  1. You know, this reminds me of when I was a little kid. The local store called Roy & Ray's Pic-n-Pay closed, then reopened as just Pic-n-Pay. For the grand reopening, they had sodas and ice cream half price all day long. For two weeks, I was saving every bit of allowance, I sold my GI Joe to my kid brother for $3.00, and I scoured the local church parking lot for coins. I had so much fun with that! My friends and I rode up to that store and spent half of our money that morning, drank our sodas and rode around until the afternoon. Then we went back and spent the rest of it on ice cream and sat in front of the store in the shade and ate it all. This is kinda like that. I'm just chompin' at the bit for Saturday. I've made a list of stuff to buy and I'm going with some of my friends. Heck, we may even go twice!
  2. Got my flies yesterday. They look good, guys. Sorry for the delays, but it turned out well. I'm impressed with what you guys can do!

    I tried. He's dead.

Yep. The swamp white oak (right side photo) gave it away.
  5. I use Hook & Hackle. They have Mustad hooks in 100 count packages.
  6. It's OK, Phil. I got the impression this was a monster tourney with LOTS of boats. Fifty isn't a lot. Mary at Cooper Creek told me I should just stay home because it was going to be too crowded. I was planning to bring my two kids and fish from the dock and she gave me the impression we'd all get seasick from the high speed traffic. I guess she just didn't want my business. I was going to call you and see if your dock would be busy, but your room availability shows you're almost booked full. I've got to get there eventually - I need more swimmin' minnows! I hope this doesn't turn into another "I hate tournaments" thread. I just wanted to know if there was a tourney on the lake tomorrow. The answer is yes, but not a big one. Subject closed (I hope).
  7. I watched the mail carrier pick up the package and walk out the door with it. I hope you see the flies at your place by Monday/Tuesday.
  8. I heard a rumor about a tournament tomorrow. Anyone know the details? Nothing worse than trying to fish with all of those guys zipping around all day.
  9. I'm certain this qualifies you for some sort of mental disturbance not covered by standard health insurance. You show an obvious disregard for the standards and customs of the fly fishing society with the express purpose of self satisfaction regardless of the reaction - whether positive or negative - from your peers. Ducky, I'm not trying to be judgemental here, but your nuts. We should be friends!
  10. DOH! I take a sick day and my whole world goes kaplooey. I should try reading through all of the posts before I comment.
  11. What happened to the skins? I opened the site this morning and it had the papyrus skin, but I came back at lunch and it is back to the generic look. I don't have the skins options down in the bottom left of the page anymore either. What's up?
  12. I just got back in the office after a bout with the flu. My receptionist didn't mail my flies. If you want to go ahead without me, I understand. Otherwise, PM me and I'll get them sent today.
  13. I miss this board immensely, but I've been busy. I got promoted a couple of months ago, but then my coworker/mentor up and quit to go to work for a major competitor. This has made my life very difficult. The net result is that I have no time for posting or even fishing, for that matter. I'll continue to check in from time to time, though. Boy, I miss you guys.
  14. I just got my own flies back in the mail today. No explanation was given and no clues as to why, except for a strange tread-like mark on the envelope. I'll repackage and send them in the morning.
  15. Thanks, oneshot. Is there a fee to fish there? Some of these areas will only allow paying guests to fish.
  16. I've heard about Barclay before, but I've never fished there. Heck, I don't even know where it is or how to get there. Could somebody fill me in?
  17. For Bennett, I'd probably tie some #16, 18 renegades, #12, #14 cracklebacks in several colors, Hare's ear nymphs in several sizes, red pheasant tail nymphs, lots of sizes, and for those times when they just won't hit anything, I'd have some peach glo balls on hand. For my personal favorite on Bennett or Taneycomo I'd recommend soft hackles in yellow, orange, olive, brown, maybe black and cream. Oh, and griffith's gnats.
  18. Mine will be on the way tomorrow.
  19. Amen.
  20. If you're into panfish, it's a great little lake. The H.P. limit is 40 horses and you have to register your boat every year. It isn't expensive, it just has to be done. There are bass in there, they are just difficult to find. There's muskies in there, too. I've never caught them, but I've seen them cruising around. I like fishing there. It's a short drive and there are crappie and 'gills all over the place.
  21. "There is a conventional wisdom that says ecosystems are fragile...conventional wisdom...is not always wise." -Bruce Jenkins, Northern Dynasty. What a Schmendrick. By the way, Northern Dynasty is a Canadian/U.S. company. They mine gold, copper, and molybdenum. Molybdenum is used as an alloying agent in high tensile steel aircraft skins, and electronics. It's the main element they are after in the pebble mine area. I'd tell you to boycott them, but you'd have to go completely off the grid to do that.
  22. I have the silver label2 waders, not the tailwaters, but if they are all sized about the same, get 'em long. Mine are too short to sit down comfortably. That's all the review I can give you.
  23. I've kept up on this issue for a while, now. I'm really disappointed in the decision.
  24. What the- Wow!
  25. My dad just got an Abu Garcia combo, I think it's the u300. Real nice. As for me, I'm still using my Cardinal Quickfire from the mid '80s. I love that reel.
