  1. vice versa. The bigger fly serves as an indicator and helps it roll.
  2. I especially like the helmet cam approach to filming that. Very nice. Thanks for the report.
  3. That's unbelievable!!!!!

  5. lol... that was fun. They sure turned on at the back of the boat that day. Who's rod was I fishing with though?
  6. Whatever it is it's still a nice bass. Thanks for sharing Dad.
  7. Never fails, when it gets cold, there is always some nice smallies in there. I have seen them in the past pushing 4-5 lbs. Glad you got into em.
  8. I agree, dropper rigs are very useful if fished right. You should be able to drop those flies in the right spot regardless of the situation. It is more challenging to do though.. but it can be done.
  9. Weight below the flies would probably keep them from tangling less, but your flies will be constanly pulled on a tight line even on a dead drift, so they are not being presented naturally. The weight is to help get the flies in the right feeding lane, but you want to keep them drifting and moving naturally with the movement of the current once in that lane. Long tippet helps with this too, not to mention spooking the fish less. Long tippet will help them sink faster because their is more slack line than with a short line after a good and correct mend. As a tip with tangling less droppers, open your loops up a bit and make sure your not making your foreward cast too soon.
  10. Congratulations Scott!
  11. That is one of the best crawfish patterns i have seen yet. I don't like my flies too realistic, just suggestive. Very good Jeremy, thanks. Matt
  12. wow. that was graphic.
  13. Dad, wasn't that custom ultralight that was stolen down at Meremac Spring Park a Charlie rod too?
  14. If you see us again be sure to say hi. I don't know about dad, but I'm going to wait until after Thankgiving until I go again sometime. Hopefully the water clarity will improve a little by then. Go ahead and yell across if ya have to! I would. Tight lines, Matt
  15. Good luck if you do go, the water was about a foot above normal (not bad) and pretty cloudy. This rain coming in isn't good news for water conditions as far as clarity and such. There is alot of the smaller fingerlings that we have been seeing this year, and the fish are scarce and spooky. There is some better ones in there though. Look in the good spots. Matt
  16. Good job cricket. That is one mean beak he has!
  17. Even though I just said a fast action, I agree about beginners and fast action rods. Come to think of it, the one I said I would like is in fact a medium-fast. My mistake.
  18. A good fast action 9ft 5wt will serve you well. TFO makes good rods, especially for the money. I would personally go with a St. Croix legend elite. It is very forgiving, and when loaded properly it's like a cannon. It will cost more than a TFO though.
  19. In the few times I have been down there I have seen bait in the outlets. We always try to as kindly as possible show them the sign that says the laws. People tend to get pretty defensive when you tell them they are breaking the law. Gotta try to choose your words carefully.
  20. Again thanks Dad, you showed me everything. I'm suprised this fish took, it was laying so dormant in that almost still water, but like we saw after watching for awhile, he was munching every once in awhile. A quick switch to 7X from 6X and he didn't know what hit em. hehehe
  21. Thanks, good to meet you too. We do work as a good team, we think the same and fish alike, and my wife always tells me the same thing about moving around. Thta's one reason why she doesn't come with me alot, move too fast, finding the select fish.
  22. Lol, he does take it easy on me sometimes. Don't let em fool ya, I hold my own when it comes to spotting and fishing it right. I spotted the biggest one. hehehe. Too bad he was real spooky and vanished at first chance. Thanks dad.
  23. At times it was tough fishing with the cloudiness, but we still got inot em. The length x girth calculation of weight was 4.6 lbs. Not bad, the other one we were gunning for was bigger. He decided to vanish into thin air though. darn.
  24. I agree, I feel comfortable with felt and will be reluctant to switch unless forced too. For traction it has to be hard to beat Chota's felt with cleats. What they need is 1 ft spikes to shoot out of your sole at the right moment for when you slip on one of those slick mud banks. I did that down at Taneycomo this year, my dad caught my arm just in time. Thanks Pop!
  25. Word of mouth is the water is high and cloudy, and moving fast. Visibility about a foot and getting flys down to the right spots is rough. Same report on quality of fish as this summer, small and low numbers. Hopefully it turns around.
