They seem to get a love/hate reaction.

Sometimes you gotta go quick. Two pack of frozen White Castles done in 60 seconds. It tasted good when I put it in my mouth. 😄

Keep your kids out of ditches! 😊

Hah! No iceberg lettuce here. Maters are about 2 inches. Calling for a freeze late in the week here.

Who doesn’t love a wedgie? The only thing better is two of them! Tiny iceberg lettuce heads at the store. Buttermilk ranch, craisins, crumbled bacon, S&P.

Rewatching this series. Dayum! Forgot how intense the combat scenes were. Similar to Saving Private Ryan with the realism, jerky camera work, etc. Just a great movie. Great book too.

Penne alla Vodka. Scimeca’s Sweet Italian Sausage browned in olive oil, then added garlic, red pepper flakes and crushed tomatoes and simmered. Added heavy cream and vodka and brought to a boil. Added cooked penne pasta and tossed. Dressed with extra virgin olive oil, parsley and grated Parmesan.

I miss you Paul!

Eat some good food! Would love to visit there sometime. The Big Guy has a second home there, but somehow I have never scored an invite.

I would think clean up is pretty involved too. I’ve tried to keep it simpler and used only water-based stuff. Like the results I get with that for color and an epoxy too coat for gloss and durability.

No planned meal tonight. Had some shrimp, grits and cheese hanging around so off I went with shrimp and grits. Sauce of butter, flour, tomato paste, blacken seasoning and cream. Quick grits with American cheese. Mix it well togedda and... Tasty, I garr-on-tee!

Thanks.

What county?

Looks delicious. Very similar to what I have done too. Not real big on Old Bay so I don't use that. But do use a good dose of thyme. Love chowder, and any mild white fish.

Headed up to Decorah, IA last weekend for a couple days prior to driving down to the Quad Cities to see Kathy's mom. Stayed at a local B&B, and when the owner asked what we had planned we said a little fishing among other things. Turns out his dad owns a farm right on a small stream that bisects the IA/MN border north of Decorah, so he gave us info on how to get there. Kathy grew up fishing but fly fishing is pretty new to her. I was determined to get her into a position to catch a wild trout. We headed up to MN Sunday morning and picked up our licenses and headed back to the stream. I tied on a small white dry to try for some splashy risers near where we parked. It was calm, glassy water and I couldn't get a taker. Kathy did get a nice photo at least: After that I tied a pheasant tail nymph to each of our tippets and we headed downstream a few hundred yards. It wasn't too long before we had a couple little brown trout, including Kathy's first wild trout and first brown trout. And...both of our first Minnesota fish. There were a couple bald eagles gliding around much of the time we were fishing. We were both watching one carrying something when he/she landed in its nest not far from where we had been fishing. It was up in an evergreen tree and we hadn't noticed it. Kinda cool. We both really enjoyed the few hours we fished, and promised the next time we're up there we'll allow more time for it.

As long as I’m yakking about our trip I’ll add this. There are two wineries we like to stop by when we’re up there. First is Winneshiek Winery near Decorah. They do a good job with hybrid grapes up in that tough climate. Their whites are really good. They also do fruit wines that are really nice. One fruit one we liked was a rhubarb wine. Another was blackberry that they ferment cold to retain a lot of the fruit flavor. Non wine drinkers would like these. Down in the Quad Cities area we like Tabor Home Winery in Baldwin. They also do a great job in a tough climate. Our hands-down favorite was a sparkling wine from a hydrid white grape with apple. Some nice reds and whites too. The guy takes things pretty seriously, but is fun and interesting to talk to also. We both got a kick out of it when Kathy’s mom said, ‘This isn’t bad...for wine,’ 🤪 I suggested he get a picture of her and make that their new slogan 😄

Yep, Decorah’s a cool town. And we’ve found the locals to be very outgoing and fun to talk to. Good, friendly, upper Midwest people. We plopped down at the bar in Pulpit Rock Brewery and I asked the lady next to me how much snow they’d had. She said, ‘Too f*****g much!’ 😄 Had some good laughs talking to her. Lots of, ‘Yah, you betcha.’ The lady working the bar grabbed my wallet, opened it up and saw my Kansas license. Turned out she grew up in Atchison where I went to school. We spent several minutes doing the good old, ‘Do you know...’ and had several matches even though we’re a generation apart. And they think about stream access completely differently than we do here. Landowners in IA have an arrangement with the state to allow access to fishermen. They build stiles for you to climb over the fences. Here’s a picture from a previous trip. Talked to two guys when we were scouting MN the first day. One told me to go ahead and fish right from his place. Said I should just keep within 50 feet of the stream. The other guy had me follow him on his 4-wheeler to a road leading to an access spot.

Read it again please. The rest is in the imagination of you horny old men 😄

Oh, I love the natives too. Naturally reproducing are the next best thing I think. And I won’t turn my nose up at a stocker, or much of anything really.
-
Oh geez. You old married farts are reading a lot into a fishing report. 😄
-
Felt just right. 😄

By the way, Minnesota stopped stocking fingerling browns in this stream several years ago, so they’re naturally reproducing now.

First priority was a wild trout for Kathy. Tried a little creek right in town where I caught a brookie last year, but the water was really roaring and the fishable spots were minimal. Really need to get up there for more time in spring or fall.
