Bridgeport resort in sturgeon bay...smallmouth, big pike and walleye to your hearts desire. Gorgeous views as well!

Trolling cranks for walleye can work in the wide range between 40-85degrees. Just have to adjust speeds and crank baits models. Right now with water temps around 73 degrees, shad style cranks such as the berkley flicker shad, storm smash shad and thunder crank, as well as bomber fat free shads can all be good. Speeds in the range of 1.7-2.5 can be about rule of thumb. Depth ranges of 15-30 foot deep. Lead core and snap weights allow you to get the bait down to the deeper depths. Don't be afraid to experiment with different crank baits! Bomber fat free was always a sleeper crank bait that I had used thoroughly on bull shoals and table rock for walleye. They like them. And a trolled depth of about 16-18 foot has been what I have experienced with 150 foot of line out at 2mph. I am using the fat free example as you can run to the local Wally World and they will have them. Good luck.

Last week at pb2, i took a couple of guys out and we had 3 limits. Only 1 dink off the bank. Started trolling for suspended fish 18 foot over 25-30 foot of water with planer boards. The limits were the best I have seen in a long time. Had several over 14 inches, and an average of 12.5inches. Nothing under 11. As of last week the eggs were real tight yet. However this was last Friday. If you don't find them on the banks pull off and check the creek channels as they are likely suspended.

I think I have about 150 flicker shads of different sizes. My favorite it the pearl ghost which is a scheels exclusive color. Fathead is a very close second. Pearl white is also hard to beat. Check out exclusive colors from cabelas, mills fleet farm, and scheels. Good stuff indeed!

Thanks Will, that time can't get here soon enough!

Lower Osage Walleye/sauger
rangerman replied to raildog's topic in Bagnell Dam Tailwater/Lower Osage River
Water temp-37.6 No generation except house turbine 2 short and one 20 inch eye along with a drum. Used 3/8 ounce glow fireball jig tipped with shiner, with water temps that cold all they would really do was mouth it. No jig action whatsoever. Just had to keep it right on the bottom. They were on the gravel at the edge of the current seam in 15 foot of water. Then the WIND came.... -

On my way to bagnell now, will post results later.... -
Yes, they are very good. I generally smoke a few and use the rest for making salmon patties. Once you get later in the season the condition of the fish definitely go down hill. Try to hit it early in the run for the better eating ones. I have always done best around the end of the 1st into the 2nd week of September. Try to avoid the zombie fish. 2nd week of January I may make a trip up ice fishing as well. Sturgeon bay is currently and officially ice covered. ;-)

Ranger To Build Aluminum Deep-V
rangerman replied to moguy1973's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Moguy, I see you hail from Kirkwood, I am about 30 minutes from you. The 2004 Ranger 621VS my father has is for sale. 225 Merc, 9.9 merc kicker, full windshield with enclosure. Lowrance HDS 10, $24,500. I would definitely spend the money on a used glass boat before I would be aluminum. I have seen guys in south Dakota with rivet guns working on their lunds and trackers. Not for me. Although I have to disagree with wrench the layout is pretty much standard with Aluminum Deep V's out there with the exception of the center rod box. Only seen that on larger boats.. Cant get the link to open so I am guessing he is seeing something I cant. -

thanks for the report..Nice pic as well. -
Absolutely not, be more than happy to answer your questions! Bass boat suitable...absolutely. Seen guys out in 14 foot boats. From Sawyer park in Sturgeon bay to the entrance to the shipping canal is no wake only. I am usually running at a high idle at 7 or so MPH and it doesn't take that long to get to the salmon bite location. Sturgeon bay and canal is fairly sheltered so you wouldn't have a problem what so ever. The smallmouth fishing throughout the canal is good this time of year. You can stand on the rock jetties and look down to see 3 and 4 pound smallies swimming around. Howies tackle in Sturgeon bay is the hook up for info and any tackle you may need. It takes me right at 9 hours to get there from 30 miles west of St. Louis and it is a simple drive. I44 to I55 to I39 to I43 all the way to Sturgeon Bay. Fish the salmon in the morning and the evenings and fish the smallies during the day. Or be gluttonous and eat all day at one of the many good restarants in the area before you go back out fishing. I may drive back up for a couple day in a week or so. If you want a vicious strike and run like no other, and jumps 5 foot out of the water, the kings are the ticket.

I tried trolling a bit, but could not stick to it. There were a couple of guys that caught a few trolling but nothing in comparison to what we were doing casting. We caught a total of around 20 fish and kept some for eating. It is definitely worth the trip. The run in the sturgeon bay starts about the 3rd week of August and ends around the middle of October. The fresh fish coming in from the lake are by far the most aggressive. Early mornings and evenings into the night are the best time to hook up. Kind of convenient as it leaves the rest of the day to do what you want.

These fish were all around the 25 pound mark. I lost a giant male which we tried netting a couple of times. Fought it for about 25-30 minutes. Figured it to be at the 30 pound mark. Started rolling at the boat and rolled the line around its beak which ultimately finely caused to break off.

Attached are a few pics from my annual trip to Sturgeon Bay. Last couple of years have been great. But this year we pegged some good quality fish. Casting and retrieving 800 series reef runners accounted for all the fish. Great trip and I would highly recommend it to anyone. If you go once it would not be your last trip...I promise you. No specialized tackle. I use my 7 foot medium action bottom bouncer rods with 15/4 stealth. These fish hit and run. average fight time is usually about 20 minutes. My 5 Year old caught a REALl nice smallie slipbobbering for perch which he was tickled with.

Gotta love RPS!!! My go to for Table Rock has always been a three way rig with a thunderstick in either blue/chrome or firetiger fished on the appropriate contour. Even in clear water firetiger has always worked well. 3 ounce bell sinker on a 10 inch or shorter dropper pulled at 1.2-1.5mph. Caught some big un's on the James River Arm doing it. Also caught them in the trees on the outside bends trolling pearl Bomber Fat Free Shads banging the limbs on the way through.

Yeah Ham she has been well taken care of...It is my pops boat. He has a 2013 in the same model parked right next to her. I thought about trading him for my 620VS but I love my boat to much. The boat is kept in a garage unless on the water. Been in many walleye waters across this nation and had never failed him. Motors are well kept and maintained with no probs whatsoever. The HDS was just put on last fall so it is practically new. He may be somewhat negotiable on price as he really wants to see it go to a "fishermans" home. I hate to think how many fish came over the gunnels of that boat and when it does go, it will definitely be missed. Lots of good big fish times in it.

If you put in at Diamond City, run down the lake towards Shoal Creek. There is a bluff on the north side of the lake before you get to Shoal Creek. Before the bank turns into a bluff it is a gravel point (uplake side). The gar have been stacked there in numbers the past few times I have been there.

Told you PD, those hook are the bomb.... Jeff you catch those fish around Horseshoe Bend?
