  1. Are there any other hardcore bow hunters on here? I'm all pumped up for this Saturday when season opens up. The weather is supposed to be amazing. High of 66 and low down into the 40's. Deer should be up and moving all day long with the drop in temperature. If anybody else is going to be in the stand/blind, good luck to you.
  2. I want to replaces the guides and a bad tip on a 12' extra heavy surf rod I use for snagging. The rod guides are easy to find, but I haven been having trouble finding a size 18.0 tip size that fits on this rod. Anybody have any recommendations on where to look? I have checked Cabelas and Janns Netcraft, but couldn't find a tip of that size.
  3. Spinning Tackle: orange cheese scented trout worms green and white rubber legged jigs yellow powerbait Double D's 007 formula trout bait Secret Bait (I miss alot of fish using this bait for some reason) Fly Fishing: #14 beadhead copper john (my favorite) #10 white wooly bugger or ostrich herl bugger #14 san juan worm (colors vary from day to day) small Pink and Green globalls are also good Center Punch, I have used a 3" floating rapala when the trout kept striking my green float and caught quite a few a few times. Size wasn't any bigger than normal though. Guys use them during the C&R season and land some hefty smallies in the bend upriver from the Lacy hole.
  4. Take it easy on ol Leonard. He's a bit windy sometimes. Heck he hasn't even actually caught a trout before. If you are looking for advice on how to catch big fish, especially at night, please do not ask him. He will get you no where in a hurry. Pine squirrel you say? He doesn't even know what a squirrel is. ......(hopefully this will trick everybody else into leaving him alone come November and I come fish with him and actually catch some LUNKER BROWNS!!! )
  5. Thanks a lot guys. I will be sure and get this stuff taken care of next week. Just curious, what kind of interest rates does one normally get in a 401k or, for m?e, the 403b since I'm a public employee
  6. Just learn how to back up and restore in case you goof something up. The best way to learn how to do something is getting in there and getting your hands dirty, especially when it comes to computers. This how I've went about acquiring most of my knowledge of pc's, networking, etc.
  7. I'm 21 and want to start contributing some more of my salary towards retirement. I work for a school district right now and right now it figures up that I will get a little over $2000 a month if I stay there and retire after 30 years of service. I got a letter the other day saying they have a 403B tax sheltered annuity plan available to contribute too. Should I start putting a portion of my check into this every month or would I be better off investing in the stock market? I would like to have a big chunk of money available when I retire to go along with the pension I would also have coming. If one was to invest in the stock market, how do you go about doing this? Do you research stocks on your own and buy or get help from somebody such as an Edward Jones Investor?
  8. I'll be honest, I haven't fished it much this summer. Earlier in the summer I bought a boat and have been really into catfishing/bowfishing this summer. In previous years I would have been making a post on here about every weekend or two.
  9. Wow! That is a heck of a mess of fish.
  10. Seth

    Nice one

I love catching channels on light tackle.
  11. I don't know about all them theories and such, but I sure do like to see them jump out of the water with a 10/0 treble in their sides in the springs. I can't wait to snag some more spoonies on the Rock again next spring!!
  12. For video editing, it sounds like the MAC's are the winner. I'd say you would enjoy the switch. If it wasn't for them being better with graphics and video though, I wouldn't bother switching otherwise.
  13. That's the only thing I hate about the brown run is that it is the best when the bucks are going crazy also. I spent all last year trying to bag me a big ol buck and never even made it down there to chase browns. That's not going to happen though this year because I am taking a whole week off to do nothing but chase bucks and browns.
  14. I need to get me some rooster tails. All you have to do is put a swivel on your line and then attach the rooster tail to it and you don't have to worry about line twist.
  15. Thanks for the info. When you say beetles, do you mean beetle spins? Those crappie sure do taste good, but I'd rather feel the hard tug from a white bass on the end of my ultralight any day.
  16. Me and a buddy went up and fished the west side. We never caught any catfish using cut drum and shad, but had tons of bites just nothing big enough to hook. We were throwing small tube jigs and caught around 30 crappie and 2 nice white bass. There were about 15 crappie that were over 9" that we kept.
  17. What kind of jigs do you fish with up there? I am heading up there today to fish for some white bass, crappie, and catfish.
  18. Well me and two other guys made it up to Bagnell today and fished from 2:30 to 9:30. We landed about 40 catfish between the three of us. Most of them were blues with a few channels mixed in. The biggest was about 6 pounds. Every fish we caught today looked like a football. Everything was caught on shad. Talk to some other guys who did really good using shrimp also. The man we talked too also said that some lady caught a "hog", but we never seen it. The spoonbill were jumping everywhere today. It was pretty neat watching 20 pound spoonbill fly 2-3 feet out of the water. I went up to the lookout balcony before we started fishing to see what was swimming around near the dam. LOTS OF BIG FISH! The only problem was that every one of them was a darn asian carp, NO CATFISH! We had brought our bow fishing rigs as always, but those stupid things never did come down below the yellow line where we could shoot them. Man they were thick in there and I bet some of them would have went 30 if not 40 pounds. It's a shame a person can't bow fish over the yellow line for those carp.
  19. Yea, I can believe that. The only big fish (20 lbs+) that I have seen caught from up there were pulled out by guys fishing right next to the dam illegally. I guess they gotta move down below that line one of these days though. The talk of these huge catfish has me all pumped to go up there now. If a person wanted to anchor near the line, I would suggest trying it along the right side of the dam away from the flood gates. The water is not overly rough there. The water below the flood gates are really rough and throw some pretty good size wakes, so unless you have a barge I wouldn't suggest anchoring there. I'll be sure and go take a look of the balcony up there to see some of those catfish. I've never seen big catfish like that at Bagnell, but I have at Truman. It's an amazing sight!
  20. I'd like to know where these big catfish are. We've been up there a couple times since they started dumping all the water and haven't done all that well. The biggest fish we have caught in all the trips was a 6 or 7 pound blue. Last time we got into the channel catfish a few hundred yards below the boat ramp along the bank. They had a bunch of baby shad schooled up against the bank and busting them like white bass.
  21. I have a 12 foot extra heavy action surf rod with a big Southbend Hurricane reel spooled with 80 pound Power Pro that I use for snagging. It's great if you do alot of casting. The only thing you might like to do is to shorten the butt end of the rod a bit because it's usually a bit too long to hold comfortably. Some people might think it is too much for a boat rod, but me and two other guys use the same setup and snag at the same time. We usually troll and cast though, almost like bass fishing. Catch lots of bills that way though, especially when the trollers aren't getting anything.
  22. Sounds like my fishing trips to the Truman Tailrace. I'm always the one that doesn't catch anything.
  23. I fished for catfish Saturday night and never caught anything. Only talked to a few people that had caught anything, one guy caught a 20 pounder and some other people had one blue that was 33 pounds. I heard that the Corps were going to bring barges into get rid of all of the wood and debris from Truman as soon as the water crested.
  24. This past Saturday night, my parents and I fished the end of East Bledsoe Ferry with minnows trying to target crappie. We caught a few short crappie and my dad landed a 19" walleye. Fishing was pretty slow, but that walleye sure did make a nice little snack when we got back home.
  25. There were quite a few people crappie fishing on the side opposite from the generators in the slack water. It looked like they were bringing it quite a few crappie, mostly small ones though. I've caught a big crappie in my throw net trying to get shad every time I have been up there on the generator side where the bank cuts in a little bit. I see guys crappie fishing there all the time, but never see much catching.
