  1. While you're at Harter House, ask the butcher for some Tri-Tips. They'll roll it in either Garlic or Southwest seasoning for ya. Figure on 1 Tri-Tip for 2 people. Great the next day for sandwiches if you can't handle that much red meat at one meal. Cooking instructions are on the package, but I like to do em on the grill.(don't think Schooner Creek has ovens anyway?) Build a good, hot fire to one side, sear em over the coals on each side for about 5-10 minutes, then put em fat side up off the fire, and then close the lid and drink anywhere from 3-10 beers, depending on the thickness of the cut. (Usually anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 15) You want it to be medium rare in the middle. Let it set for a few minutes and then slice it just like a loaf of bread into 1/2" pieces. Great just like that, or on a dollar roll with a little Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce! The next day, take a leftover piece, wrap it in a wet paper towel and microwave it for 30 seconds or so. Cheaper per pound than most steaks and every bit as good or better!
  2. You might try Schooner Creek Resort. http://www.schoonercreekresort.com/ Hard to beat for location. Dock is in a no-wake cove. Bill Beck lives right next door to Schooner Creek Resort and is a very good guide. http://www.tablerockguideservice.com/
  3. Man, those are awesome fish! However, I noticed on both pictures that I see elbows? Apparently, you guys don't know that when holding a fish up for a picture you need to keep the arms straight out in front of you.
  4. Tough one! I'd have to say workin the redfin at dawn, slight ripple on the water and fish bustin all around me! But, the most reliable and most productive for me has been the Gr Pumpkin Fish DR on 6 lb line. Hearing that drag whine while bringing in a 4 lb + smallie is still a thrill!
  5. The smallmouth have been unbelivable for the past 3 or 4 weeks. Find any pea gravel flats and points that roll off into deeper water. I've caught em from Mill Creek on up to the dam. Be on the water before dawn and sit in about 20-25 and cast in to the edge of the bushes and work the bait out to the boat. I've caught em on baby brush hogs, tubes, Fish Dr's, chompers and shaky heads. Stick with green pumpkin, watermelon candy or green pumpkin/red. I like to dip the tails in chartreuse dye. 6 or 8 lb line on a good spinning rig with smooth drag is a must. Also, work a FB jig with a chompers twin tail or Eakin's jig with a speed craw in same places, or even out a bit deeper if it's sunny. Not sure how long this bite is going to last, though, with the water dropping and the temps rising? Should be about time for some good Kentucks on the drop shot and spoon, but been havin too much fun with the brown fish to try it.
  6. Here's 2 of the better ones I caught this weekend. One was on a baby brush hog on a rig, and the other on a FB jig. Both were just outside the bushes in about 10-12 FOW.
  7. I hadn't heard or seen the picture of the guy running aground when I posted my story about Biffle. If he hadn't pulled up when he did, he would have either run right into a grove of trees, or turned my boat into PT 109! I filed a complaint with the Tournament Director of the PAA. I am also sending a complaint to the Corps.
  8. Tommy Biffle is a complete AZZHole! Around 6:30 Am on Saturday,I was fishing with my Son on the North Side of the small "cut-thru" created by the high water on Pt 7. Not more than a long cast away on the South side of the opening another guy was fishing with his small Son. Here comes Biffle in his Larew's special running full-out headed for the opening. At the last minute, he realized there were 2 boats in front of him, swerved and almost ran ashore, cut back the engine and proceeded right through the opening less than a boat length in front of us! I threw up my hands and said, "What the hell"? He mumbled something like, "I thought you were fishing over there" I yelled out "BULLSH>T" to him, he turned around, gunned it and ran down towards Schooner Creek. No apology, nothing! I have NEVER in my 40+ years of fishing Table Rock or any Lake, seen anything so outrageous! He could have gone around PT 7, but by cutting through he maybe saved 20 seconds? Instead, he nearly caused a terrible accident, and wrecked the fishing for 2 boats.
  9. We used to throw the old FAT GITZIT. Basically, it was 2 tubes melted together head-to-head on a jig head. The jig head was similar to a FB head. I made up a few recently, but haven't used them yet. I took 2 tubes, snipped off the heads and melted them together with a Bic lighter. Then feed the tubes up the hook and push open end up snug to the jug. The tentacles on the front act like a skirt and the back tentacles are the tail. Looks pretty cool! You can even mix colors. I made up some with gr. pumpkin and watermelon.
  10. "Intelligent Guessing"? Isn't that the same as fishing the Rock?
