  1. Thanks for the help guys, I don't think I'll be getting that buffalo. That is a pretty short wall on it and I do fish in the winter so that may not be the best option. Those wenonah's look nice but man there a lot of money. The mohawk solo looks good I think I might go with those if I can't find a guide. Man, I wish solos were easier to come by, I feel like I'm a private eye looking for someones long lost relative. I've only been in one solo before so I really want to try the particular model out before I buy it, but that may not happen. Thanks again guys.
  2. I did notice how blunted the tip was. Since most of my fishing is heading upstream I may want to look somewhere else. I also like how wide and light it is, so I don't know. I'm still interested in hearing anything positive or negative about it so keep the comments coming.
  3. No haven't floated in one but when I was down on The Buffalo this summer everyone had one. That makes me think they put out a good product but i just want to get some feedback from an owner. I'm going to call tomorrow about them and see if I can go down there and try one.
  4. Hey everyone, I'm in the process of buying a solo canoe and I'm trying to get some info on the quality of buffalo canoes. I've never owned one so I'm just trying to get some opinions from people. I'm looking at this particular model http://www.buffalocanoes.com/10_foot.htm but I would love to hear from anyone who has owned a Buffalo. Thanks.
  5. What do you guys know about Buffalo canoes? Looks pretty good but it is 650. Might be a good alternative if I can't track down a guide. http://www.buffalocanoes.com/10_foot.htm
  6. I called the dick's in Columbia and the three KC none of them had any in stock. I'm going to call the one in Columbia and see if they can get one shipped from another store. Hopefully they can, if not I'll check out Buffalo and keep my eye on Craig s list. Thanks guys
  7. Yeah I think I might try to go to dick's in Columbia this weekend and check out the guide. If it's similar to the pack I'll be very interested for that price.
  8. Well, I finally have enough money saved and I think I'm going to trade in my little kayak for a solo canoe. The main reason why I want a solo is because of the storage space issue that I'm constantly battling and also i think it might be a little easier on my back. I've looked at all sorts of models on-line and come to the conclusion that an old town pack or disco would be what i really want due to it's size and weight. But now the problem is how do I go about getting one. There is no retailer in the Springfield area, that I know of, that sells them. Does anyone know of a retailer that is relatively close? Within a three hour drive of Springfield.
  9. The James is full of channel cats, I've never caught or seen or even heard of anyone catching flatheads. I have a friend whose father catfishes The James with dip bait and does really well. I'll ask her where he fishes. I've seen guys cat fishing at Hooten but I've never seen anyone pull one out of there. A few times while bass fishing I've caught some above the lake out of heavy wood cover, you might try there. Good luck.
  10. I chucked everything i had at the flooded cover today and came away with one 12" LM. I don't know what the deal was, it was nice to take a break from studying though. Nice Fish
  11. That's exactly what I was thinking, I'm headed down tomorrow.
  12. Man, I always love your reports, through and concise. Thanks.
  13. Hey Bill, what kind of St. Croix's do you have?
  14. It look like I won't be fishing any river this weekend. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions I'll definably use them in the future, hopefully soon.
  15. Wow, you know, The President won't be happy until he's taken away all the freedoms that the citizens of this country enjoy. Fascism, are we living in Nazi occupied Poland? You know I heard he's banning flavored chewing tobacco, it's true because this guy says so. WARNING: explicit language. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%253A%...47d7&ref=nf
  16. If I was to go to Bryant where would you guys suggest? The only public access I found is Vera Cruz, I've been there before and wasn't impressed. I did like it's remote feeling but i couldn't find any bass there, only long-ears and greens.
  17. I've been using football heads for what I call a spot bait. I'll throw one next to a dock or piece of cover, let it sink to the bottom, then shake it. If I don't get bit I'll reel it in and throw to another spot. Seems to work better than a regular jig at this approach, I can get a little more movement out of shaking it than I would with a regular jig.
  18. Thanks guys, I'll check out my conservation atlas and see if I can find some of these spots. Does anyone know if I have to have a trout stamp even if I'm not fishing the trout areas? I would hate to drive all that way and have to come back because I didn't have one. Thanks again for the info, really appreciate it.
  19. Hey everyone, I have a question for all you fellas out there that know about this river. Ive heard good things about the smallmouth fishing on the upper portions of the North Fork and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me some info on it, like where to go, what to expect, etc.. I'm going on a little road trip this Sunday in order to relieve some of the pressure that school has put on me this semester and I've decided to head out there because I've never experienced this river and would really like to fish it. Any information I would greatly appreciate. Thanks. I should probably mention that I'll most likely be looking for places to wade.
  20. If i knew where you could find crappie on The James or The Finley, I would tell you. I don't fish for them sorry, most people don't want anyone catching their crappie because most guys keep them.
  21. Man, that looks just like a rock formation sitting in the Jack's Fork just up from alley spring. But if you say it's not, then I have no idea. Excellent spot, it may look too good.
  22. What is the actual process of gigging? I thought it was more sight orientated, not just throwing a hook out there and dragging it around until you hook a fish.
  23. You know it might be TurnBack because I've seen cottonmouths there and to my knowledge Turnback is one of the only streams around that has a resident population of cottonmouths. Of course they could have made their way to neighboring streams. But I have a professor that goes there to study them, I'll ask him if he knows what stream it is. Thanks.
  24. Hey guys, I have a friend that lives outside of Ash Grove on a little stream. I fish it from time to time and it's a good smallmouth stream, but I don't know the name of it. I thought it was The Sac but she thinks it's called something different. Does anyone know if the Sac Runs through of around Ash Grove? I've done a little research and have found nothing.
  25. I wish we had one in Springfield, be nice to give Johnny some competition, then maybe his floor help could actually call themselves help. Yours looks just like a pack which is what i really want but I don't know if I can afford it. I'll check out the one in Columbia, the next time I go. I go through there every 3 or 4 months so i hope the price stays the same. Thanks.
