  1. Yeah, what's fast gonna do for you on an Ozark river? Get you to the take out sooner? Yippee! I'm done and can go back to work! Sure, there is always some water that I'd like to pass through to get to better stuff. But if that was a big problem, I probably picked the wrong stretch to fish, not the wrong canoe.
  2. I already bought a Vagabond, but that Wilderness sure looks like a good boat too. Probably 75% of my fishing is on day trips to local small lakes, ponds and pits so I don't need too much capacity or seaworthiness these days.
  3. Sure! Will you be close?
  4. Three seats -- you can paddle it solo from the center seat, PLUS, you can paddle it tandem form the front/back seats.
  5. I've used a Wenonah Solo Plus for years, primarily as a solo, but also as a tandem a few times. When my babies were little, I'd load one in the front and one in the back. I'm coming clean -- that's my rig for sale on Craigslist with a new lower price.

    What's Cooking?

    Sounds good to me!
  7. They've been closed up for a while, since before the owner died. Could be the web site is out of date.
  8. Nice job on the parenting, wrench. You reap what you sow, bro
  9. Nice, nice, nice Grumpy!!!! Give more, take less, expect nothing, and you're heading towards what's really important in life..
  10. Ha! Last trade was at $850, but this ain't exactly a liquid market

    It's about the food, pre-vert!

    What's Cooking?

OK -- the previous picture was a joke. ness don't prematurely decapitate asparagus, he gets store-bought! Or, skimp on the sauce! Or, leave off the cayenne!

    What's Cooking?

Alright, I don't want to make a culinary move without photographing it and forcing it upon OAF. Here's the fish with asparagus and Hollandaise sauce. Probably should have let the asparagus grow up, but leftover Hollandaise doesn't last forever, right?

    What's Cooking?

I had an errand to run in Overland Park today, and made a pretty big detour to Werner's in Mission, KS to pick up some franks based on your post. A relly cool, old-school meat shop. I'll report back. http://wernerswurst.com
  15. That's what my situation usually looks like -- too much, too soon. I usually start making phone calls around now to lay off the surplus. There are some folks that won't get what they're used to this year. I suppose I ought to warn them.

    What's Cooking?

Yeah, ness' world got turned upside down in early December. I didn't follow up, or do anything in the way of duck hunting, or really much of anything else the last few months.
  17. Well, glad you got it. I wasn't fishing for a thank you on here, I just wanted the family to know it was from a guy who heard the story on OAF, and that there are some good folks here. I kinda shy away from saying 'I appreciate your service', because it's said so often that it's almost like 'have a nice day'. But I really do appreciate that these guys and gals take a big risk to make slugs like me safe. Now more than ever with cops being targets and depicted as the bad guys so often. I hope my little bit helps
  18. They're kinda out of business. They closed up their shop in Lawrence a few years back, and the one in KC more recently. I heard the owner was just ready to retire so he shut it down and was selling off the remaining inventory. Apparently he recently passed away unexpectedly, but from their website it looks like they're still sellong what remains. If you come up to KC during the week to see them, let me know. I work fairly close to their Peculiar shop. If you make it between 1100 and 100 I'd try to hook up for lunch. Which boats of theirs did you like?
  19. Hey Phil: can we get a 'partially like' button? I just can't pull the trigger sometimes. Smalliebigs post above is a good example

    What's Cooking?

You know what? You ever find yourself in KC on the weekend, and I'll do that and give you a bottle of my BBQ sauce.
  21. Most of the 'action' in my 2015 garden in still indoors: Maters, peppers, Alpine strawberries. Maters, herbs, strawberries. It's all really far behind. I guess that happens when you start 4-6 weeks late. I just couldn't get very good germination on my onion seeds, so I went out and bought plants. That's them in the back and there's some garlic in front of it. Carrot seeds under the cardboard. I read that covering carrot seeds will keep moisture in, insulate a a little, and help those notoriously slow carrot seeds along. I'll let you know how that goes. My cold frame got some new windows: Red bud bud status:
  22. That's a great setup you've got there, BH. You can really get things going sooner and keep them going later with that arrangement.
  23. C'mon, you can do it!!!

    What's Cooking?

I've been off work for a couple days, and felt like getting stupid for breakfast. Decided to do Eggs Benedict again, because the last version I did with Knorr's Hollandaise sauce left me wanting the real thing. Hollandaise used to be a pain to make, until somebody figured out how to do it in a blender. Slowly melt a stick of butter on low heat. Start to poach a couple eggs and brown an English muffin. Three egg yolks, a shot of lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of cayenne go in the blender. Get them mixed up real good, then go finish up the eggs. Load ham and poached eggs onto English muffin. Head back to the blender, turn it on and slowly drizzle the melted butter in and blend until its creamy. Pour that over your stuff and eat. Pros: Tastes great. Cons: 3 egg yolks plus 2 eggs, ΒΌ pound of butter, ham and English muffin make for a few more calories than, say, BilletHead's granola. Two pans and a blender to clean. But, hey, you only live once. Enough sauce left over to put on some fish and asparagus tonight.
  25. Good job, Ron. You're a real champion of keyboard conservation.