  11. Very interesting video, once you get past the Riverfest commercial at the beginning. I think I know that guy in the commercial? Seen him in a flat-bottom Mon-Ark with a 9.9 HP Evinrude, drinkin Falstaff cans from a foam cooler and throwin a Lucky 13 and a Jitterbug! No, wait, that was me 40 years ago! http://www.katv.com/video?clipId=5831394&topVideoCatNo=189702&autoStart=true
  12. I never did pull out the F&F this weekend! Was going to, but was havin too much fun with the rig and jig. Plus, with the wind, it would be a nightmare trying to cast or get a snag out of the tree and bush line! I ain't that good with it yet! My nephew uses it down on Dale Hollow and Reelfoot this time of year. He cuts the leader down to 6-8' and drags it and shakes it over spawning areas on a slow retrieve. He claims the smallies will eat it up.
  13. We DID fish the clearer water from Hoot Owl Point and Fisher Creek up to Pt 7 and up towards the dam about 2 or 3 miles. On Sunday, the wind and boat traffic really muddied up the water, though. Had to go on the east side of 13 bridge to find the clear stuff.
  14. My Son and I fished from 10 AM - 3 PM Saturday and again from 10 AM - 1PM Sunday. We had a blast catchin smallies! Probably 40+ all together with around 10 keepers. No monsters, but several 3 lber's. Caught most of them on a green pumpkin Fish DR and a watermelon candy baby brush hog on a split shot rig, and some on a 3/8 Eakins jig w/twin tail green pumpkin/purple Chompers. They were in pea gravel pockets off main lake and secondary points. Smaller ones were back in the bushes, but the keepers were on or just outside the deepest trees or bushes in 12-18'. Tried fishing a little deeper hoping the big girls were out there, but the wind was pushing them up, I think? Sunday, the wind really was whippin up at noon, and we wanted to try some spinner baits and grubs, but needed to get back to the house for Mother's Day. Fun day with my boy!
  15. Ditto! In 2008, I remember nailin the smallies on a grub pitched to the outside of the floded treeline and slowly retrieved back to the boat.
  16. Gonna give it a try this weekend and was wondering if the Float n Fly might be worth a try? Since the old shoreline is in about 15' of water, maybe dangling that thing with a 10-12' leader would get some action? I know down at Dale Hollow, they use it during the Spring for big smallies.
  17. I'm no expert, but tornadoes usually have a "tail", don't they?
  18. Here are some pics from the dock damage up in Fisher Creek, just a few hundred yards from Ahoy's and Kimberlng Inn.
  19. I hope you released him! I have been secretly putting those transmitters on these fish in an attempt to get free Lake-wide Wi-Fi and cellular phone service for everyone! Kinda gives a whole new meaning to "hot spot"?
  20. I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs: if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up; she goes out with the girls a lot. I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I usually fall asleep. Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the bass boat. When she came home she got out of someone's car, buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment, crouched behind the boat, that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket. Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace it?
  21. Don't blame Big Cedar! Blame the Corps and guys like Swanson who own the public marinas! That's the deal they cut. Private Marinas at resorts are not allowed to sell gas to the public. Some will in an emergency, but I had it happen to me back at Sleepy Hollow Resort many years ago. They are also not supposed to rent watercraft to anyone other than resort guests. Been that way for years!
  22. Wai until after Memorial Day! Then you will see a lot of loons!
  23. I'd fish both sides of all 6 points on the North side of the lake between Fisher and Mill Creek Ramp. (FB jig) And try the gravel pockets on both sides of Pt 7 for smallies. (Fish Doctor split-shot rig) If the wind's up, throw the grub on the long flat points including Pt 7 heading towards the dam. Should be a good week!
  24. Fished Kimberling area Saturday from 7 AM to 10 AM and again from 6 PM to dark. Had 6 bites, 5 keeper LM and one short SM. Caught 4 LM off one main lake point in about 15 minutes from 9:30-9:45 on a Fish Doctor rig in 10'. I'd guess the 4 weighed right around 15 lbs. Biggest was 4.4, and the rest were slightly smaller. Funny thing is, I came up on the point after watching 2 guys throwing jigs all over it, so I decided to try something different. Seems a bit early for the rig, but someone forgot to tell the fish. Second cast in the evening got absolutely hammered by a LM that came in at 5.8. Got him on a FB jig in 18' on a timbered main lake point.
  25. I saw Beck throwing the FB jig on Saturday in the solo event. Looked he was workin it on bluff ends and deep on main lake points?
