The Current River has some pigs, I've seen them.... They've always avoided my hook though. But its never hard to catch enough 10 to 15 inchers to keep me happy though, so its all good. In fairness, I never really target the trophies, I've always been one to prefer numbers over size. But the potential for big fish is definitely there on the Current.

I've heard the same, but honestly, with there already being so many trout in the Current River system, I doubt if a few more put in there will make much of a difference, especially cutts, because they tend to be drift feeders that go after bugs. Brown trout would really be the only kind of trout that could be a real threat to hellbenders I would think (and of course browns are already well established in the Current), but I could be wrong. Several hundred thousand rainbows, and about 10 thousand browns are stocked each year into the Current, so I seriously doubt a few thousand more will hurt anything further. And at Taneycomo, I don't really think hellbenders are even I factor, although I could be wrong.

That's a pretty good bass float, some real nice smallies in that stretch..... I'd suggest Crawdad crankbaits, spinnerbaits, tubes, minnows, nightcrawlers. Make sure to keep track of the water levels, as the Bourbeuse is easily blown out.

I've suggested the idea of putting cutts in our streams before.................. It would really help diversify our fisheries. I think Taney would be the best bet for both cuts and triploids to do well, but I could be wrong. I also think cutthroats would do very well up in the catch and release area at Montauk.

The nearest trout water to Fayetteville is the White River Beaver tailwater. Of course you'll find rainbows, browns brookies, and cutts. As for a trout stamp, I thought it is 12 dollars, but I could be wrong. I know for a three day license, and a trout permit you'll be set back 23 dollars per person. Hope this helps.

I'm very sorry about your troubles. The landowner is clearly a jerk. But this could just be the case that gets this stream considered navigable, at least something good would come of this. Hope he drops the charge.

120 dollars for a campsite.... That would be an expensive rate for a cabin rental. I wish them good luck, but I won't be going. If you want stockies, a trout park is 3 dollars to fish, and ten dollars to camp. That will be my plan until my pockets get a whole lot deeper. In my opinion this is a place solely for rich city folks that can't tell a trout from a catfish.

Such landowners are selfish in my opinion. Enjoy what you have, but don't cut off a navigable waterway to the public. Personally, I would challenge this.............................. Good luck

The Current is my favorite freestoner in the ozarks........................ By the way, probably not a cutbow you caught. There are some rainbows in there that appear to be cutbows, but they aren't. The closest cutthroat fishery to the Current is the White River tailwater in Arkansas. But as you figured out, the Current is a world class rainbow and brown trout fishery. Glad you caught some nice fish, sounds like a great time.

I know what I should have done in this situation, and I didn't do it. At the time, I didn't want to leave my spot to get up and drive to the hatchery office to report him, but I aknowledge that would have been the right thing to do................. Next time. Mr. Poacher, you know who you are.

I've used mono 4 to 8 pound test with good success, and I prefer spider wire, but that's just me.

I've fished the Current in the Van Buren area several times. I've done pretty well for smallies, with quite a few walleye and sunnies mixed in........... Nice place to fish.

Saw the Bourbeuse on my way to Montauk yesterday, and man was it high and fast. Could be wrong, but I don't think it will be fishable for quite a while. You might be able to pull out a catfish or something, but I bet those bass are about impossible to catch. Could be wrong. Just thought I'd tell anyone who might wanna know.

By the way, I was fishing yesterday in the catch and release area at Montauk (fly only) with a rooster tail, (single hooked) with a conservation officer or some MDC employee close enough to see what I was doing. The only thing he said to me was to ask me how the fishing was................................... That might mean something By the way, the rooster tail produced exactly zero takes. The only thing I could get a hit on in the C&R area was a Glo-bug (aka Powerbait imitating fly) :lol:
