  1. The only places that I think would really require a jet are when you down past Lazy K campground and near Catrock. I've never paid much attention to the water depth since I run a jet, but there might be enough of a "channel" that you can run it with a prop also. I'll try and pay better attention next time I go down that far.
  2. I'll be there. I'm trying to find a couple other poor souls to go along who have never fished an opening day before. May the Lord be with them if they do go.
  3. I think it was $3 last year. I've always just bought the season pass on the first day of trout season so I don't have to worry about paying the rest of the year when I show up.
  4. We hammered the whites and hybrids right after rifle season ended last year at the MariOsa. Ever since the new year began, it's been pretty pathetic up there for everything. I'm only about 40 minutes from there so I'll be fishing it quite a bit in the upcoming months so I'll try and let you guys know what's going on up there.
  5. Are you looking for a broomstick setup or a surf rod setup? Also how much are you willing to pay? The reason I ask is because you can find a decent snagging setup for pretty dang cheap brand new. My buddies dad's setup is a $20 Shakespeare Alpha spinning reel from Walmart and a $35 12' XH surf rod from DJ's in St. James and he has some 65 pound braided line on it. He's used it for years and has landed many paddlefish on it.
  6. Hey I think I watched you catch several fish today. My buddy and I were fishing outlet 1 most of the day and I seen a guy with spinning tackle fishing sort of like you how you just described. I was really hoping the generation would be turned off this weekend so I could have done something besides beat the outlets, but it was still fun to get away and catch a bunch of trout. Man those things come alive when they flush the hatchery outlets. It's like a bunch of piranha's when that happens.
  7. Medium diving crankbaits. Anything that looks like a shad has done well. I've had the best luck on a "glow shad" shad rap from Walmart. It's like a glowing white color with a black dot behind the eye. They really like that one. Also caught a few on white rooster tails and swim baits.
  8. Well looks like I'm bringing the boat anyways. Got a few guys who want to go gigging on either Taneycomo or Tablerock so that helps make my mind up.
  9. Has the water been shut off most of the time? I'm coming down early Sunday and fishing all day and most of the day Monday and am trying to decide whether to bring the boat or not. I'm hoping to mostly wade fish, but if the water is running then I love to get in the boat and drift. What do you guys think? It's about a 3.5 hour trip down there one way for me so I'll save quite a bit of fuel if I don't need the boat. Also, if anybody wants to meet up while down there myself a legbuster (forum name) will be down there giving the trout sore lips most of those two days. Holler if you want to meet up with us and fish.
  10. Glad you did well on the whites. I fished up there a few weeks ago for black bass and didn't do worth a darn. We loaded up and went down to Tuscumbia and found a good pocket of kentuckies that wanted to bite our crankbaits. Hybrids have been awesome at the MariOsa access which is way down river from Bagnell and about 15 minutes East down Highway 50 from Jefferson City. Last trip I caught two that were right at 7 pounds and landed a bunch.
  11. I'm planning on heading down to Taneycomo and fishing Sunday and some on Monday. I haven't decided about bringing the boat. More than likely I'll just bring the fly rod and hope the water is turned off so I do some wade fishing.
  12. Thanks for letting me know. I will check that out.
  13. Are you booked up all winter or do you have rooms open so a guy could come down and stay a night during the winter? Been thinking about coming down and would like to just stay on the water if at all possible, but probably only be able to stay for one night.

    Winter Snagging

Hey streamer. Man that sounds good to me. Let me know for sure if and when you want to do that and I'll be all for it.

    Winter Snagging

When you say throwing in to the channel do you actually mean casting or do you mean just trolling through it? We usually cast with our surf rods when we snag and usually do pretty well, but that's on a section of river that we can throw all the way across also too.

    Winter Snagging

Thanks a lot for the information. Seems everything I've read about winter snagging happens in the deep holes around Sailboat Bridge like you said. I need to finish working on the boat so I can go get some paddlefish slime on it.
  17. Where's some good area's and patterns to hook into some bills in the winter time? I've watched several videos of guided trips where they snag a bunch of spooners during the winter months. I'm getting the itch to do some snagging and don't know if I can hold off until March 15 here in Missouri.

    Bow Choice

Which Mathews are you shooting mo_bowhunter? I had a Feathermax before I bought my Drenalin. It's a 1999 or 2000 model and it's amazing how far along their bows have come. The max cam on the Feathermax just about ripped your shoulder out of socket each time you drew it, even set on 60 pounds. My Drenalin is maxed out at 70 lbs and it's still much easier to draw than the 60 pound Feathermax.

    Bow Choice

I shoot a Mathews Drenalin. This bow chose me because of it's silky smooth draw and zero hand shock on string release. It's plenty fast for shooting game out to 40 yards without much pin gap.
  20. LOL....who needs to jig it, just throw it and wait for them to grab a hold. Nice video. I might have to make a Taneycomo trip during my xmas break after seeing this. A mess of trout fried up is sounding pretty good anyhow.
  21. I'm not brave enough to start using traditional equipment for fear of something like this happening to me. Maybe once I get a few more deer under my belt, but that might take a while. Hope you get one with the long bow. That would be a heck of an accomplishment....especially if you are still hunting!
  22. That's awesome if those really are skipjacks. I've only ever heard of people getting them below Chain of Rocks and Alton Dam on the Mississippi. They are the bait most catfisherman swear by and will drive out of state just to catch to bring back to MO and use as cut bait.
  23. My first one of the season was about like the one you got. There ain't much better eating than those young deer like that. The only problem is they only make a few meals before they are gone. Congrats on the deer.
  24. Got setup in my climber near a thicket at 5pm. At 6pm I thought I heard some leaves crunching in the thicket. Next thing I knew there was an 8 pointer standing right below me almost at the base of my tree. The wind was blowing hard enough that he slipped in on me. He circled behind me and started going upwind of me so I figured he'd smell me. Well luckily he didn't and he stopped behind a big cedar to my left which allowed me to get the bow and get drawn back. He waited a few seconds and stepped forward and I gave a mouth grunt and smoked him. My Goldtip tipped with a Rage 3 blade went right through his heart and he only ran about 50 yards before piling up. We've got several bigger bucks on our game cams, but he was a lot better than any bucks I've taken so far with the bow so I am very happy with him. On the way out after I shot him, the deer were all over our food plot. There's was one dandy buck dogging a doe, two young bucks sparring, and several does and yearlings feeding. It was an awesome night to be hunting for sure. Here's a couple pictures.
  25. Looks like the water is shutting down so we will be heading up there this weekend to gig. I'm so pumped because the gigging up there is insane down river on the gravel bars. I'm trying to hold off on the hunting until the end of the month. The whole first week of November is vacation for me to try and get the big buck.
