  1. I was just gonna say that! Seriously -- an excellent post with a great perspective.
  2. Man, that sounds like fun. Maybe you'll accidentally catch a trout, throw your spinnin' pole in the water, head to BPS and load up the credit card on some new gear. Or not. I miss rotary phones too. I'm looking to pick up one off E-Bay but most of them are pretty dinged up and black.
  3. Try this one on for size Eric. Just might do the trick:
  4. THis is as close as I could get:
  5. Man, I just can't take you seriously with that avatar.
  6. Whaddya think, Cold? Wanna blow this thing up?
  7. oops. Agree -- do your research, keep your BS detector turned on.
  8. I guess I got the laughed it off from here: But, I've read a lot of what you've said here, and I think you're a reasonable guy. I just wanted to point out that oversimplification of a big issue is kinda dangerous. That chart doesn't prove a darn thing all by itself. I agree with everything you said above. We should all be open to discussion and new, quality information. Doesn't happen here much though. I quit watching cable news. Haven't watched a minute of it since April. It was a habit, I wasted a lot of time, and it didn't do a darn thing to make life better. I would argue it made life worse. It's BS, it jades you and it makes you stupid. It promotes arguing, not discussion. And that's kinda become the norm. I'm not gonna join in.
  9. But wait OF -- when I said it was an infinitely complex situation, you laughed it off. As if it was so obvious from the single graph that global warming was causing the CO2 levels to go up -- or was it the other way around? Didn't the discussion end there? Look -- when you make a two-axis graph, you can stretch or squeeze an axis to make any generally upward sloping line fit another. That is clearly what was done on that graph. If I had the data for global temperature handy, I could probably fit the DJIA to it. There surely is slight rise in temperature (1.75 degrees over 130 years on that chart), and CO2 levels are definitely up -- by a much larger percentage. But nobody is burning up or suffocating. It almost always requires a pretty major problem before humans get off their duffs and work on fixing it. That applies to conservatives, liberals, and the other 100% of the population that don't strictly fit into those categories. I think if we could get off the labeling, calm the heck down, present some hard data (without denigrating the other 'side' in the process), we could get somewhere. But skim through this thread and see how many snarky comments are thrown in. Then there are the generalizations and hyperbole. When you can rid the discussion of this nonsense, there can be some progress. Otherwise, it's just another OA clusterfrack.
  10. Yeah, I'd say it's a complex problem. Maybe I'm just over thinking it. Peace out.
  11. It's always nice when an infinitely complex problem can be summed up in a neat little graph for us simpletons!
  12. Don't go bringing common sense into this discussion! That'll just make people think a little for themselves, and we'll never get to 10 pages or the big X
  13. Wait! I'm the forum smart*ss. I was making fun of this dang forum, not calling you out. It is an interesting bit of info.
  14. Geez Jerry! Look what YOU started
  15. Just look at these majestic beauties: Almost brings tears to my eyes seeing them roaming free, like they did before the white man came and jacked it all up. It occurs to me that those collars look a lot like the Invisible Fence collars I have on my dogs. I wonder how much it would cost to get a few souped-up collars and string a wire around Peck?
  16. From the deleted scenes:
  17. why not...
  18. Here's a good way to see some elk: ness 2.1 in Rocky Mountain National Park. Loafing above treeline RMNP
  19. I'm not claiming you left any e-mails out. I asked because, to me, the initial response from the guy didn't warrant the response you gave. Of course, you've got more context than we do because you were involved with the stuff on FB stuff. I do think it's unusual that you send and reply to e-mails using two different names, but hey, do what you think is right. Sorry -- I really was just trying to understand all this. Peace out.
  20. Did you leave any e-mails out of the chain? You were pretty condescending and confrontational, given what his response was. And where does 'customer service' come into this? Sounds like a pissin' match on Facebook and you're calling out the company because they won't answer your questions. I wouldn't either given the tone of your e-mails. And are you James or Mike or both?
  21. Yeah, I tend to think they do their homework, but it's a pretty tricky business. I'm not aware of anything they've done that has turned disastrous. Of course, otters come to mind like oneshot says, but their negative effects seem to be pretty localized, mostly in ponds. And that sucks if it's your pond -- I get that. I try to do my part every fall by trying to eradicate ditch chickens from Missouri, even thought they're not hurting anybody.
  22. Yeah, you just don't go stealing a man's pig.
  23. They accosted me at Cabela's in KC once a few years back. It's a real turn-off when somebody shoves a brochure (or anything) in your hand without an introduction or asking or anything. It's no wonder those guys have such a poor reputation. I only saw them there once or I would have been tempted to complain to somebody. I've got a friend who's about as cheap as they get. So cheap, in fact, that he gave them the initial OK in hopes of getting something for nothing. They could never get a nickle outta him, but he felt like he'd been run over by a truck by the time he escaped from the back room.
  24. Well, I was ticked that I forgot to set up the DVR for this. Not so much now. I have seen a documentary on those guys -- maybe it was American Experience -- that was pretty good.
