This all has me thinking about burger joints that have been around a long time. Many have some good memories attached.
Winstead's on The Plaza in KC. Art Deco architecture that's pretty cool. Burgers, rings, shakes, sodas, The Skyscraper soda that comes in a vase and is best eaten by 2+ people. Neighbor lady used to take us there, likely to give my mom a break. An annual tradition with my kids to go down and see The Plaza lights and eat there. Expanded, contracted and only the original (1940's) location is left. Filed BK in February so it may not survive. Real estate is worth more than the franchise.
Mug's Up in Independence. Drive up only, homemade root beer that's served in frozen mugs. Good stuff, food just OK. Often a stop Friday or Saturday night while cruising back in the 70's. Nice folks.
HiBoy in Independence. Typical burger joint menu. Great onion rings. Lotsa stops there growing up.
Nu-Way in Wichita. Used to be one in KC. Loose-meat burgers, good homemade root beer too. A must-stop to the original if I'm near Wichita.
