  1. Sa-weet! Did you get those fish into the frying pan?
  2. JD. I've been wondering about your bees. Glad to hear they're doing well. I think that's pretty dang cool. I watched a gardening show on PBS the other day and they were talking about backyard bee hives. Maybe some day.... I grow bush and pole beans. They've each got their positives and negatives. Bush throw off a nice crop all at once, and they're done pretty quick before disease can set in. I can do a fall crop with them. Pole beans give them for a couple months, and they're easier to pick. Bush beans take up a lot of space in my leetle garden, and pole beans seem to always get sick about the time the harvest is maxing out. So, I plant both. If I had to plant one, it would be Dragon Tongue. It's a bush wax bean that has excellent flavor. Green pods with purple flecks. Maybe my favorite thing out of the garden.
  3. And, that lettuce looks great! You've got that stuff growing in the sweet spot of cool temps but with protection from the early start.
  4. Ha! Nice setup, Marty. I wish I had your ambition! I could use the protection this year. I've got a couple feral cats in the 'hood that have bedeviled me every spring by using my beds as a litter box. So, I got some green wire mesh a few years ago and formed some cages to protect the little plants until they're big enough that the cats don't bother them. I also just lay a square of the stuff over the beds and the cats stay away. Well this year I kept seeing holes dug in there, and the mesh and cages weren't stopping it. But there wasn't any telltale cat doo in there. I was sitting out on the deck the other day and watched a robin hopping around plucking worms out of the beds. He was tearing up stuff pretty good, but not plucking out seeds or plants. I guess I can live with that.
  5. I can attest to the tastiness of the BilletHead sauce. If I ever get south of Belton again, I'll load up some of my sauce and make some deliveries.
  6. Kinda like the landfill a few miles from here -- every so often......
  7. dayum!
  8. Yeah, and my new company 'Nukes R Us' is facing unfair competition from the taxpayer-funded US Military. I mean, what ever happened to the Land of Opportunity?
  9. They've always wanted to get their hooks into the MDC, and bills get brought up every year. If you read the quote above and some of his other comments you'll probably agree -- he's an idgit.
  10. No kidding. He makes it sound like its just destroying companies. I guess there is this onehttp://www.terratechnologies.com/Staff_Qualifications/Flick_resume.htm Run by the guy who testified
  11. "It just appears to me that there's a conflict going on here to use taxpayer dollars to supplement a program to put private industry out of business," Munzlinger said. "That's the reason I filed the bill." He's an idgit
  12. Ha! Our generation will always struggle with spelling BEETLE correctly
  13. I know you've shared pictures and diagrams of your twin spin before, but I don't remember your ho-made cranks. Can you share a picture?
  14. I'd like to think I did my best to get my kids interested in the outdoors. That's about all I feel like I'm responsible for, although I have helped a lot of other kids -- nieces, nephews, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts over the years. I just look at it as planting a seed. They don't all sprout, and some sprout late. The only sure thing is what you'll get if you don't plant -- nada, zilch. Except weeds. And, the analogy gets jacked up at that point. Good night.

    What's Cooking?

Oh man! I wonder if they come with the bones, or do the good folks at Armour take care of that for you?

    What's Cooking?

By the way -- that's usually how I do my stews. Meat first, then follow up with the veggies. If the braising liquid needs the veggies for flavor, I'll add some in at the start and strain them out later, but the eating ones come in later. I don't want mushy vegetables. Did the stew pick up a little smoke flavor?

  19. Perfect weather the last two days for bringing stuff out. Put some more onions, leeks and peppers in the ground this weekend, I'm giving the maters a day or two more in pots--they looked a little weak. Weather looks good the next few days, won't be long. Started succesion plantings of lettuce and radish.
  20. put those girls to work! They've got a better vantagepoint at that age anyway!

    What's Cooking?

I've seen some good looking monkey bread before, but that looks phenominal!!!
  23. Good going, Ollie. Looks like a good fit for what you were looking for. I think your height, weight and personal comfort will dictate what seat height and placement works best. For me, I just adapt.
  24. Found 10 today, 5 of them at my sure-thing spot.
