On top makes it that much sweeter! Congrats.

Having said that above I'm begging you guys -- please no politics here. There are other threads and even a special rubber room for all that stuff.

I think he was a pretty regular guy. Soldier, farmer, failed businessman, poker player, bourbon drinker, piano player and serial cusser. Hand picked by corrupt KC political boss Tom Pendergast for a powerful county position, he pretty much did the right things which often pissed off old Tom. Even though, he got Tom's backing and was elected to the senate where he soon made a name for himself exposing wasteful government defense spending through the Truman Committee. Roosevelt selected him as VP in large part because his popularity due to that, and 3 months after inaugration he's the president -- which he didn't want. After he left office, he resumed a pretty normal life living in the house left to them by his in-laws. He turned down paid positions and speaking engagements afterward saying something like, 'It's not Harry Truman you want, it's the office of president you want, and it's not for sale.'

I grew up in Independence, MO and Harry Truman was very much a regular guy around town. My dad's first office in Independence was on the street behind the Truman home and a few houses down. Truman was a walker and encounters with him on the sidewalk were pretty common. No secret service for him until later. Mom was an early volunteer at the Truman Library and saw him regularly there. Folks were at a party once and Harry was there and played piano. Though they weren't friends there were connections and my dad somehow wrangled three autographed sets of his memoirs, one for each of us kids.

Dad was a surgeon in a MASH unit in Korea. Here’s his hat from then: He always said the look and feel of the TV show was pretty accurate. Doctors were given a pretty long rope and got way with a lot.

I know this isn’t the first time you’ve heard it, but your dad looks so much like your son who looks very much like you.

I was rooting around in the basement, cleaning a bit and organizing but also getting some stuff pulled together to do a quick bank fishing trip with one of my sons today. Came across an old Pfleuger medalist my dad handed down to me in the mid-90s when I first got into fly fishing. Got to thinking about things on this Father's Day, including some of the treasures that were handed down to me. Thought I'd get a thread started on the topic. So, show us what you've got. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, but hopefully something that has meaning for you. Here's the Medalist: The rod I'm going to use us an old, tip heavy Orvis Rocky Mountain 5-weight my dad bought for me. Haven't fished it in years until today. Here’s a picture from about 11 years ago. My 2 sons with 2 guns handed down from my dad. They’ll each get one when I go tits up. So, Happy Father's Day to all the dads. And dig it out, take a pic and share it.

That's one of the things that's cool -- it develops and changes over time.

I like the stems too. Sauté them a few minutes with the onion.

Rotisserie chicken, baked sweet tater and Swiss chard from the garden. Sautéed diced onion and the chard stems in oil. Added red pepper flakes, a little beef broth and a splash of white vinegar. Pretty tasty. Now with proper protein orientation😄

Not bitter but it’s got its own flavor. Similar to spinach. Flavor is getting stronger as the season progresses. Think I need to be more diligent about getting them off early.

I have always started it in the spring. Looked in two books and neither said anything about planting now or in the fall. But I kinda feel like you could. https://www.burpee.com/gardenadvicecenter/vegetables/swiss-chard/all-about-swiss-chard/article10025.html

Grew Swiss chard this year for the first time in several years. Couldn’t get anybody to eat it before and I quit doing it. But really enjoying it this year. It’s pretty bomb proof, produces most of the summer And very prolific. Keeps well in the fridge. Glad I added it back in. @BilletHead ever do this? Might scratch that itch for greens in the off season. More deets to come in the ‘What’s Cooking’ thread.

Yep -- they're good. They've collaborated with We Banjo 3 some who are from Galway, Ireland.

We've seen these guys a few times live in KC at Irishfest. Great music and they can really get the crowd up. Have tickets for them but they've been postponed and postponed again.

First 45 I ever bought was Listen to the Music. Still love it and the Doobies. Also love this Playing for Change version. Other stuff too

I wonder if the explosion in online shopping and home deliveries in recent years sucks up so many CDL drivers that it's more of a driver issue than a truck issue?

Having been reminded I’m on a diet, I decided on shellfish tonight. Scallops with a Newburg sauce on toast.

How many bats per dumpling? Not much meat on them. I don’t even bother with the drumstick anymore.
