  1. Yep. When people talk about "moral compass" it seems that most are focusing on the wrong things. It's time to stop caring about stuff that doesn't affect us, because we have plenty of real problems. How about we worry a bit less about gay marriage and we can focus a bit more on all the waste that Tyson plant is dumping into the river......we're just getting distracted by stupid, inconsequential stuff while a bunch of very real, very consequential things go virtually unnoticed. What gets more attention, people talking about Michael Sam being the bane of the NFL or the possibility of disaster from Pebble Mine? Which do you think is more important? The incongruity there is bringing us down as a country.
  2. +1 But then I'm just a troll, so what do I know?
  3. Yep. Not many smallies there, plenty of rainbows though........
  4. I love that clip. Summarizes a lot of our problems IMO.
  5. Arkansas is better than expected. Nice win at Texas Tech. They look like a potential bowl contender at this point. Still don't like Bret, but an interesting rivalry betweem MU/Arkansas would be nice.
  6. Only been checked once, along the Salt River below Mark Twain a couple years ago. Really nice guy, almost seemed like he felt guilty for even checking. Little did he know that I wish I'd get my license checked more often cause that'd mean we have more enforcement along our streams.
  7. I definitely don't think UCF is as good as last year. They might only be an 8 win team when it's said and done. It was more the margin of victory that was impressive than the win itself. They showed their talent in the first half, when their o-line basically pushed us around. Couldn't have been more different in the second. Interested to watch Tennessee/OU here in a couple. I fully expect an Oklahoma win but I'm curious to see if UT can compete. They have looked pretty good in their first couple of games. Of course Oklahoma has too......
  8. Well, Mizzou is better than anyone thought.....38-10 over the team that won the Fiesta Bowl last year???????? I know UCF lost Blake Bortles, but if you take what's happened this year as a whole Mizzou looks like a danged impressive team. Looking like the favorite to challenge UGA for the east, if anyone has any hope of doing that.
  9. Yup.
  10. Goodell won't be done. It takes something of really mammoth proportions to force out a major pro sports commish who doesn't want to leave. This is just further evidence that he's a jackwagon, which we already knew. Bottom line: I enjoy the NFL, but I know what I'm watching. There are some high character guys out there but I know that off the field many of the players that I cheer for on a given Sunday are doing crap that's worse than one would care to imagine. This is catching our attention because there's video, but you know this kind of thing happens all the time. I guess the point is, it's a fun game, but people who idolize the players are doing everyone a diservice. These are just guys that are playing a sport that encourages violence/anger/everything else that goes hand in hand with disgusting situations like this whole Ray Rice thing. It's why it never surprises me all that much when I hear about one of my favorite players (pro or college) doing something that sickens me. Take a look at DGB for further evidence.
  11. I would pay to not stay in a campground anywhere the Current River.
  12. I'm starting to think the NCAA needs an "anti-Calipari" rule. That is, the test to see if something is shady enough to be against bylaws is whether Calipari does it. Because he has found every loophole in existence and every way to skirt the rules (at least when he isn't breaking them outright.)
  13. Huh. That's an awfully odd rule. Any clue what the purpose is?
  14. Yup. You'll have a veritable highway of floaters going by your campsite especially in the afternoon so I wouldn't expect much more solitude, but there's nothing to stop you. Generally, if it's a gravel bar on a decent sized river you can assume you'll be okay to camp there. Even moreso on a national river. Yep.
  15. Toledo is a good enough IMO that they serve as a decent measuring stick. Not your usual cupcake game. They have 18 returning starters from a pretty good team including a great offensive line. Missouri was only favored by a field goal and many thought they'd get taken out altogether. Certainly they are better than one SEC team in Vanderbilt, and possibly 2 or 3. It doesn't mean Missouri suddenly moves way up the pecking order in the east, but we know the offense can function with our current personel and that our d-line can get the job done against a very good, veteran OL. That's something. The Big Ten is in fact terrible. Penn State's sanctions just got lifted, and they look like about the only team in that league with any hope at all of making the playoff this year. Even that's a major longshot.
