal record you can purchase the gun. He had bought the 9mm 2 months ago along with a box of ammo. It did not state where the 22 came from. They interviewed the shop owner where he bought the gun, he was upset. The gun laws would not have made a difference unless he had a prior history of mental illness. It seems like he was a loner and probably had a mental background. He could have lied about that part on his yellow sheet.

I agree with CC, if it is only in the outer layer of finish, you should be fine. If it cracked the fibers in the graphite, it will create a weak point for a future break. If you are seeing the colored part broken it may be the graphite as the rods are usually clear coated, not painted. Look at it closer under magnification to determine how bad it is.
