  1. Judging by the background in this pic, you weren't kidding when you say you caught em on the gravel!
  2. Table Rock giveth, and Table Rock taketh away! But, mostly, She Giveth! I say "She" because only a woman could be so ornery, yet so darn beautiful!
  3. Oh, sure! That takes absolutely no imagination, and totally takes all the fun out of this thread!
  4. On a related topic, my old Suburban would get rust and flaking paint on the receiver and the plate that surrounds and hangs below the receiver, and has the 2 holes to hang your safety chains. I wire-brushed it, and got most of the paint off, and then sprayed it with truck bed-liner. Don't remember the brand, but it stayed on there for 3 or 4 years and was still good when I sold it last year. stuff newspaper or an old rag INSIDE of the receiver as you are spraying, or it will screw up the fit for your trailer ball assembly. Also, spread some grease on the inside of your receiver and on the shaft of your trailer ball assembly and working it around in there by sticking it in all the way, and then back out a few times. (oh, boy! now we have 'shaft' and 'stickin it in all the way' on this thread!)
  5. should work? works on a BBQ grill grate!
  6. Also, make sure that you check up under the cap on the tongue! I usually rub some vaseline or grease up under there. (just think? If some pervert googles the keywords 'balls', 'tongue' and 'vaseline', he could be our newest OAF member?)
  7. Remember them well! My Stratos is a '93 that replaced an '88. I remember transferring all of my old plastics into the new one in 1993. May still have a bag of them somewhere in the bottom of a storage compartment? How about the old motor-oil or brown worm? Maybe at the next OAF event, we should have a separate category for biggest bass caught on a bait that's older than Jordan Spieth?
  8. Babler was right! You never even fired up the big motor! Just have Leon stand on the dock with a decent zoom lens and you could have posted the same pictures?
  9. Right now, as I head out to fish through Sunday: Wind-blown 1.Grub 2. Spinner bait 3.Jerkbait 4.Wart 5.Ned 1/8 oz Slight ripple or calm 1.Redfin-early or cloudy 2.splitshot rig with Fish Doctor 3. Ned 1/16 oz 4.Wobblehead with Baby brush hog, twintail chompers or beaver 5. Fluke
  10. It's amazing how an accidental apostrophe in a topic title can make a dirty old man out of a good Christian boy like me?
  11. a 5" Chompers twin-tail Grub has worked for me on the wobblehead. (I like the Gr Pumpkin/Purple Flake) Don't be afraid to pitch it right up against a bluff wall or a steep cut or pocket. Particularly a bluff end or cut adjacent to a mixed rock or pea gravel area. After it falls, and you feel it hit the first level, then, as Bill said, just slowly wind it back to the boat and let it bounce along the shelves. With the goofy weather lately, and especially if they're pulling the lake down, those bluffs are a nice little hangout for the pre-spawners.
  12. If you plan on being in the kayak when you practice tipping it over, I might add full-body wetsuit to the list of necessities? Surface temps right now are in the 50's at best. That particular kayak is actually pretty stable, even in rough water. At first, it 'feels' like you're going to tip if you breathe wrong, but you'll get used to it.
  13. We have 2 kayaks, and the wife and I love to take them out and give my big ole Johnson a rest. (The 200 HP one on my bass boat) Fishing from one is fun, but can be challenging? Boat control is the toughest thing for me, especially with some wind or boat wakes. Do they make power poles for kayaks? I keep a 100' of small diameter paracord on one of those H-type reels. I thread it through a small cleat I riveted on the kayak, and then I'll loop it around some standing timber if there is some around, and then adjust as needed as I move along a spot. I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen guys use those nylon bags as kind of a drift sock, to slow you down, or you can fill them with rocks to use as an anchor? I have 2 rodholders mounted on the back, and they are a must! I also carry a big golf umbrella that I store inside the kayak alongside the seat. If you need to, you can stick the handle in a rod holder, and adjust it to keep the sun or rain off of you as you paddle. If you get some wind, you can use the umbrella as a sail. (not kidding, it really works!) hold the open umbrella in one hand, and with the other hand, use the paddle as a rudder. Other things to definitely have on board would be a big sponge, a dry box for your camera, phone, band-aids, etc. and maybe a pee bottle? (tough to stand up on most kayaks)
  14. With the real murky water, you might try dipping the tails in chartreuse on any of your plastics? Brush hog, lizard, or big craw. In the past, I've had some success pegging a large plastic worm (anybody remember those?) Just throw it in the crap and let it sink down between the wood and debris. A 10 or 12" worm like you would use at night. My favorite for this method was the old red/black Culprit.
  15. I remember a Spring several years ago, my Dad and my Brother-in-Law and I fished all morning without even a whiff! It was getting cloudy and rain was threatening. They decided to take a nap, so I went back out by myself. The year before, Bill Beck had showed me how to 'bulge' a spinner bait just under the surface. I took a white, double silver willow blade and proceeded to catch what was probably my best bag ever? Went back in Schooner, and in about 45 minutes I hauled in 7 LM. Had 3 over 5#, biggest was 7+ and the other 4 were in the 4# range. They were just all over that thing, and I saw every one of them come out of a tree or laydown. No camera with me, and didn't want to mess with filling the livewell. To this day, my Dad and Brother-in-Law still don't believe me!
  16. MOBass-sent you a PM regarding your fish finder connection
  17. Nice Bass! Also, your partner looks familiar?
  18. That's silly! There is only one way to rig the PB & J, and that is PB side UP! Definitely much better hook-ups that way, because they hold it longer! Because, as we all know, peanut butter always sticks to the roof of the mouth!
  19. Judging by the water line and the corrosion, I don't think that boat has lived much of it's life on that lift, or any lift? I think that's the boat that the guy just caught the 140 lb paddlefish from. Maybe the paddlefish rammed the side trying to knock the boat over?
  20. Well, this kid just won't listen to me at all! I told him it was too early to try the Fish Doctor. So, he ties it on and boats this smallie?
  21. Fog was unbelievable this morning! We decided to go out at 7:30 AM anyway, and just put down the trolling motor and worked the shoreline next to the dock. Water was dead slick, but my Son obviously didn't know that a jerkbait won't work on slick water? So, third cast with his new friend, McStick, he nails this LM. Me, with the Megabass? Nothing! 2 days in row he outfishes me! So, I watched him retrieve the JB, and he was doing it all wrong! Instead of pausing after after the jerk, jerk, twitch, he would continue to reel slowly for 3 or 4 turns of the handle, and then repeat the cadence. bait never stopped or paused.
  22. just a wisp of wind first thing this AM. He caught all 3 fish in his first 6 or 8 casts of the day. main lake point, boat sitting in 25-30'
  23. also saw this waterfall on some bluffs up the James. Unfortunately, we didn't see many fish up the James http://youtu.be/jl0U9I8QEoU
  24. My Son caught these 3 nice ones this morning on a McStick. First time he's ever fished a jerkbait. I got nothing on my mega-dollar megabass?
  25. Pete Wenners report this week was interesting. http://www.hookedonbass.com/FISHREPORT.htm He said he likes to find spots where the muddy water meets the clear water. I had sorta forgotten about that trick? Used to be a good tactic when I fished LOZ a lot back in the old days! He also said the water may come up some more and we may see some flooded bushes?
