Arrived around ten AM a too find other anglers had the same idea as we did but quickly got into fish. Near the spring access Rich (noluck) gave me a Y2k and we both picked up fish using them in the higher, off colored, swift water. Rich soon switched to a Primrose and Pearl and quickly started catching steadily. Seem to have most of his luck nymphing near the visible transitions in water depths. I was using the Y2k catching here and there. Till I asked a friendly fellow angler that was having constant tightlines. "Whats the secret pattern?" He showed me his Bedspread mini jig. I also had one in my box and after retying was was busy releasing more than I could keep count of. Which isn't hard for me to do (lose track of numbers). I prefer to concentrate more on the experience. Do remember catching as many as four in four consecutive drifts tho. We both used very little in different patterns for the day not messing with success I guess. I did swing a few soft hackles and had a couple of hook up but both were LDRs. Rich seems to be a pro at the long distance release. I think he was just shaking them loose to hurry up and stick another but he claimed different. I did also swing a olive SlumpBuster on size ten for a few minutes and picked up several more nice fish at the end of the day as the Sun was getting a little lower. Over all a great trip I thought. If only a day long one. And wish those fellows that I talked with before finally climbing out of the water. A good weeks stay. <~~my jealous look

Fly Rods In Zone 3 At Bssp
jjtroutbum replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Never a truer statement right there! but..... Give an inch and they(I)will want a mile. My complaint really stems from this. I drive back to the camp sight and have to look at that whole pretty lonely stretch with cut banks. Then I go light the camp fire and grumble quietly over my cool tin cup for a minute or two. Once again all is well. Until the next night after getting my next days tag and its there again teasing me so..... -
Fly Rods In Zone 3 At Bssp
jjtroutbum replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Ya but who really wants to use a plastic worm I know I don't ! Maybe superglue a very small green/ brown rubber grub to a size 12hook and add a nice partridge hackle on top of that would be better than making a box for scented flies that would be cheating to use else where. OK thats it I'm gonna make a line of bait flies for this summer. We'll have to get a get together for some experimenting after I hire a lawyer to go fishing. .....j/k about the lawyer. -
Fly Rods In Zone 3 At Bssp
jjtroutbum replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Good question that brings up bad feelings. I have been kicking around the idea of just adding some sent to my flies or in the least carrying some in my vest. In case I would need to "add" some more just to remain above the regs. Gavin wrote: "I think you will get a lot of nasty looks or worse for "poaching" in the bait zone. U caint use dat sissy fly rod in here boy." The set of riffles I mentioned above are no where near the bait fishermen normally and would mean nothing but a headache for anyone that would try to tight line a minnow or ect.. Therefor I would be mostly alone to do what ever style of presentation I prefer. Without annoying any of the chuckers. And if I did by my mere presence. If howdy doody wants to correct me by using force. I had better not feel in fear for my life or threat of serious injury because that could possibly open up a BIG hole. -
Nice report Joe I think Trout are good to eat also. As far as getting flogged for using bait and eating fish. I don't think that you will see much of that going on here as the vast majority of fishermen here believe that as long as things are done legally all is good. Besides if the trout are not kept by summer there all dead anyway. Good luck and Good eats, JJ

A very particular smiley from another board comes to mind. But certainly not when it comes to beautiful fishing reports. WELL DONE A+++

notifications- problems?
jjtroutbum replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Messages for, and from, the Admin
I just recived what appears to be a back log of e-mail notifications from the 9th to the 11th of the month. These were the only ones that i have received. There are many more still in never never land I guess since I have not been reciving them since well before and after the dates that were sent. Not a issue for me anymore per say. Ive gotten used to not getting notified. But thought that this info might be of benefit to the board and its handlers -

March 1st Is Approaching Fast!
jjtroutbum replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
NoNo its terribly crowded! The weather is miserable! The fish are tiny and really theres not that many! So stay home where its warm, not crowded and watch TV or play on the PC. -
I have not worn one but have thought about getting one. One thing to think about is a quick release. Don't wanna get hung buy your fishing gear!

Choosing the lesser of two evils is still a choice for evil. We need one two or ten new political parties. Then like in America there would be plenty of other choices rather than two teams playing the same game.

Multiple Fly Rigs In Fly Only Zones
jjtroutbum replied to jdmidwest's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I believe that it used to be legal to add rubber/bait to your hook and it be legal in zone three, but I think they amended the rules awhile back to exclude fly fishing completely in zone three. I may be wrong but the way I read the signs It say fly fishing is prohibited not just flies. I'm going down for the opener and will try and ask someone with a little more insight than myself. Might wanna create another thread for this later topic so that others may participate in it. Instead of the topic getting lost in one about Droppers. -
Glass rods and 9mm pistols. Sounds like a perfect fit. lol As compared to graphite and a .45. I'll do a little looking around and, see if I cant find one around some of my plastic packing friends. Check PMs for a link to a few on a board I am on.

