This used to be an easy site to upload photos I don't know if they loaded or not. Well anyway my assessment of the TRD neds that let you skip the cutting of the Zinker Z IMHO are a flop. Hardly any salt, plastic is very hard and can never replicate that super soft feel you get from the traditional Ned also the shape is odd, with these 2 changes they have fundamentally got it wrong. The Z Tech hooks on the other hand are very well made. They were easier to thread than I thought they would be , the heavy wireguard can easily be split and trimmed to a more finesse thickness and also you can completely bend the wireguard out of the way for threading and it will stay put, after threading just bend it back to its normal position, BUT YOU STILL NEED THE GEL SUPERGLUE........

Every one was stuck with your Jigheads. Credit where credit is due.........Roger

Got out yesterday fished around Indian Point with the Ned in the wind. Probably caught at least 30 Smalljaws most were dinks but had a couple of keeps too including this nice 19". Helluva fight on 6 lb. fluoro ( good old red label Seaguar, cheap and soft enough to hold a knot). Really made my day. Everything was coughing up the tiny 1 1/2 shad fry. It's really fun sticking a big smallie on light tackle, you really have to concentrate on what you're doing during the fight. It's like the Smallmouth have just run the LM and Spots outa town. BTW cranks and Sbaits were a big zero. IMG_0611.MOV IMG_0609.MOV

Lew's Tourney pro's all the way for baitcasters and Pflueger Mg. Supreme for spinning. Best bang for the buck, big discounts everyday on ebay. There was a time when every reel I owned was a Shimano but they just don't stack up in the "bang for the buck" category anymore.....

A little late report but conditions are the same. Grabbed the box of little rigs and threw our fortunes to the wind (literally). Cold, windy with gusts and changes.Got a little wet on the main lake ride, pulled up on gravel banks drifting with the wind. I had my doubts about the fish tracking down the rigs in the nasty conditions but the Smallies and Kentuckys did just fine. Caught about 30 with 7 being keeps (3 k's 4 SM). Most everything was in 8-10 ft. water, we were throwing from 15-20 ft. out. No more green craw just PB&J all the way. Great 5 hrs of fishing but we earned them. Any points we drifted were especially good.

And he fishes out of an Xpress; gotta love this guy.

You will need to take your titles and registration info to the closest state license office. You said they are already registered in Mo. If so they usually give give you tag #'s and plates and motor stickers at that time. Mo. Residents must provide personal property tax receipts, being out of state I don't know how that will affect you.

Been rough. My only consistent play has been to fish windy coves with a Ned. If you're not a nedaholic the wind may give ya fits. 1/16 only, they didn't like the fall on the simpler to use 1/8 oz.

The volume of large boat and PWC's is terrible. Thanks to big "improvements" @ Cape Fair wake board boats are now way up from pt. 15 and into Flat creek and the upper James. I went last wed. to the main lake by Indian and literally got chased off the lake. Unsupervised kids on 140hp jetski's ran across my bow to many times to count. None of them were looking anywhere but straight ahead, had I not done corrections two of them would have been speared. I thought foul weather would have slowed things down but boy was I wrong. Then you have the rental pontoon's that will swing tight to save 50 cents worth of gas and wave at you while you're being swamped. As a group of anglers we should be concerned about the situation because @ this rate it'll be unfishable in 5 yrs. Why can't the corp make the river and creek arms off limits to wake board boats and cruisers. Hell with the rollers they throw you would think the corp. would be concerned about erosion and dock damage. Until we can band together and make some political inroads the monied interests that want only continued expansion are gonna win the day. At this point my advice for a new to tablerock visitor would be to stay home...............

Weather was iffy Tues. but I took a chance. Pretty windy, I really earned these fish. Landed 13 Crappie and a 3 lb. White. Big news was 7 of the Crappie were between 13-15 inches with big thick girths. Lost a couple more monsters at the boat cuz I left my net at home (however if I had brought the net I probably would have been blanked). Don't hang up your fly rod with trout season. There's a window of opportunity in the spring when it is the tool of choice for white bass and crappie. I make my own jigs on Matzuo black nickel hooks (well worth the effort),store bought fly rod jigs are all pretty useless.Weak points, wire that straightens and rust prone. They work ok with trout but won't cut it for big boy fishing. I've enclosed a pic of the colors. They were stationed on isolated wind blown banks. Only caught one dink the whole day kinda supports the theory that larger fish tend to hang together. Water temp was 58 so it's still early. I'm glad to see there is still a large year class of big fish.

It took me a while to understand the texture change that occurs as you fish the rig. As all of that salt pours out of the elastatec a honeycombed body is left that is softer than any "plastic". The rig quivers without any angler input. To maximize this I use as short of a shank hook as possible. The matzou sickles have a short shank in comparison to gap. I feel this is the reason the bait becomes more effective the longer it is fished. The smallies in rivers go nuts over it and has replaced the Gitzit tubes which for me were always the gold standard for streams.

