Tunnel Hull Kayaks?
BilletHead replied to Forsythian's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
I have a Native 12 ' Ultimate. Very stable. I have stood up in it but it is a bit wobbly. When I fish I like to stand up so my Diablo Adios is the choice. The Native is a faster paddle so I used it this morning for transportation while teal hunting to move my decreped carcass, guns and decoys a mile to the hot spot. Mrs. BilletHead walked to the spot. -
Mr. and Mrs. BilletHead did not go in the rain yesterday morning but we did get nine dove in the afternoon. This morning five teal met there maker and will end up in out bellies.

Good job young man, BilletHead

N. Fork Of Cda River, Id Panhandle Trip
BilletHead replied to Nortrad's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
Nice report, My, how we wish we were still out there fishing. You got to love those aggressive cutt's. Thanks Nortrad, Mr. and Mrs. BilletHead -
. Chris yes the rain helped a bit but still not enough. All the rain we finally got only added tow to three inches to all the water we had left. We need a gully washer for some run off . This is the mud hole where the old man with the skinny dogs live. it was pumped dry many moons ago and really it had grass all over but still some mud. I had the decoys in two inches of water. You should of seen the shoveler land he was not expecting the shallowness and he about did an endo over his beak. Funny as heck. Today we got seven at the pig barn lake and it was messy bad. Low also. Mike has a electric fence around it and the corn and has turned cattle in it. Muck and cow poop all over the edges. On a good note when it does fill there will be to foot or more of grass and weeds along the edges and there will be fourty to fifty yards deep from where it is now to the pond bank . Action was tremendous early. We had a mix of shovelers and teal a half hour before shooting time land out front. Tight they were and we just waited them out. At sunrise there was only one away from the big ducks. We popped up and got him. No shots on the others or we would of killed the wrong thing. I cannot believe the big ducks here right now. Got a couple more and then when picking up three pintails tried to land, What the heck? One finally did and we were standing out of the layout blinds. Off they went and started going round and round over the corn, then they went down. I told the Mrs. I got to see if there is a mud hole in the field. No water but the three ducks were going down one of the rows not paying any attention to me eating. I got to within 50 yards and then up they went, flew a ways and back down. I went back and we started picking up and as we left they went down on the lake. Someday I will get a duck over a field, maybe this will be the year? We jumped a small pond on the way home and this made seven for the morning. Four of which were greenwing, three bluewing. Last year we had nothing around and this all kinds. Who knows tomorrow maybe nothing. I know I will try if I can get out of bed in the morning. Kind of over did it even with the Mrs. helping. BilletHead

Been watching a few. Started seeing them for the last four days in our area. So Mrs. BilletHead and I hit one of the ponds where they had been working. Got set up early and of course the birds had been roosting there and as we set up in the dark they were buzzzing over us. Four landed before shooting hours. Soon they left. A little after 7:00 a shoveler came in and we got to wach him. At 7:30 a trio of bluewings came in and we got them all. The Mrs. and the first three. Then more until our limit was met. The final of the day plus three big puff balls to add to the pot. Cleaned the bunch and had teal, puff ball and garden peppers for dinner. Good eats for sure. Ah yes a glass of Zinfandal to wash it all down. I know some of my friends don't like the tailgate shot of the harvest but hey it looks good, BilletHead

Yes it benefitted me too but I was on the other side of things. If I remember right I was your river buddy the first day of fishing. We started up by the bridge. You caught some nice fish my friend. I knew it was you on here a while back from your photo. We had a good retreat this Spring again. I feel very blessed to be able to help out, BilletHead

Sweet wheels Eric! I think we fished together at reel recovery last year. Have you got a canoe rack figured out for the truck yet? BilletHead

