  1. I'm walking down the coffee/tea aisle at the store today and a label catches my eye. And, I think to my self, 'No... they wouldn't!' But they did:

    What's Cooking?

Took the kimchi plunge today. Used the same recipe as @BilletHead, from the Ball canning site. I was a little chicken to do a whole tablespoon of the chili flakes though -- did about half of what the recipe called for.
  3. Had these guys show up today

Loved them as a kid—I always went for them first. Now, not so much. None in my fruitcake. 😄

    What's Cooking?

I'm gonna give kimchi a try soon. Got the fermentation lids and glass weights the other day. Also some gochugaru. Gotta find a recipe and just do it.

This guy started showing up a couple days ago. First time I've seen a Red-Bellied woodpecker this year. Taken through our dirty window:

    Whatchya Drinking?

Catch up post. Like this brewery a lot. They do German beer styles only, and don't do the stupid names all the others feel the need to do. This was a goodun: Another local that Mar-tay got me thinking about. Good stuff, but at 12% ABV it packs a wallup: Love this stuff, and it's a very interesting process that is used to make it: Here, I pre-Googled it for you if you care. The Dude abides!

Alright, here's a catch up post. Let's see how many photos I can jam in here: Roasted chicken and veggies: Shrimp tacos with mango salsa and chipotle mayo: Chili. This time we made it with ground beef : Pizza pizza. Margherita with fresh mozzarella, crushed San Marzano tomatoes, salt and oil: (Ooni Koda 16 on order; should arrive late March. Can't wait!) Chile Colorado with Ancho and New Mexico chiles and pork, semi-refried black beans and sorta Spanish rice: Vegetable, beef and barley soup: Chili verde with pork and green chili cornbread:
  16. My bird dog of a lifetime was Molly. Probably not a coincidence that I put the most time and effort into her training. She’s also the dog my kids grew up with. She was a great gun dog, but was kinda hard-headed around the house. Lived for food and would do whatever she could to get it. Didn’t mind the consequences. I’ve got her ashes in a container in my office. Some day I’ll scatter them, but I haven’t settled on where yet. We sure do miss her.
  17. I was out hunting western KS several years ago. I had permission to hunt a field and as we pulled up a few guys were getting ready to hunt the field across the road. They asked us to join them. One of the guys pointed to a liver and white Brittany and kinda said under his breath, 'You know who that is?' I said I didn't and he told me it was Shambo's Dark Shadow, which didn't mean anything to me then. He had racked up a bunch of wins by that time and ended up in the Brittany Hall of Fame. We spread out quite a bit and for whatever reason he stayed fairly close to me. Now that dog was a freakin' machine and would hold a point forever. It was a very cool experience to hunt behind that dog. Our Max A’Million is a great grandson of him.
  18. Never met a GSP I didn’t like. A guy in our group had one and he was a machine. Hunted in fairly close, always found birds. Great personality too. Another guy had an English Setter and it was a mess. But I wouldn’t draw a negative conclusion from that one data point. Another buddy has gotten into Deutsch Drahthaars big time and loves them. Haven’t hunted with him lately, so no firsthand experience with them. I’ve had Brittanys for 30 years and I love them. Go with what you like. Buy from a reputable breeder, put in the work and get them on birds as much as possible and you’ll have the best chance for success.
  19. Hah! Just a screen grab to show what they look like. Not mine.
  20. Markings make me think it's a Sparrow Hawk A/K/A Kestrel. That would be a fairly small falcon -- about the size of a Blue Jay. Kind of rust colored, right? Very beautiful and cool birds. We banded some of those in college.
  21. Maybe so. I think I've waited long enough. Order was from Adorama -- I guess we'll see how they handle this.