Well its a 1/16 ball head that I placed in a vise and tap flat with a hammer. I then powder coat which adds alot of strength after I cure them in the oven. Having removed the lead barb leaving the shank bare I put on a ribbed body of fly tying lead wire and cover with epoxy. The ribbed lead wire greatly helps prevent the twisting and doubling over which these baits are prone to. I took a chance last year and started to learn how to fish the Ned. It will make you the most deadly of finesse angler. Fishing a drop off the channel near Indian last yr. I landed a 5.5 lb LM only to be followed by a 26" Walleye. Success like that will make you go to great lengths to get everything right.......Roger. The hooks I like are the #4 Matzuo Black Nickel Sickle. I also use Black Nickle Sickles on A rigs, they will bend under extreme pull allowing you to get the rig back. They are inexpensive whether you buy them poured on ebay or as I do buy the hooks and pour your own.

Looks like Gopher tackle didn't renew their domain name. http://www.gophertackle.com/ reveals an ad site for domain names. Just when I was going to give a try of their 1/16 oz mushrooms, other wise I'll be forced to make my own again which work well but are labor intensive although it does allow me to use those wicked sharp black nickel Matzuo's. Hopefully they will get it straightened out.

Low hrs rated for up to 300 hp. Was on a 115 etec Evinrude that I bought. Six inch setback. I installed a jet drive so I no longer need it. Retail $895 plus tax/shipping. I'm letting it go for $250 cash. Includes power switch and wiring. My pic files are too big to load but I have photos I can email.......Roger@ whitebass11@gmail.com

In the past 3 wks. I've had 2 days of 25+ fish on topwater and 4 days of 20+ on grubs including a bonus 25" walleye........Folks this can be a real hard lake to fish and most of the time at least with me the Rock comes out on top but this year has been something special, plus I caught all of these fish in what I consider to be the most heavily pressured part of the lake. And what about the Smallies??? I have never seen so many on table rock in 20 yrs. of beating the banks. Well all I can say is sometimes God smiles at ya and you come out on top.......Roger

Possible Release Of Stripers In Table Rock Today
rogerdodger replied to Bigmo's topic in Table Rock Lake
As a warm water fly-fisher, I (and many others) would go crazy about a spring run of Stripers up our rivers. As a traditional angler fishing out of my little tin rocket (Xpress) I would have a few concerns. They certainly would be targeted. I caught 4 monsters many years ago on Norfork using waking baits slowly cranked in the surface film. Now men, that is some excitement. If I really had the power to help the bass fishery I would put a cap on tournaments a.k.a. "derbies", but I'm afraid that sacred cow has done sailed............. -
Very nice fish.......but having built and fished with darn near every hi-end rod made, starting with the wonderful Scott G series in the 80's the Z-Axis rods are truly something special. Tell ya what, I have a new in case St.Croix 10ft 6wt Ultra 2 4pc. rod that will roll cast a mile, it's fresh from the factory I'll take that shoddy Z-Axis off your hands. BTW, line weight and taper design have much more to do with roll casting than rod design. Try putting on a spey line and see how far you can roll cast.........

Just like curling up in bed with a rattlesnake.......many brands are doing quite well without them. To call BPS the Walmart of sporting goods is doing Walmart a dis-service.

I just bought my third one and feel compelled to mention what an utter gem of a baitcasting reel it is. I could have spent a whole lot more but I can't imagine finding a reel any better. It has got to be the best value going. Workmanship and design are outstanding. It's not often that a company hits one out of the park on their first swing. Also nice to hear that Lew's name, brings back many memories. It's good to get out of the embrace of Shimano who of late either produces something affordable but mediocre or super expensive and a jewel. I notice the company headquarters (at least warranty registration) is in Spfd. Mo on Bennett St. !!

They are in there. Here is an old pic of a 52 lb Flathead I caught one early spring on a 1 oz Double willow Spinnerbait.I feel this is the lake record for artificial baits unless someone proves me wrong.....any takers? They are the true apex predators of the lake.

I've tried them all, best for me,the light framed Smith poly-carb's. They have a no hassle warranty for life on structural defects, which I have actually used. They are the number 1# pick for m/cycle racing, ski sports and even have a combat line for soldiers, they have really mastered the polycarbon lens. Costa's haven't really changed much in 20 years. The weight of glass is a real hassle for me especialy in the warm months when I sweat, their weight causes them to begin sliding off my face, Also if you drop glass on a hard surface they tend to crack or get a nasty scratch. I don't even know I'm wearing my Smiths half the time and they stick like glue in the summer. It's amazing the difference a few onces can make. Best deals are on ebay...all of this is of course is IMHO..........Roger

There is nothing "elite" about tournaments. The people who do well are those who have paid their dues have worked hard to acquire skills. "Tournaments" by their very nature appeal to the baser elements of human nature. You can put any spin on it that you want but greed and pride are big motivators in this world plain and simple. It may sound corny but to many of us angling is a spirtual experience. When I have this view I don't have to win anything or beat others, each day is a blessing and there is no need to yell "thank you Jesus!!" when I land a fish that would put me at the top of the pack. Thinking that I should give up a bank because a "tournament" angler has shown up is laughable. Following one around as a "fan", well that's beyond words. Fishing for money is simply that, fishing for money. It gives veracity to the mantra "if it makes money it must be right" which is sadly the motto of our age. There, that's off my chest.
