  1. Well, Jack -- I tie a string onto a thwart with a few Spaghetti O cans from dinner on it. If I hear the cans in the night, I poke my Walthers PPK out there and empty it in the general direction of the sound. I've never lost a boat.
  2. I'll sure be interesting to see how it plays out. In the meantime, my tummy tells me Drew's in the right place.
  3. Found this old ad. Geez:
  4. I've got an XD11 (old logo, like the one on the right in the picture) and a couple X700's down in the basement. A few good Rokkor lenses, some junk ones too, plus accessories. XD11 belonged to my dad, X700s are mine. I can't seem part with them, but I can't see myself dragging them out either. They are good cameras -- Minolta was a great company back in the day. KEH camera does a pretty brisk business in used equipment, and they're good to deal with if you don't get any takers here.

    Who's Reading What?

So, I ordered a copy of A Sand County Almanac. Just finished up the first part -- where he goes through the months & seasons at his farm. Man, what great read it's turning out to be. He notices things we would all walk past a hundred times without seeing, then analyzes and draws conclusions about various aspects of it and how things are interrelated. He's got a very descriptive and eloquent way of describing things, without it being a chore to read. I'm reading the Kindle version on a laptop, and it's pretty nice to be able to Google some of the plants, animals or locations he talks about as I go. I'll likely get a used hardback of this one -- it's worthy of a place on the library shelf. Glad you guys mentioned it.
  6. I don't know the full context, or how it ended up -- because it's all a load crap anyway, and I won't watch any of it -- but what a freakin' joke. I wish we could sweep everybody out (R, D, I) and start from scratch.

    Cabela's

I think these guys have figured out how to make money. http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/CAB:US/income-statement
  8. I know I'm only seeing a small slice, but that doesn't look as bad as I would have thought. But, what do I know. I'm sure it's plenty bad for the folks that lost their homes, livelihoods, retreats, etc.
  9. I think there's like 10,000 lakes in Minnesota.
  10. Crummy land costs less. You either pay for the 'good' ground, or by the bad stuff and pay to fix it up. Location was likely the biggest factor in the decision.
  11. I'm talking two-day total, are you?
  12. Finally went out and checked the gage. 4.5 inches and counting.
  13. Isaac's kinda parked over western MO, eastern KS and we're still getting a gentle rain. Up over 2 inches now. Didn't make the right turn they thought it would. Found a pretty cool website with hurricanes mapped out. http://ibiseye.com/.
  14. 1.48 here at the moment. Nice, gentle rain -- the good kind -- still coming down. Sump's only kicking on every 10-15 minutes -- just about right I'd say. Our little creek down the road was looking nice and full a few hours back. I can't remember being this enthused about some rain!
  15. Nice looking flies. Like you, I haven't been fishing much either. What are those kinked hooks in the two center pics on the top row? I keep thinking I'm gonna pull out the tying stuff, and at least pretend I'm still a fisherman, but stuff (read: work) keeps getting in the way. It's getting kinda old.
  16. What town you talking about JD?
  17. Yep. You might like the Tennessee Sunshine stuff I mentioned above too.
  18. Like Wayne, I'm not gonna go out and check the guage. Nice, steady rain has been falling for probably a couple hours. Before that, off and on most of the day. Station pretty close to me is reporting 0.81 inches to www.wunderground.com
  19. I've heard of the ghost pepper -- not for me!
  20. I know what you mean -- in the flavor/heat mix, Tobasco leans a lot toward the heat side. I like it, but don't use much. Chipotle version is different -- not as hot and vinegary; real smoky. A pretty good flavored relatively mild sauce I like is: http://www.cajungroc...sauce-1264.html I also like Franks and the Sriracha (Chinese) stuff
  21. Who cares about the 2nd amendment? It's the 19th amendment I'm pist about.
  22. Yeah, but you go to sprinkle a little on your eggs, you might end up with a quart. And, yeah, the chipotle is good stuff.
  23. Oh, sorry. No forfeit -- flat out lost that one.
  24. Is that some veiled reference to the Kansas Jayhawk? I'm a tuition paying dad-of-a-Wildcat now. EMAW
  25. You are officially forgiven. Now don't mess it up by responding to this post.