  16. I missed it while floating the Jacks Fork, but after watching a replay of the MU @Toledo game, my Tigers really looked a lot better this week. They were only favored by 3-5 points but put an absolute shellacking on. Maty Mauk is already a star and this is only his second game as a non-replacement starter for Mizzou. Markus Golden and Shane Ray look like they will keep our defensive line as intimidating as ever. All in all, I was very impressed in their performance in a road game that could easily have been a loss if they hadn't come out ready to go. They've got another tough one next week against UCF, though, so they can't afford a letdown. That said, this Mizzou team doesn't appear (at least right now) to have taken a big step back from last year. I expect a couple more losses, but it doesn't feel like a big tumble is in the cards. If they can beat UCF and Indiana in the next two weeks, they will basically have a postseason berth locked up heading into SEC play (with Vandy, UK and Arkansas coming to Faurot.) That said, neither team will be a cupcake.
  17. I think the cloudy/cool weather had the river fishing really well yesterday. Just perfect fishing weather. I know that stretch of the Jacks can be hit or miss. Bottom line is we just got lucky and landed in the right place at the right time.
  18. I think I missed you MoGuy. I ended up doing Eminence-Two Rivers Saturday so that would make sense. The fishing was quite good. There were of course some dead spells, but they were few and far between-and some of the rest of the time it was almost too easy. The Rebel Teeny Craw was the only thing that got tied on the entire day. The fishing was best in the lower parts of the riffles, but really I did fairly well anywhere, including the dead slow pools. They topped out at about 15 inches but there were some larger fish that we saw but couldn't hook. I was in no danger of getting lonely but even the crowds were entirely manageable. Just one of those rare days where everything falls into place and you get to experience Ozark smallie fishing at its finest. Spent the rest of the trip poking around in Peck Ranch CA along with a stop at Rocky Falls. Not a bad way to spend the weekend in all. I have plenty of pictures and I'll get them up (possibly as late as tomorrow.)
  19. I'm gonna headed off to spend a couple days down in the Eminence area, hiking on the Ozark trail and then getting on the lower Jacks either Saturday or Sunday. I'm not expecting much in terms of fishing based on recent reports, but who cares. At least it looks like a cool front will be coming in that might give us decent weather. Been too long since I've floated that river. Plan to post a report here in a couple days hopefully w/plenty of pictures.
  20. Seahawks look terrifying again. If their offense stays this good (along with the D) no one will touch them. Of course they'll probably lose a couple somewhere but they appear to be the clear superbowl favorite. With Percy Harvin being healthy they could actually be better.

Starts tonight, Seahawks vs. Packers. It's safe to say I'll be rooting for Green Bay. That's one thing that I can agree on with Rams fans. Plus, the Packers have always been my secondary rooting interest (especicially in the late Mike Shanahan/Josh McDaniels years where my Broncos were basically unwatchable.)
  22. Valuable contribution. Great, because we need more people who take their fishing so "very seriously" that a beginning fisherman is "stupid". Sure, there are some beginner level questions being asked here but it's coming from a beginning level fisherman. It's not surprising and it's what a fishing forum is for. On the off-chance I'm wrong and this guy is trolling us, I'm gonna look like an idiot. But in the meantime I'm pretty ashamed of all the crap we're giving someone who is trying to learn how to fish. And trust me, having once been a beginning trout fisherman this all rings far too true to possibly be fake. As to actually offer a suggestion: I'd try Powerbait trout dough, #10 hooks, with a little sinker about a foot up the line. Ball up the dough on the hook enough to float it off the bottom and cover the entire shank.....but not much more than that. Either drift it or let it sit on the bottom depending on current speed, whichever seems like a more viable option. Get there at the buzzer with 2-4 pound line and you'll have a decent chance. Good luck.
  23. Some amazing pics there. I've been doing most of my trout fishing on the Current lately but I still love those little creeks. Need to get back into that kind of fishing this fall.
  24. In a small stream like that I think you're right to err on the side of caution. There will be plenty of trout water that's still fishable through the summer, though. Like, pretty much anywhere besides BSC.
