  1. the key with fly fishing for them is when they are tailing, cast in the direction they are going, and when the fly hits the ground let it sit...as they get closer do a slight twitch so some dust is made, they will come check out what has made the duct puff, and if it looks like a craydad or leech they suck it up. i also have a couple of corn patterns that the fish will just freely eat, even without being chummed.
  2. those little guys are perfect aquarium size. i was working to do this but trout dont make the best aquarium fishes. i really want to go out there someday.
  3. if you havent gotten any yet, cabela's has all theirs on sale. i was there last night. Got some Rio Streamline Trout for 29 bucks instead of 60. Plan to test it out today
  4. what a nice fish!! Did the question of it being released ever get answered?
  5. i agree. Big headed bass are a sign of a stunted fish population. if you are catching fish with big heads and 5-6 pounds then you are prolley missing out on 10 pounders in that pond. you should really start to cull some of them
  6. i wonder how much of that is nerves reacting?
  7. ah ok, well maybe i will wait it out then. I will be up there eventually, i did some site to store shiping so i gotta go pick my stuff up when it comes in, plus get some more things.
  8. hmm looks like i'll have to go up to mine this weekend then
  9. Anything St. Criox makes. Something in a 5wt. I plan to pick up a new St. Croix Imperial it is, 7' 4 piece 3 weight i want a new trout rod, my 7'-6" 3 wt is only a two piece and makes it hard to get in with some places i fish and they dont make a 2 weight in that size. that being said, i like to use REALLY light tackle for stuff, however i think a 5 wt is a great first rod, thats what i had at first.
  10. definitly gonna have to try this one out. Sure is simple.
  11. he came out of a creek that has alot of strom drainage into. so im sure the water quality isnt the greatest but there are alot of fish living in there. the water was alittle stained, not as clear as usual when i caught him.
  12. Rod is a 4 piece St. Croix. They are about fly rod that i REALLY prefer to use. Plus they are priced excellent as well. My dad has one of them fancy Orvis rods ( that he never uses haha ) and i honestly like my St Croix's better. I never posted this here but i'll go ahead to add it. i was assuming the weight of 8-10 pounds of how he felt when i was holding him, all pumped and full of adreniline, well i ran one of those genaric fish weight calcs on it....he was more like 14-17 pounds with that so yeah...definitly a HUGE testiment to the rod, however that will be its first and last carp. and i uploaded one fo the videos i took, enjoy it...
  13. While i dont really think barbless hooks should be required, we should be like CO and its parking, pushing a strong to RECOMMEND using a barbless hook. Its better for the fishes this way

    couple more...fishes to come later
  15. what two of my boxes, still 2 others i have, one with sub surface stuff thats small, and one with jigs. also have a box with bass and carp flies, box of saltwater, box of salmon, and a couple of classic atlantic salmon flies in shadow boxes on displays.
  16. i usually use a 20 or 22. smallest ive tied too was a 32 and my vice kept popping the hooks
  17. i usually fish sub surface in the C&R season. if you get out there now, when the water and air is still warmish, you can prolley get some dry fly action. griffiths gnat will usually work all year round though, but when the water starts to cool more the trout tend to sit closer to the bottom. last year i went a couple 2-3 times i think, eagles are all over the park, which is cool. The one time we went we slayed em, i bet we caught close to 20 fish. the next time was much slower, only catching maybe 5. i plan to try to get out there sometimes this winter though
  18. sounds like fun haha...O_o
  19. present physically
  20. i'll give it a shot. i usually just wade in those types of streams in sandals, unless its cold water. i have some sticky rubber soles on my simms boots and they seem to work pretty well. Guess come spring time when it warms back up i will give it a shot.
  21. So my father in law brought over a newspaper story the other day about smallie fishing in Marble creek, which feeds into the St. francis river, just outside of ironton. Anyway, said its a good stream to wade up and fly fish. So i think were gonna try it one of these days, just seeing if anyone else has done it

mummy mountian on our attempt to make it to lawn lake, which didnt happen i have more, just need to upload them, including the pictures of the fish, only one i didnt get a shot of was my rainbow
  23. I never got around to posting the pictures from my trip fishing to Estes Park, CO. Was a good trip, nice to go back out west. we got snowed on though, which really put a damper on fishing. I did catch my grand slam, however i missed so many fish it wasnt even funny. Anyway, i will let the pictures talk, they will sum up the trip, and i will post more when i get home this picture is printed and everywhere i am, i love it.
  24. i respectfully disagree. i am extremely happy with the vibram streamtread soles on my Simms boats. wore then the whole trip to colorado this year and they preformed wonderfully.
  25. I used to write back and forth to dave ALOT. we exchanged stories, flies, drawings etc etc. i have a couple of hand written letters, original, colored pencil hand drawings on letters, envelopes, and even he sent me a hand tied whitlock sculpin, the VHS on how to tie it and autographed that for me too. He is a real stand up guy. I should write back to him this season and see what he is up too.
