  1. Don’t know if there’s a single date for all districts, but Independence teachers report Friday and kids next week. I suspect this is the last free weekend for most kids in MO.
  2. Hardly. I had them for 12+ years, so that's a pretty darn good run IMO. Had the frames replaced once because my dog got them and chewed them up a bit. They were on a strap and tucked into my shirt on the coaster, but I learned the hard way that wasn't enough. The prescription was about 2-3 behind, so I wasn't too torn up. Got a pair of Ray Bans as a gift to replace them, so that's what I'm wearing now. Updated script plus bifocal is really nice. But they won't last 12 years. Yup.
  3. Yeah, if you’re fishing LOZ, you can expect some poop in the water. 😄
  4. Blot them dry with any cloth or paper towel and you won’t scratch them. Rubbing scratches. I’m a Smith/Action Optics fan. First pair lasted at least 12 years. I’ve got pictures going back to 2004 with them on. Buy quality. Take care of it. And, when you ride the Mamba at Worlds of Fun, take their advice and secure your belongings because the punk posterior staff won’t go looking for them.

    My other two pickle posts were so well received I figgered I’d add this. Gonna try fermented pickles. Salty brine with dill, garlic, dill seed, black peppercorns, and red pepper flakes. All the stuff loaded into the crock: Stones loaded in to keep the cukes submerged: Now we wait a few weeks and see what we get.

    Well, my other pickle post was so well received I’ll share this. 5 pints of refrigerator pickles this morning. Gonna try fermented pickles with the remaining cukes.

    So Kathy said she wanted hot dogs. Can’t remember the last one I had, and it sounded pretty good, so that’s what we did. Hit the farmer’s market this morning and picked up some maters, corn, blackberries and some other stuff. Swung by Dixon’s Chili on the way— it’s an Independence thing; HST ate there and my dad loved it too. This meal was delicious! Best corn and maters I’ve had this summer. Dogs on the grill with toasted buns. Chili really tasted great on there, even though chili dogs feel out of season. There’s some disagreement on the whole pepper thing betwixt even us! Had a Kim Crawford rose with it all, and it fit pretty darn good.

    Microwave bread and butter pickles. Slice the cukes, add the stuff, 7-8 minutes, chill.

    Me too. You cooking them? 😄 Last night—4 people, 4 large (1-1/2 to 2-inch) nicely marbled strips and a potato, cheese and onion casserole, with corn on the cob too. Two steaks left over.

    Nice! Agree breasts are hard to get just right. The beer can chicken I did the other day was perfect. When I fry, I brine first. Would have brined for the beer can chicken but didn’t have time. I like wings that other people have cooked. I won’t mess with them.

    Thighs have great flavor. They’re a bit of work to get the meat off of sometimes, but they’re good eating. Like legs too. White meat can be dry and flavorless. Not tonight though...beer can chicken and it was all moist and juicy. Thyme, rosemary and paprika on the outside; Budweiser on the inside. Peas and new potatoes in a white sauce (I’m told it’s an Iowa thing😄), peaches and cream corn, maters and cottage cheese.
  21. How about pizza? Everybody loves pizza! And, what’s the avatar?
  22. Recorded a documentary on PBS recently called ‘Legacy in Stone’ about ancient points and thought of you. If you could muster up the courage to come to the suburbs, we could watch it. 😄 And, I’ll cook!!
