    What's Cooking?

Had a little mess of morels and paired it with a small filet tonight. Cast iron in a 500 degree oven. Montreal seasoning finished with a little butter. Morels in a tad of oil and butter with a little salt and pepper. Simple and delicious.
  3. I feel like there’s a joke in here somewhere. Li’l help?

    What's Cooking?

I never think of salami. I like salami. More than pepperoni. Hmmm.
  6. Save the nads for me, Clark! 😄

    What's Cooking?

    I haven’t decided what I’m having yet.
  8. Wow! OZV?? That’s a good one Meistro BilletHead!

    What's Cooking?

Ahhh, the old empty plate ruse. Looks like Spaghetti-O sauce to me 😄
  11. Yeah -- looking for a better crack filler
  12. Missed these posts -- thanks. Seems like it could work. We're still talking about poppers, right?
  13. Just do it -- what have you got to lose?! I wish I had some short kids to help me look.
  14. I'm gonna add beaver-chewed cottonwoods anywhere but in your back 40 to my list of places to look
  15. I have a confession to make, and a pledge. I was talking to Kathy about the swap down in the cave the other night, and I grabbed a fly box and said, 'Hey, look at all these different, cool and crazy flies from the last swap I was in.' Lot's of interesting and creative stuff in there. It had a few extras of my own in there that were dinged up, so I know I added those after the swap and had had the box out to fish. As I looked at the rest, I realized I never fished the other flies in there. (I think I see wrench a-comin'). I think that needs to change. So, here's my pledge: I'm gonna fish the flies from this swap -- and I'm gonna fish them BEFORE I fish my own creations. That is my pledge -- and I encourage us all to do the same. Even fish the rookie-tied woolly bugger. They don't look as good as ones tied in a third world by someone who ties 250 a day, but they'll fish.
  16. Done and done.
  17. Well, I gotta say I get a kick out of all the wisdom out there about where to find morels. Like -- on the north, east, west, or south sides of slopes. In the bottoms, or not. Under elm, apple cottonwood, cedar, sycamore, ash, oak, locust, or hickory. Living, dying or dead is best. Burned areas, or areas that have never burned. Same with flooded or not. Temperatures between the 30s and the 80s. Truth is -- they are found where you look the most. It's more about getting out and doing it than it is getting things exactly right. I think people spend too much time looking for spots or looking at trees and too little time looking down at the ground. Go to the forest, walk around and look down. ...and, all this from a guy who will probably hit the farmer's market and just buy some morels this year It's just like the fly that works best is often the fly you fish most. I also think people spend too much time fumbling with their flies or wishing they had something else instead of just fishing.
  18. Have you got a name for those bad boys? I’m trying to run an accurate fly swap here 😄
  19. I’m sure they’re all different. K&K has a great selection of fly tying stuff.
  20. Like I said in an earlier post, I met with frustration in finding materials online and at Cabelas. I walked into the local full-service fly shop and they had everything I needed. I’m a convert. I notice on their web site they don’t even have a shopping option. I guess they probably still do mail order but I don’t get a catalog anymore.
  21. Interesting report about a type of fishing I know nothing about. Thanks.

With Waffle House in the news, I realized I hadn’t been there in a while. I give you grits, cheese and ham.
