    Food Trucks

I think they're a chain with trucks all around. I've had it a couple times and it was good. But we've got places that do it better, like Culver's.

    What's Cooking?

I only recently learned the term 'chili sauce'. It was West Virginia chili sauce I heard of first. One of those things where it seems to be popping up all over the place now.

    Food Trucks

Johnny's wasn't really a college bar. They've expanded to KC and have several around the metro now. Pretty good. The original closed because the neighborhood is pretty rough and homeless people were a problem. But I think they got that reopened.

    Food Trucks

We had a Der Weinerschnitzel, Arthur Treacher's and a bunch of others along Noland Road in Independence. I cruised a lot of miles on Noland Rd. In the 70s. A local joint that's still around is Hi Boy. Burgers, tenderloins, really good rings etc. if you remember the commercial where Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are eating and Andy says, 'Gimme a nuggie!' That was shot at Hi Boy.

    Food Trucks

We had the 50 cent movies at the Union in collage. They called it 50 CENT FLICKS and each week someone would slide the I on the sign over and connect it to the L, then someone would come back by and disconnect them. We didn't have food trucks in school but we would make the 20 minute drive to Lawrence (KS) for Joe's Donuts. Grab a dozen donuts and a sub sandwich. Anybody that went to KU between the 70s and early 2000s knows Joe's. The donuts were gone before we got back to Baldwin. We've got a couple food trucks that cycle through now. Off the Hook does a really good fish and chips. We've also got a Taco Via truck. Taco Via is a Johnson County institution. Basic American Mexican food. You'd kinda have to grow up with it to get it.

    What's Cooking?

I remember the first time I took my dad to White Castle. I gave him the low down before we went in but he wasn't listening. He stepped up to the counter and ordered *a* White Castle and a coke 😀

    What's Cooking?

I like 'em too. I can buy the frozen ones at the store, but they left KC many years ago. Had the family in StL many years back and we found a White Castle, I think it was in/near Ferguson. I kinda had the feeling we were being watched when we went in. We were, shall we say, unique to the area.

Garnish can't even help those😀We do love lentils here. Repeats and leftovers here. The rest of the week isn't going to be share worthy. Maybe the long weekend will bring something good.

Thanks. About 25 throw aways but I'm happy with this one. These city hummingbirds are not as social as these country ones 😀

We've got a pair of hummingbirds that just love our salvia this year. We've got several pots with salvia around our patio, and this cool morning they were really active and brave. They are hard to capture - they're so sugared up they can't sit still! But I did like this one.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Old Fashioned with Templeton Rye, ho'made brandied cherries and maple syrup instead of simple syrup. Got that idea from a friend.

    What's Cooking?

I'm putting some of this on myself. They had chopped pancetta and sliced pancetta - same company. The sliced looked meatier, but I've always gotten the chopped so that's what I did despite the clues. Dang it. I actually like the company's stuff and their story. It's La Quercia, a company in Iowa that is trying to do Italian cured meats in America on a higher level.
