  1. Nine more keepers today but I bet we had to leave four times that in the woods that have gone too far along. New patches have been found and I will not let that happen next season.. With the size of some of these I fear it may be towards the end? I hope not and will be looking more in the next few days. In the past I have found them towards the last week of turkey season and that is three weeks away. This batch was very meaty and sooooooo tasty but you will have to see that in the food thread!

    Better be more coming.
  3. You know I have never met a snake I did not like. Now people are a different story as they show their true colors pretty quick. I too have messed with snakes. Venomous and non. Caught and handled copperhead and cottonmouth. Both times it was like why in the heck did I do this. It did produce a rush though. Had a rosy boa as a teenager. I have decided you JD and feathers and fins should get together become friends . We would give you the titles of the official Ozarks Anglers Snake Wranglers. Go to schools etc. and educate the public about the benefits of snakes. Again snakes here in the states only become aggressive if provoked and again people can be aggressive just because they can. So for the most part I trust a snake, BilletHead
  4. Ha Wrench! Stick to outboards and you will be ok. Go ahead and send Sugarbritches down and let her pick so fresh stuff. One thing though she and the kids can enjoy the harvest. You Mr. negative Nellie cannot partake. Oh by the way I may get a package sent your way this week and it isn't edible , BilletHead
  5. Dang good looking is right there RPS, Tacos today. Ground venison from out back of the house. Lettuce picked today from the garden. Some of the fire roasted salsa from our garden from last year. Cheese from Sam's club. Shells, canned tomatoes (canned from the store tastes better than the ones from produce dept. this time of the year) and onions from wally world. BilletHead
  6. First time I have heard the straw utensil for sauce! Remember Chief it is high in brown sugar so if it is added to heat for long it will burn, Billethead
  7. Did you get that mole Tho1mas? Well took a play from Ness's play book and did some hoop work. Did some dressing up with some chicken wire. It will roll up on the sides where I can sit on a bucket to weed or pick maters. I did this for two reasons. First it is still and will be storm season. I figure I can throw on a cheap tarp and protect it from hail. We missed a good hail storm a while back. Second reason we have some fawns from last year. named them the orfawns. I sot their mother during archery season last year. They are yard pets and spend time in the yard. They have got three of my tomato plants already. Guess I deserve that. When it gets hot and dry later this summer the coons, possums and squirrels get the maters too. So here is one of the protected planters finished, Now my payback from the orfawns, Some temporary work for trying to keep them at bay, Pepper are in the ground now too. 8. I thought it might be. I got to visit with him the other day. He told me that was his favorite rig now. We got to do a trade of our BBQ sauces. He makes a good one! BilletHead Yea sure you were using a jig

  13. What a glorious beautiful day out with Mrs. BilletHead. No wind to speak of, warm and the river had cleared up nicely. Air temp when we started at 7 AM was 55, water temp 59. When we quit back at the ramp air temp 71 and water temp of 62. We threw two and a half inch to three and a half inch clousers. Gray over white and chartreuse over white half and half's. We literally caught so many fish we were tired. 60 to 70 easy but get this all were males. Could not find a female one. We caught them from a foot deep to maybe three foot at the most. It did not matter where you cast. To the bank or in the middle. Had some bust the clouser as we stripped and lifted on the surface at the back of the boat. There was one little pocket where we had several doubles on at the same time. When they hit these little males would literally yank the rod in your hands. Picked up a 18nch walleye amongst the whites. Farther down river twenty crappie some little ones grabbing the three inch flies. Kept four to go with the walleye and invited them all to dinner. We will release them to the grease. Turn them loose in Crisco bay. The new boat is doing great. Goes just where I need it to. Watched eagles and listened to turkeys as we fished. I am so lucky. Some photos, Mrs. BilletHead doing her thing. Whish this photo would of shown the blue color of this guys fins. One of the pockets with a high concentration of fish. Walleye came from the bottom of this place. This little crappie bit off more than he could chew. Some friends invited to go home with us. BilletHead

I'll bring dessert, Guilty pleasure. Monkey bread. Been snacking on it all afternoon and the Mrs. just brought me more heated up dripping with butter, BilletHead
  18. Ooooh nice funguses fellows, We looked and managed five and one of those was pretty useless. Did score hitting our wild asparagus patches. So with grilled chicken we had a taste of morels and oven roasted asparagus. We like it this way sprinkled in olive oil, sea salt and coarse pepper. BilletHead
  19. Neat and thanks for posting the photos, BilletHead
  20. Well got the tomatoes in the ground yesterday afternoon. They were real tall and I planted them very deep. The plants looked happy today. I checked and the day we started these indoors, March first. That makes them less than six weeks old. Peppers will go out this week BilletHead
  21. Yea Seth, What Ness said garden will wait and you will have stuff when others are done. Short amount of time when fish are running and turkeys are gobbling. I just have some extra free time to get my stuff started. Should of gardened today instead of fishing. Did not do too well on the river, BilletHead
  22. Getting tired of muddy river!

  23. Garden still coming along. Lettuce and broccoli going like crazy. Had to add another set of sides to the beds as it was starting to hit the Plexiglas covers. I am hoping after tonight I will not have to cover these plants. Not supposed to freeze or frost but calling for the upper thirties . Going to transfer covers to the tomato bed. Speaking of tomato plants. I have to get them outside this weekend. Hoping for the best but with some the height of over eighteen inches they have to go out. I even found a bloom on one plant? Go figure? If I can remember next year will not start them so soon. I will plant these plants real deep. Two thirds to three quarters of the plant height. Peppers large too but I will babysit them in the house a bit longer. Got my horseradish from in the fridge into tubs also. I just did not think it was big enough to use so I will give it another year and see this Fall. Some pictures, Lettuce bed, some broccoli in there too. You can compare how it has grown from earlier in this garden thread. Buttercrunch Ruby Glow Bibb Vivian Tomato starts Peppers
  24. Another pretty nice one fooled by the slider. A bunch more too. Same pond as before. I am not beyond telling you all of catching one while not paying attention too. I was wading and along the edge there is the mossy algae gunk. While I had casted and it fell short not shooting all of my line out I had at my feet. So while straightening out the mucky mess looking down I heard a splash, looked up to see my slider had been sucked under and my line was taking off. A lift of the rod tip and another one on Ponds are getting hot right now so visit one soon. Will just get better. 80 degrees air temperate right now at BilletHeadville. Wind is beginning to suck though, BilletHead
  25. Yes that will work before work. I went again this morning and fought the wind. It was worth it! BilletHead
