  1. Quiet a nasty series of storms today. Just wishing everyone and their families a safe day, and hope you all made it out ok. We made it out ok, in-laws all made it out ok. A guy I work with lives in the subdivision behind Deirbergs at 30 and 141, their subdivision is messed up BAD. Houses all toren up, garage doors pushed in, ripped off, couple of cars and trucks overturned. Everyone was ok though.
  2. get one of those small dorm room fold up laundry hampers. they work excellent as a soft box diffuser. its kinda like the cowboy studio thing, just be careful with them. products can be touchy.
  3. This! I agree with you 100% there. My rods go from 7' to 9', and there isnt much difference in general, similar distance casting between the two. I'm actually thinking of picking up a SUPER short 3wt ( 5'-6") for backpacking into the mountains for those little streams.
  4. Do the frog toggs. they seem to last alittle longer. I have a used pair of Hodgemen's, they worked great at first, then after a couple years they started to get really brittle and develop leaks very very easily. I have patched two leaks, and there is now a 3rd, somewhere at the knee seem, I cant find it. So i fixed them with a pair of Simms Freestones
  5. I have an Alpha 3/4. One of the eariler designed reels. its very nice, I like it quiet a bit. I was very surprised by it, very light, small and the quality of the build is fantastic!! Finish is a bright polished aluminum, very happy with it. Drag works well, I had some stocker trout on it couple weekends ago and it handled them just fine. I will say this though, even though the polished look is nice, I do kinda wish it was colored instead, like a dark green or burnt orange...something neat. oh i forgot to post the first time, the reel is also darn near silent, which i like VERY much.
  6. I got all my stuff from him in under a week after payment.
  7. Probably a toss up between the Greenback Cutthroats in CO or the big carp I have been getting into. they are such cool fish seeing them up close and personal.
  8. Hmm, so if i can get out to Busch, looks like i'll keep the 300mm lens on my SLR and get some evidence no one can ignore.
  9. you better take me out to some of those streams we spoke of next spring dude!!
  10. With the budget he had listed in the first post, he's not going to be able to get a DSLR and a worthwhile birding lens. He'd need to go closer to double or triple his buidget
  11. So my wife and I are going to house sit her Uncle's place on Table Rock this week, I had first planned to fish Tanney, then realized how close to RR we were going to be, and I've never been there so thats where I am headed. What should I expect? Is it pretty much like any typical MO trout park? Any sections of water better then others? I just want to catch a couple trout since catches this year have been low due to low fishing time.
  12. They also sell an adapter for about 30 bucks that will fit onto the end of most spotting scopes and telescopes that allow point and shoot digital cameras to connect to them. Cabelas has em for about 30 bucks.
  13. Excellent fish! I think I'm going to do a south western MO trout trip and Capps is on the list.
  14. its nice and simople, just looped yellow chenille to look like a corn clump.
  15. Gorgious fish!!
  16. Whats working good out there now? wolly buggers? mohair leeches? Think im gonna try to get some at Tiles this week durning lunch break
  17. nice shots. i really would like to get my hands on that lens
  18. its an "alright" lens. For most people it will be alright. it will probably suite you well. as far as which one to get, I would definitly go after the 10-135 IS package. extra batteries are super nice to have and a lens hood can be helpful. Plus a bag is cheap enough to buy, get one that you really like vs one that comes with it
  19. its pretty nice/fun. I need to fish montauk this year, its nice having the whole/most of the stream all to yourself.
  20. Right, both cameras will shoot HD video. Honestly its all really going to come down to your personal preferance. What feels better in your hands, do you want a bigger or smaller camera? Do you care about weight? How about weather sealing? neither are sealed THAT good but the D series is usually alittle tighter, making it harder for dirt to get inside. With that being said, i've had my rebel out in a light ran and in the freezing temps ( 15-20* )with snow falling and as long as i kept the batteries warm, I was good to go. I havent braved the 30D yet out into light rain, but it has been in snow and freezing temps and working just fine. With those teleophoto lenses, the IS version is leaps and bounds better then the non-IS version. I have the non-IS version and its a light hungry lense. if there isnt alot of sunlight, its very difficult to use. The IS version is alot better about making better use of the visible light so its worth the extra money IMO
  21. Yeah, the hole might be baited by someone else, but it definitly isnt me. I always cast to the ones tailing, then they just assemble in a big group so I go to where the fish are haha. I THINK that rod is a Triumph. i cant remember right now, but Im almost positive it is. I like it. I snagged it at Cabelas a year or 2 ago, they had em on year end clearance for half price, think I paid 70 bucks or something for it. I have no arguements with it at all. I actually liked it so much i bought a 5wt version of it too. It has good action, loads easily and casts nice enough. My only real gripe about it is that with the Sage 1680 on it, its a heavy combo. wears on the arm quiet a bit for a whole day of fishing.
  22. No, the 60D just came out a couple weeks ago. Its brand new camera. Has a tilt screen LCD on the back and all kinds of other nifty things. You cant really go wrong with the T2i cameras. My buddy has a T1i and he loves it. It take nice pictures and works for what he needs. I prefer the bigger bodied cameras, ( I shoot with a 30D ) but thats me personally. I would go with the Rebel, it has more trinkets with it, that MOST everyday use people will want/or need. I have no need for video which is why I went with the D series body. The glass is going to be the biggest factor of your camera. The 18-55 KIT lens is ok, but if you can, buy just the body and the 70-300 IS if you want it, and then go shop around for a Tamron 17-50 or the Canon's similar range lens ( im having a huge brain fart on what it is right now )The kit lens will work but there are much better lenses out there for not all THAT much more money. I love the tammy 17-50, one of the best purchases I have made for my camera. I use it for pretty much everything, landscapes, weddings, general around people etc etc. Its on my camera probably 90% of the time i use it.
  23. Its my corn fly really simple pattern out of yellow chenille looped. I threw a crayfish pattern to them for 4-5 casts, but they here the water splashing and they all come swimming up looking for something, switch to the corn and bam! carp on! ( that is once the bluegill all get tired of trying to eat it )
  24. Sunday, I took the dog for a walk in the park, our usual weekend nonsense. Went down by my favorite carp spot, they were all swimming around tailing, feeding, driving me nuts. So, finish walking the dog, get home and ask my wife if I can help clean the house, or if I can go fishing right quick. She is good to me, this was the result. Good way to spend my halloween morning. First carp on the new 8wt setup, handled it wonderfully, exactly how i wanted it to be and much better then my 5wt, granted this fish was MUCH thinner then the first one I caught on the 5.. Still, it made me happy.
  25. Awesome!!! Glad she won!
