  1. Well this was a lesson learned, the 5wt was NOT ENOUGH for this guy. i will have to upload the video i took of me fighting it. i wanted some sort of proof that i actually caught one incase i didnt land it haha. couple of times in the video you can see my fly rod bent almost into the water. i think that catching this one proves i really do a need to get my 8 wt going. i was worried several times the 5 wt was going to pop. the fight was incredible though, my right arm is still sore from battling it
  2. Finally got a carp on my fly rod. took a size 10 corn fly i tie. took every bit of half hour to land. 27" long, ~8-10 pounds, all on a 5 wt rod
  3. your missing the "m" in Stimulators on your recommended fly list.
  4. i thought the length was 3" and you could have 150 of them. its been a while since i checked though. i generally dont prefer to use live bait of any kind. the mortality rate of caught and released fish is higher since they often take the live bait deeper into the mouth and hooking can occur in the gills or throat, i dont like doing that
  5. everytime i go to a trout park i just wish i had a badge and could write tickets. there would eb so many fines going out to people it wouldnt even be funny. but hey if you arent gonna follow the rules then your gonna get it.
  6. baby shampoo works even better then soap. plus since its for babies it wont mess with the adhesive and make the vinyl turn colors, like how some peoples window tints turn purple, its the soap doing it.
  7. yeah its been almost 15 years since i have been to colorado. We went when i was 10ish and not into the things i am now. So this trip is going to be a heavily photographed and fished trip. im really excited about it actually. I just hope its not too cold out there cause i hate the cold weather.
  8. looks good. i'll be there in just about a month from now. im pretty excited
  9. 18/20 griffens gnat...always a safe bet for if they are hitting surface
  10. awesome.!! i still cant wait til i get one on the fly
  11. cool falls. where at? those look like ones my buddy took some shots of out in Indiana
  12. Didnt have much much with flies, i caught one on "the one", jon caught one on a mohair leech and an one on a elk hair caddis. other then that my gut fly was all i used and was catchin em plenty
  13. picture of said fish
  14. i needed to get a new pair of wading boots/shoes for a while now. My former basic wal-mart brand sandals were starting to fall apart and werent very comfortable. I would have bought another pair like this however it would appear they stopped carrying things like this for adult males. So i started looking at a REAL wading shoe/boot. With TU's big push to the new felt soled boots i too wanted to get something with no felt. This drops your picks down to a few. After much reading and reviews and such, i decided on the Simms Headwater with Stream tread boot. They are more expensive then their felt soled counter part at 150 bucks, but they are very well made. I can see these lasting quiet some time. They are INCREDIBLY light for a boot. The vibram sole is very comfortable ( if anyone wears merral shoes they will know ) and the streamtread pattern gripped very well. i was doing the testing at Bennett Springs, i walked on everything...just to see what they do and how they act. In the stream they gripped awesome. no lose of footing aside from my own lack of balance. The algae/mossy rocks they gripped well, did slide some but not nearly as bad as i was waiting for. The concrete slop they pore down the hills at trout parks it gripped REALLY good on...almost too good. The ankel support is very nice, i wore them all day long and my feet never hurt. the vibram sole is also nice because it completely eliminated the back pain/strain i usually get from standing/walking in the streams all day. only thing i would like about them more is that i wish the sole was alittle more flexible to better contour the rocks, but the grip was still maintained. overall...i would HIGHLY recommend these boots if you want a good light boot for fishing or hiking to your fishing spot and not wanting to change shoes.
  15. So i was at Bennett this weekend with my parents and buddy Jon. Was a pretty good weekend all in all. We didnt really keep track, i think friday i ended up with 5 or 6, saturday was a good day, finished off with 15-20 fish, somewhere in there, and sunday morning i caught 8-9 i guess it was. Was a kinda slow weekend for numbers of fish caught, we usually catch double that at the parks, but the water was kinda dingy. Big story of the trip though was the 19.5" brown trout i caught below the darn! i have pictures but will have to upload them when i get home.
  16. I fish for them all, well i fish for anything really, but i never keep any fish whatever it is. i cant stand how they taste
  17. whats it look like?
  18. hopefully not i used to be friends with the owners son.
  19. me and most my friends and family have kayaks. I use a sit in, my fiance uses a sit on. i like the sit ins better because i feel more in control. they are super easy to control and paddle with. where about are ya? if it cools down enough i can meet ya somewhere with an extra kayak and let ya tool around in it
  20. my buddy jon bought the ext cab version of that truck a couple months ago. he seems to enjoy it. i will say this, they are selling trucks so cheap right now. i got an AMAZING deal on my 06 sierra this year.
  21. good to know. good to know. well, lets ad that fish to the list
  22. this was my first attempt at tying them. and one of my first times tying with foam. i guess im kinda an older material guy. when i got started the only thing made from foam were ants and chernobyl ants. and we never really tied a bunch of them. they turned out alright for the first batch, i need to use a different hook though i think. if you still want to trade lemme know, i can tie pretty much anything. i can say this though, they sure as heck look like mullberrys, im sure they will work good, now only if i can find more carp and it would stop raining i'd be good to go
  23. thing im more worried about is after they are tangled in the teeth, how the heck do i get em off haha
  24. they are a piece of 3 or 4" pvc, with a screw cap on the bottom, and a 90* elbow on the top. thats the construction of them. not sure what the sign-age is 100% on them. they have a couple at montauk too