Anyone Have Experience With Benelli Vinci
BilletHead replied to Justin Spencer's topic in Weapon Discussions
Glad you got the one you wanted Justin, I had thought about one that would do 3.5 inch shells but I am not who I used to be tough wise. Let us know how it does with the bigger shells. You know you got it just in time for teal BilletHead -
Andrew Zimmer on bazarre foods America just ate one on one of his shows. In Florida, he was with some folks who called themselves "Crackers" . They like to live off food they gather themselves. They also cooked squirrel, heads on and ate the brains. My grandmother when she was alive gave me grief for head shooting the tree rats as she liked the brains. I also have a freind who likes the brains. So far not for me but maybe someday. I now eat my own wild duck rare which I never thought I would ever do, BilletHead

You blend in very well scott. Did the calls involve shaking a plastic bag? That is the neatest trick you shared last year. BilletHead

Looks Like Isaac Is Heading For Missouri
BilletHead replied to Blazerman's topic in General Angling Discussion
4 inches on the nose total here total. Still coming down but a bit slower. I am so thankful, BilletHead -
Way to go Scott! I am starting to twitch. Did not even get to open up dove here this morning. Raining hard and has all day. I am not complaning though. We need rain more than we do dove. There is always a tomorrow for shooting birds, BilletHead

Ok here it the last day. Everyone has been pretty good about me being long winded. So when Tim picked us up at the campground he says lets go to a river to where my dad and I went in 1983. We will have to hike in if we can find a place to get into this little canyon. Got to the river and parked. I say where is the river? Oh it is hard to see from here, kind of over this enbankment. Got geared up walked a bit but still no river but you could hear it. We then descend through this little cut, slowly and sure enough there is the creek. When we make it to the bottom One way is a very small meadow in this gorge, other way it is steep sided and narrow. Tim and I are both holstered with bear spray and he says it will work on moose too. Some places are choked with low thick willows. As we trail through them he says "here bear, here bear". We start hitting pockets and plunge pools. Soon all of us were hooking up with more cuttthroat. Time to get out of there. The climb out and up. Mrs. Billethead says "does this make my butt look big" I am smart and don't say a thing! See what happens when you drive too close to the edge of the road? Finally some of the local deer. Thanks for letting us share our yearly trip to the mountains. We have already started saving for next year. We will fish some of the same places and try a few new ones. We have learned you need to explore and get off the road. Do this and be rewarded. You know what Chris? You really know your crap! We got 1.3 " here rain wise. Billethead

He is a great guy for sure Gavin. I know some of you know him from belonging to the Ozark Flyfishers. First time we fished with him I was like a sponge soaking up everything he was teaching. Now he points me in a direction and says you know what to do. He then gets the wife started and then the the magic happens when we all have fish on, BilletHead

Well two more fishing days left so it was a trip back to Cody and a day off. The next two days we fished with a friend who owns and operates North Fork Anglers fly shop in Cody. Tim Wade, I have talked about Tim on here before but here is a recap of how we met him. Six years ago my Bride had breast cancer. During her recovery I encouraged her to apply for Casting For Recovery which is a retreat for women who have or have had breast cancer. Well Tim is a Missouri boy and he always comes back to help out. Well as fate would have it he was Pat's "River Helper" for her last day when the girls get to fly fish. This started quite a friendship and now we go out and fish with Tim. this was our fifth year. We have a blast and he takes us places off the grid sometimes. I won't tell the places we go with him as they are pretty special. Tim carries his rod also and we all fish side by side. We went two places that day, first a creek we have been to before. Third time with him but we have also fished it on our own. Hoppers, stimulaters and trudes with droppers at times worked. Caught lots at the above place. Next place we tried was unfished before by Tim. He says and I quote " I heard of a little creek from a guy that there was a few fish to be caught" So we grab the map and start looking for the creek. Found it on the map and took some of the craziest roads to get there. When we finally find it there is hardly any water in it at all. We stop and I finally find a place that has a double washtub size hole of water between trickles. I dip my trude in this pocket, I mean dip like you would for crappie between all these willows and proceed to yank out four littl cutthroat. By gosh Tim says there is fish in there. We drive a bit farther to find a series of six beaver dams in a row. Tim and I start picking apart these ponds as the Mrs. takes pictures from above. What a hoot! i would say we picked up a dozen or more from this creek. One to the last day next post, BilletHead