Saw the S&W version of the AR15 on sale. A couple hundred more bucks on top of the rebate (handout) and I'll get one of those.

Multiple Fly Rigs In Fly Only Zones
jjtroutbum replied to jdmidwest's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I have thought over that very same idea and decided that I would not want that for the simple reason that I cant stand the bait only sections that restrict fly fishing in some of the parks. For instance some of the water in zone three a beautiful set of riffles that goes on for about a hundred yards. That I never see anyone fishing with bait. But yet I'm a criminal if I were to swing a wet or soft-hackle through the very same water. Makes me want to glue a salmon egg on a soft hackle. -
Mike delete OAF cookies I did and it has helped with the delay

Fly Tying Saturdays At Backcountry

Is that what Ozark Oysters are?!!!! -
IMHO 99% of what comes from the RFT is only suitable for the bottom of a bird cage. But for them to actually mention a weapon air or not in a non derogatory way is amazing in its self. Not to mention hunting with said rifle. I'm truly just happy that there is another way to dispatch all these unwanted and quite dangerous Missouri hood ornament volunteers.

http://www.riverfronttimes.com/2008-...-for-old-deer/ By Keegan Hamilton Published: February 6, 2008 If Missouri deer hunters were like Anton Chigurh, the cold-blooded hit man in the film No Country for Old Men, the animals would soon be considered an endangered species. Luckily for the deer, the state's outdoorsmen have not yet become crazed assassins. But thanks to a new regulation approved by the Missouri Department of Conservation, this deer season hunters will be allowed to kill the beasts with an unusual style of rifle that might appeal to the maniacal Chigurh. Last summer the six-person regulatory committee of the Missouri Department of Conservation voted unanimously to approve the use of high-caliber air rifles for deer hunting. The weapons, which must be a minimum of .40 caliber, are powered by an external hand pump, or a tank of compressed air. The changes officially take effect March 1, but the rifles will not be legal for hunting until regular-firearms deer season opens November 15. "It was a request from a small group of folks who used these large-caliber air guns," says Dennis Steward, a member of the regulatory committee who voted in favor of the new rule. "These firearms are not Daisy air rifles. They are high-powered, large-caliber, generally very expensive firearms that carry the foot-pounds of energy necessary to take down large game." Dennis Quackenbush, who custom builds and sells the rifles from his home in Urbana, Missouri, says air rifles differ from standard gunpowder-propelled weaponry. For one, the bullet is loaded directly into the chamber, generally through the breach, where the barrel meets the butt of the gun. After pressurizing the chamber of the rifle with air from an external tank, the hunter has only one chance to shoot his prey before having to reload and recharge. The range of the air guns is also significantly reduced; a shotfrom a standard .40 caliber rifle can carry more than a mile, while a round from an air rifle is only lethal within a few hundred yards. They're pricey, too: Quackenbush's .50 caliber deer rifles start at $585. Air-powered rifles are nothing new. Lewis and Clark carried a hand pump-powered model on their 1804 expedition. Long a popular tool for dispatching varmints, the guns have undergone recent refinements that make them suitable for big-game hunting. Quackenbush says there's no question that the rifles are powerful enough to take down a deer. A picture on his Web site (www.quackenbushairguns.com) shows a customer who used one of his guns to bag a 2,000-pound bison. According to Steward, for now the rifles will only be permitted for deer hunting, but could eventually be used for other types of big game, such as feral hogs. As for No Country's Anton Chigurh, Quackenbush says he ought to find another weapon. "These rifles are quite powerful, but the belief that these would make a good assassin weapon or sniper weapon, that's just not true," he says. "They just don't have the range." These "look" like a great idea. However I have my reservations about them. Thinking I should get ahead of eventual wader failure and maybe pick up a new pair of something in waders before I need them. Then I could save my older ones for backups or spares in case of manufacturing defect or whatever.
-
I kind of feel that your question is stacked against the breathable waders and let me explain how. Breathable waders are not intended or designed for insulating temperature( ie a coolie cup for your beer). They are designed to allow the users body to better regulate its temperature normally by being able to breath or perspire naturally and therefore be more comfortable all day. Simple appropriate dress for the elements as mentioned by Dano will assure maximum fishing comfort. The real advantage that "breathing" waders have is. The wearer Not getting clammy/sweaty from being shoved into a sealed bag all day.Since I fish hard and for extended periods when I get to fish. I remember feeling all most wet from wearing rubber waders when changing out of them. The big Disadvantage is reported to be durability and that to me has not proven to be the case. I have had my first and only pair of Bass Pro breathables for over five years. Try them out I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.

Multiple Fly Rigs In Fly Only Zones
jjtroutbum replied to jdmidwest's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
And I would agree with your statement however, If one was to cut the point off of either of the hooks hook after construction of the fly. I think It would no longer be against the rules. -
Doesn't really look much for false casting. Maybe let it hang down stream and load it forward and DUCK? !!!!!!!! Probably would then need a two handed retrieve to keep it off the bottom.
