  1. I'll chime in on the night time bite this past week. Keep in mind, started at 8pm and fished until 11pm 3 nights this last week. Between my buddy and myself we have caught over 35 keeper largemouth, 2 over 6lb and one over 7lb and another that broke a rod as she headed for deeper water. The key has been shakey head senko, baby brush hog and regular brush hog. I'll post an update on last nights moonshine tourney as my buddies were fishing it. Our fish have been between 1fow and 15fow and we are fishing in the dam area. My biggest fish came last tuesday and it was a 100degree day. AGAIN, this is a night time bite vs. what bill is referring to and that is a day time bite. I will echo the topwater has been non existant this year.
  2. http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/long-pincered-crayfish http://mdc.mo.gov/conmag/2005/05/table-rock-crawdads Here are some links to the species of crawdads I am refering too. These also exist in Lake Taneycomo as my brother does well catching them down there. Good eatin'!
  3. My crawdads were from tablerock and they are the long pincered variety which is the largest strain in north america. Mdc website talks a lot about this species and it only exists in the white river chain. Keep moving your traps if you don't get at least 3 per night in your trap but sometimes only moving it as little as 10' does the trick. I prefer table rock crawdads because the water is so clean and not muddy; therefore, less muddy tasting in my opinion vs a dirty pond or river. I can catch up to 100 eaters in a week with one trap and I have a buddy who is on another part of lake who does equally as well and he used chicken bones and dog food
  4. And potential Mercury Posioning...alway beware of where your seafood comes from.
  5. Here is my dinner from the other night..hopes this motivates you!
  6. I had a great crawfish fry two weeks ago and caught about 30 in 2 nights with one trap. I put the trap (round) below a dock stall in 10-15fow and baited it with the red strips I have cut out of all the whites I have been catching...nothing like reusing mother nature
  7. Done deal Phil, thanks and see you when I get a chance--Jim
  8. Made it to capps about 2pm on saturday, very few people there, even in Jolly Mill area. I only caught suckers, but it sure was a relaxing stream, very gentle pasture and hills. Even if fishing was slow, the scenery was very nice. ON a side note, I broke another ultra light rod at about 4 inches from the tip. I was not snagged or anything, it just broke on the cast. The manufacturer is Browning, I used to buy the cheapy bass pro ultra lights but after breaking about 10 of them over the last couple years, I "splurged" and bought the Browning and in less then a month it broke. QUESTIONS: Who makes a decent 5'6" ultra light rod that actually holds up??
  9. I have been thinking about going to capps tomorrow b/c I have business in Monett, but have never been. Does anyone think I'll catch fish throwing a 3/32 olive sculpin? I dont feel like fly fishing tomorrow so I'll have my spin cast. OR, should I just skip it all together? Thanks
  10. My truck is still for sale, please pm me for pics as I can't get them loaded for some crazy reason...was asking $3900, but make an offer, Seriously, just make an offer, today might be your lucky day...did I mention I want this out of my garage so I can buy other toys!!! Jim Description: 1995 Ford F-150 4x4, Auto Tranny V8 351cu, Eddie Bauer eddition, extended cab, 124,000 miles, power seats, A/C, Heat, Cruise, etc... I have replace the following in the last 4 years of ownership: Rear-end, fuel tanks, has new tires on it, cv boots, bushings, bearings, new starter, rear frame mounts, 2 batteries, fuel pump, master cylinder, new brakes last summer. I have done a lot more and have ALL the paperwork to prove it from the mechanic, I am no handyman. Basically everying is new except the transmission and the motor...both are strong. Has minor rust on passenger side rocker panel and above rear wheel well. Other than that, pretty nice truck and was my daily driver. I recently bought another vehicle and don't need the truck.
  11. I just bought jigs from Lilleys store the other day and must say they are the BEST colors selection I have ever seen and the prices were outstanding. I know for me, all my maraboo jigs will come from Lilleys...
  12. Rod and reel can work great. I prefer using chicken liver for channel cats and small live shad for blues and flathead. I have best luck in 20-40 fow with real deep water near by. Hope that helps
  13. I fished a night tourney last friday night out of moonshine and caught nice fish on shakey head with a senko in the bushes in the back of cove, middle of cove and main lake point....they seemed to be scattered. with the heat and water dropping i'd start on points. I caught most fish from 7-9 and 11-midnight. hope this helps
  14. I already told Phil Lilley on the phone yesterday, but my brother and I caught so many whites Friday night from 6-730pm my wrist literally ached the next day. They started bustin shad over 70fow near indian point and did so for over 1 hour..average size was between 15-18inches...redfin, spook and rattletrap did the trick. I expect them to be doing this all summer as this is the 3rd time I have gotten into them between those hours, only miles apart. Good luck and good eating
  15. Yesterday morning had 5 keeper largemouth on wacky rig worm up against a point bank. Last night fished about 1.5 hours and had one keeper on a jig with a chomper trailer. This morning I had a blast catching all kinds of species that were busting shad. Spook did ok, then I picked up my redfin and caught several more. Seemed that the bite changed from in the bushes yesterday to more cruisers today. Then at 8am, I went to work...
  16. Me and another guy fished from 6-9pm last night, caugh 3 keeps and several shorts all pitchin soft plastics in the flooded trees...no real pattern other than soft plastic pitched in trees.
  17. I am all for tourney fishing, but wished it was a catch and photo thing. I HATE when guys catch a female off her nest, drag her 20 miles away for hours only to be released miles from her nest. I have personally seen this happen time and time again in May.
  18. pic on my cell was crappy b/c camera lense fogged over from the cool water vs the humid air. Shad colored sculpins were the key for me.
  19. It was my first trip to Crane Creek Sunday. My wife and I went over to the James River to fish and cool off, but the water was just a tad high for wading, so we headed to Crane. We waded the downtown portion and what an awesome little fishery that was. It was cool and shaded and I managed a 20" bow and 2 16" bows. Only there for a couple hours, but what an absolute gem of a creek. I have fished this area for two decades and am still amazed at the wonders of the Ozarks.
  20. Darrin, email me and I'll send you pics, I can not figure out how to post them. Thanks
  21. you could fish for years and not catch a 7lb'er nicely done...and GREAT guide work
  22. I cant believe how quickly the bass have moved up in the dam area...literally yesterday beds were everywhere. I didnt fish b/c time didnt allow, but scanned a whole cove and saw males making beds everywhere. I saw a LOT of bigger fish cruising the shallows and saw lots of crappie hanging around docks. The water is so clear they are easy to find. I'll fish tonight and report back later.
