  1. Doobies were excellent! Steve Winwood opened, excellent too. More over in the other thread.
  2. Pretty amazing stuff for a bunch of guys in their mid-70’s!!
  3. Saw Steve Winwood and the Doobie Brothers last night in StL. Great show! I kinda forgot how much great material Winwood has. My favorite of his set was Back in the Highlife Again. I’ve always been a fan of mandolin too. Then the Doobies. Michael McDonald is with them on this tour. Good mix of the pre-and-post McDonald music Guess the song?
  4. So, we left Gioia’s and went over to Zia’s for a drink. For those that haven’t been to the Hill the streets are one way and lined with parked cars on both sides. When it was time to leave I checked my rear view and saw a car back a ways with its flashers on blocking the road. So I pulled out. Apparently a guy on a little motorcycle had squeezed through… So less than an hour in the Loo and I’ve got a guy about three feet away from the missus’ face screaming and calling me a mf-er. So I shot him. 😝
  5. Made it to Gioia’s. I got the the hot salami with mozz, giardinara, on toasted white. The missus got a club on garlic cheese bread with horsey mayo. Both were absolutely delicious! Thanks for the guidance!

    What's Cooking?

Sounds good, but not in this scenario with a bunch of people. It's a little tricky to get the skins right, and I'm not going to make a bunch of extras to allow for screw ups. Then, over at the pizza oven, it's fairly tricky. If you tear one or slide the ingredients off it messes up the 900 degree stone, possibly to the extent that I'd have to shut the operation down. We've done it with just a couple folks over though.
  7. I'll never forget my first experience with The Hill. We were doing a long weekend trip with young kids to StL to see the zoo, Magic House, Arch etc. A friend of mine grew up in the area and he recommended Zia's. We were in the minivan heading down Kings Highway (this was pre phone/GPS). I turned off KH and quickly realized I had gone the wrong way, so I turned onto the first street to get going back. There was some crazy guy in a car going round and round in circles in the street. He eventually stopped, so I proceeded forward and he turned toward the side of the minivan. I punched it and got out of there but we were shook. We gave up on the Hill and ate at Bob Evans next to the hotel.
  8. Just got off the phone with @Gavin. He's recommending Gioia's too. I think that's what we'll do, and probably will do the Hill rather than the 'burbs. We've got most of the day. Now I need to figure out if we'll eat dinner before the 7:30 show too.
  9. Meetings where we all get together and end up with a lunch of some kind are almost a thing of the past. With Zoom and Teams we just don't do 'em that way much anymore. We used to get Panera a lot, which was decent.
  10. My mom was from PA and up there they called them hoagies. Wash it down with a birch beer.
  11. I think that was one of the ones mentioned earlier @Gavin @ColdWaterFshr @snagged in outlet 3
  12. I passed on a chance to see them in KC a couple years back and wished I hadn't. They're not going to be around forever. Also passed on McCartney in Omaha seven years back. I wish I"d popped for that one too.
  13. We're heading over to StL tomorrow morning for the weekend. Gonna see the Doobies Saturday night at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, which looks to be northwest of downtown near St. Charles. There were some posts about the sandwiches here somewhere but I couldn't find them after a quick look. So....please give me the sales pitch again. Where to go, what to get. If we do it it'll likely be Saturday late lunch.

    What's Cooking?

We can get everything prepped in advance, but when it's go time, it's make a pizza, cook a pizza, repeat. And cooking in an Ooni requires attention, so there's that too. When future SIL is here, we'll split duties but that wasn't the case for this.

    What's Cooking?

Birthday pizza party here yesterday. Prep Saturday to give folks what they want, go time Sunday. I didn’t get the sourdough started soon enough to go that way, and really I didn’t want the added baby sitting that requires, so I was happy to do yeast. Second pizza was done and I was walking in the door when… I got stampeded by Rusty Ray D. Dog. I stopped, the pizza didn’t. Splat! Sorry grandma Bev, let’s try this again. All went well but I was worn out after it all. Second weekend in a row with a big to-do. One of the highlights was a BBQ chicken pizza. Pre-cooked chicken, thinly sliced red onion and a big dose of Marty-Q sauce. I haven’t made this in a long time. Folks really liked it. The downside is that’s the end of the Marty-Q sauce. Hint hint @BilletHead 🤪
  18. Twins? Cool.

    What's Cooking?

Woah, that’s from me? I thought you had a new one. That’s cool! I just revived mine the last couple days. Was going to do sourdough pizza tomorrow but got started too late. Regular yeast dough with some sourdough mixed in. Stay tuned!

    What's Cooking?

Did you ever have something that just took you into a new food direction? We ate at an Austrian restaurant in KC. Excellent schnitzel, lingonberry sauce, red cabbage and an interesting mustardy potato salad. We’ve had all this before, and the first post in this thread has a jaegershnitzel and red cabbage. But this was something we haven’t had in a long time delicious! But this dessert! Double-dang!! Slightly sweet, sorta savory. Kinda like cream cheese but different. Thin, crispy strudel pastry. That’s lightly flavored whipped cream on top. I can’t stop thinking about it! 🤪
  23. Earlier in the year I was getting bitten by mosquitoes and chigger so badly I didn’t even want to go out. It has gotten a lot better. Also, when there was all the talk about cicadas a month or two back I just want seeing them. But a few weeks ago I started seeing them here. Rusty loves to chase them down and eat them😀

    What's Cooking?

Top down: Extra virgin olive oil, Parmesan cheese, parsley and basil from the garden, V’s frozen cheese raviolis, Jasper’s marinara. Making the most of what we had.

    What's Brewing?

The Southern Comfort and Yukon Jack incidents, of 1977 and 1981 respectively, led to a lifelong avoidance of all sweetened whiskeys.
