    What's Cooking?

Sister in law, who is an excellent cook, made this peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake. That thing on top is a chocolate rabbit that would have been better photographed from a different angle 🤪

  8. Yeah, I've seen their ads. Kodak has a service too. Just wondering if anyone has experience with any of them.
  9. I'm curious how you're going about digitizing the old tapes. I've got that on the list to do this year. That and a bunch of photo prints.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Buy a $50 bottle of something you know/like and spend the remaining $750 on something that lasts.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Nope. Had a get-together with a bunch of guys from school today. Back in the day we had a couple guys that were from New Mexico and when they'd come back from home they'd bring Mezcal which is a tequila relative from Oaxaca. This stuff always had a worm in the bottle and there was always the chatter about eating the worm. I honestly don't know if anyone ever did. I know I didn't. So today one of the guys brings a bottle of Mezcal he's had since school, about 45 years back. He cracked it open and we had a taste. Didn't get anywhere close to the worm.

I believe that. I can only imagine the amount of complaining they get. I know at this place they've been through several cooks. Other times we've been there have been better tho.

    What's Cooking?

On one of the float trips @Gavin @ColdWaterFshr did many years ago, nobody brought a coffee pot. One of the guys (Kip Sr., a character) tried to convince us that skillet coffee was really good. When we saw the grease slick on that coffee we passed

    What's Cooking?

Last night the missus and I were invited by MIL to have dinner with her over at the 'Senior Living Center'. 'Airline steak' with gravy, roasted asparagus, mashed potatoes and blueberry pie a la mode. I've heard the term 'airline steak' before, but didn't know what it was. Apparently it's a very tough cut of beef, cooked to well-past well-done, and cut into little pieces so it's easier to chew with dentures. The gravy was good, and a very deep brown that only comes from artificial coloring. It served as a lubricant to get the steak down my gullet. The asparagus was burnt - it was like eating twigs. The mashed potatoes were actually very good. I could have made a made a meal of them with that canned gravy. The blueberry pie was overcooked with the crust to a pretty dark brown. The upside? MIL got a little break from the routine and I scored some points with her too!

    What's Cooking?

We do a French press here too. A few years back we did a tour of a local coffee company, The Roasterie. As part of the tour they did a comparison of a pour over versus French press. Same coffee, same water, same temp, same amounts. The difference was remarkable, and it really confirmed what we like.

  22. Happy belated birfday and congrats on the upcoming retirement! Retirement is just around the corner for me too. 41 years with the bank, which hardly seems possible.

    What's Cooking?

Yeah, it's gonna hurt but it needs done. We're kind of excited to get going on it. We spend so much of our time in there, and when we have folks over we're congregating in there for the most part.
  25. Sorry to hear that Phil. They truly become part of the family and when they go it's so tough. But you've got all that time together to be thankful for.
