  1. Well, you gotta watch the video, Wayne.
  2. Very sweet! That water looks phenomenal! I've never been fishing up there but I've wondered. How was it? We did that trip when I was a kid, but we didn't fish. I saw on FB you did the Corn Palace. Classic! You had to feel a little Griswold, no?
  3. ...and the advance team blows it http://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/president-barack-obama-dines-with-kc-area-residents-prepares-for-wednesday-speech
  4. Dern, Blazerman. Good on you for helping out. That web site is sure an eye opener. It's crazy out there. Take a look at this story. http://www.news-leader.com/story/news/local/ozarks/2014/07/27/man-killed-lake-ozarks-second-crash/13237339/
  5. Can I come hang out with you, please?
  6. Ha, I see I'm not alone. I do like to camp, but I'm getting to where it's more trouble than it's worth especially now that the kids are grown. If I do, it's a pretty scaled down affair these days. There's a lot to be said for having a bed, shower, fridge and microwave. Oh, and a toilet, continental breakfast, internet, ice machine, TV.
  7. I don't disagree with your point about the flaw in assuming everywhere is colder, but you are just stirring the pot here, bro. Moving it to the conservation forum doesn't fix that. Not making purposely provocative statements does though. I would think we could talk about cool weather because it's, well...cool out there. My daughter was near Steamboat a couple weeks back, and it was hotter there than here at times -- even though they're a few thousand feet higher. What's it like in Denver now? 56 degrees this morning, mid-70s now.
  8. Here Not sure how much, if any, of this is new info. Interesting to see the people's perspectives though.
  9. It used to be a hopping place when they were in the River Market area. I bought my canoe there. I stopped by their Belton location on a weekday a couple years ago and the guy didn't even have the lights on in the store until I went in.
  10. Presto 16 Qt at Amazon
  11. I dunno -- just saw what they said on the website.
  12. That was probably my evil twin.
  13. I've been here in KC all weekend!
  14. Well...not closed closed -- just a significantly reduce open schedule.
  15. Hmmmm. Didn't realize KC paddler closed. They were a lot more accessible when they were downtown. I guess we're stuck with the big box guys.

    Wings Anyone?

Same with flank steak -- they used to give it away, now it's primo priced.
  17. Fished in! Congrats siusaluki

    Wings Anyone?

Looks good -- both of them.
  19. Very nice rainbow.
  20. ...and f-bombs in a campsite with kids and Mennonites. Nice.
  21. I dunno what happened, tippet7. I do tend to pull my tomatoes before they're ripe -- when they start to turn color -- and let them ripen inside where they're safe and sound.
  22. Wayne -- I was up far enough I think. Cooling it more would have helped with the handling -- I was hurrying to get everything ready. This trick's a keeper. Re: the garden. Every year is different, and this year has been no exception. I've never had this much tomato disease this early on. I'll probably lose all the heirlooms over the next few weeks. We are getting pretty good production from the two hybrid Celebrity tomatoes. Cherokee Purple have thrown off a few good ones, but they're on life support. The other 3-4 varieties may be a total bust. Got a pretty decent crop of shallots, onions and garlic. Beets were good -- I wish I'd planted twice as much. Pickled all those and they were outstanding (still sipping on the remaining pickling juice). I pulled cabbage and collards weeks ago -- bugs absolutely destroyed them. Bush beans got pulled last week -- decent harvest on one variety, nothing on the other, rampant disease. Pole beans probably ought to have the plug pulled -- I'll gather the family, weigh our options, and make a decision soon. Peppers are finally picking up -- but I won't see much from them for a while. I've got about a half dozen banana peppers in the bag and a few more on the way. Anaheims are taking their sweet time -- none are pickable yet. So -- crummy 2014 spring garden. Turning the focus to the fall garden now.
  23. I found an etoufee recipe I really like on allrecipes.com. Tweaked it some to our liking, and my wife and I both think it trumps the gumbo I've been making -- and with a lot less time and effort. But hey -- this thread's about gumbo
  24. Can you tap somebody as a mentor? Probably the single most effective way to learn it.
  25. Who's finger? Do I need to call 911?
