  1. Had a buddy buy some new maxi and said it has changed and not as strong as older stuff, color green is different and he could break 6 lb just by pulling and that was from 3 different spools/stores. Not what I am use to with maxi but have not had to buy any lately as I buy in 3000 yd spools. Anyone else had any problems with new maxima or just bad spools bought?
  2. Night time or low light hours, works very well and can cover water slow rolling for aggressive fish
  3. We had small tourney Bill was talking of out of Schooner, no boat in our small club that fits description. We found fishing pretty tough in KC area. One guy in club had a limit of 11+ lbs. Sunday on a power fishing shakyhead (5 inch sinko on 5/16 or 3/8 oz jig head). Fish are definitely sitting under docks. Caught several kentuckies on my first experience with the Ned rig, boy does that require some patience. Went to some very backs of coves, nobody home. Couple of empty beds, with no roamers seen. Seems some fish are on 30 degree banks with timber, slow bite for our club but we only fish TR once a year. Happy fishing to everyone
  4. Nice video. That would have been expensive rig to loose!
  5. Thanks guys, water warmer than I thought it would be. Smallies should move up big time with warm weather later in week if they haven't already
  6. Curious to know what are water temps at KC and dam area? Thanks
  7. Shows McClelland in Fischer creek and Kriet in Schooner creek, thought most were fishing up rivers but basstrac shows differently
  8. Anyone see any results anywhere on web?
  9. That drum is huge, they are some crawdad eating dudes
  10. Was down looking for housing and a dock in old shooters cove was tore up on ramp where it met the dock, not sure if it was ice or not because stiff arm bent as well
  11. You beat me to it! I agree totally
  12. Best bang for the buck is a good used boat, there are plenty of good used boats from 10 to 20K. Just get motor checked out along with all the electronics in a boat and pocket the other 20K you would spend on a new one IMO.
  13. Personal best TR bass was April 17th in 1998 and weighed 9 lb. 11 oz. and should have won 20k for catching biggest bass in a free tourney for staying at participating resorts but lost on technicality because I didn't check-in before going fishing although we were already paid. Still remember like it was yesterday. Fish caught on a storm rogue I sanded down and was bone color without paint. Couple years back a older gentleman fishing with me in a club tourney had a 5.29 smallie on smoke grub on a really windy day. He never got to touch it till weigh in because it was so windy I just threw her in well. All fish released to fight another day!
  14. Started throwing a-rig on 20# InvisX fluoro and after breaking a few off went to 65# braid and have yet to lose one. If you go with mono you will lose your rig 10 to 1 vs the braid IMO but I am no expert to say the least
  15. Nice job Bill! Wish I was coming to TR instead of Pomme this weekend!
  16. They still make the Kalin's Mogambo Grub which is a 6 inch bulky grub with a flipping tail
  17. Golden Horseshoe is a very clean and nice resort with good pricing. We have been staying there for years. They are located at about 10 mm in Horseshoe Bend area. They have a website to do your research. Tell them Steve from Jeff. Co. Hawg Hunters sent you.
  18. I have noticed the same problem with the InVizx in cold weather. I just use the 12 lb. and 15 lb. with no issues and stick with Maxima for lighter lines.
  19. When it is cold/rainy I wear cheap pair of jersey gloves covered up by cheap pair of dishwashing rubber gloves to keep hands nice and dry.
  20. Well Bill, you are correct in that you get what you pay for in the fishing world, I myself have been using a cheap rod for topwater and has worked great for myself. There is no doubt that a top of the line or more expensive rod would be better, but not as imperative as with other types of fishing in my opinion. But as you said, with a higher dollar rod it would be more versatile for other applications other than just topwater.
  21. In my humble opinion I would think any cheap $30 - $40 1-piece rod with medium action would be fine for a topwater rod if that is all you would use it for. Save your $$ for a good bottom bouncing rod
  22. I am with you KC Bass Fanatic, wish I was going but the wife is going out of town and I have to watch the dogs. It is getting to be the time when the bigguns move up shallow.
  23. Hello All, Nemo Bridge Resort is holding their first tourney with a $1,000 first place based on 25 boats. $100 entry which includes big bass and barbeque. The guys/gals at Nemo Bridge are some good people. If you are interested the flyer is attached. Tell them Steve from Jeff. Co. Hawg Hunters sent ya. Good fishing! 1st_Annual_tournament_pg_1.pdf
  24. Had a club tourney this past weekend and winning patterns were running and gunning shallow main lake points with spook or sammy early then go to a shakey head around and in docks. Fishing pretty tough right now I believe.
