If you think what happens at Zoe doesn't happen at a Phish concert at Verizon Ampitheater (or countless other bands with the same or similar demographic following), then I don't know what to tell you other than you're naive.

What a beauty! Glad to hear you released it.

I'm sure there are also guys dropping acid and eating 'shrooms, too, and a few more that are doing the hard stuff. But the point I made earlier has been all but ignored, so I'll make it again... For those of you who support this property seizure, I guess you're okay with the government also shutting down (just in St. Louis) Fox Theater, Scottrade Center, Edward Jones Dome, Verizon Ampitheater, Busch Stadium, The Pageant, Cicero's, Blueberry Hill...should I go on? .....because I don't know what kind of concerts y'all go to, but I'm not sure I remember a single concert that I've attended where I didn't smell weed at least once, and the place wasn't filled with drunks, and by law of probability there weren't at least a few people there on acid or 'shrooms or even coke or meth. One thing I do know, though, is that every one of them drove home later that night, whereas at least some of the Zoe partiers just slept in the mud and stayed off the roads. And I still haven't heard who these hippies were hurting. Anyone wanna tell me? I find the "poop washing into the Current River" complaint a weak one. Where do the hordes of floaters poop all summer?

Everything that has to do with the government is political. And my point was that everyone wants government to stay out of their business, but they never seem to mind when they're in someone else's. Just pointing out the hypocrisy, which IMO is the heart of the matter here. By the way, nice signature. Political? Nah...

And what's that difference, exactly? I find it comical how libertarian everyone pretends to be....until it comes to what someone else is doing, then government intervention is all fine and dandy. Pick a position and stick with it, peeps.

darn right, and if you support the seizure of the Zoe property, then you would also have to support the seizure of EVERY other venue that holds concerts. People smoke joints at concerts, and they gotta buy them somewhere, too. So unless you want to be relegated to Justin Beaver or whatever the little douchebag's name is, you better lighten up and as the Beatles said (who also played with some drugs, thankfully), let it be.

Very nice! Let's see it...

Moral of the story..."The lesson from this — one which has been learned the hard way across all kinds of fisheries — is to avoid reaching the crisis stage. This philosophy, known as the "precautionary principle," is beginning to take hold with the simple wisdom of erring conservatively in setting fish harvests." Amen. This is why my panties get all in a twist when we get into the smallmouth debate. Our expectations of Ozark smallmouth fisheries are extremely low, whether we are aware of it or not. And if our expectations continue to diminish with each passing year, eventually people will think of a smallmouth stream as a good one if it simply has fish in it at all. Imagine what the experience would have been like if you could have fished the White River in the 1500s...that's what our goal for fisheries should be now, not just "sustainable harvest," but to realize maximum potential. I read somewhere that in 17th and 18th century America, we used to feed lobster to prisoners on the east coast so often that they would throw fits and revolt over it...spoiled brats. Good article.

Trout Fishing...has Anyone Gone Yet?
eric1978 replied to mhall02's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
28 fished well today from about 11:30 when the clouds rolled in to around 1:00 when I left. Caught 19 in the two hours I was there...had one on just about every cast for about twenty minutes at one point. Nothing big, a couple may have been 15-16 inches. Had to run off a couple of Powerbaiters who I watched let a fish flop around in the dirt and lay there for about ten minutes while the guy who caught it talked on his phone and the other guy sat in his lawn chair and smoked a cig with the fish gasping for breath right next to his left foot. Finally he picked up the fish and ripped the hook out along with his guts. While I was scolding them I noticed three fish floating right around their area...one was still twitching in a desperate final effort to right himself. They were young guys, and they seemed genuinely surprised when I told them bait wasn't allowed on this lake until February, and I guess I can buy that...but the BRIGHT YELLOW sign that they walked right past states the regs clearly, and they still should have known how to treat a fish, regardless of how they go about catching it. I wanted to dunk them in the water, pummel the hell out of them and roll 'em around in the dirt until they were battered like a Gorton's fish stick, but I restrained myself. They left immediately. Lesson learned, hopefully. -
I tried one of his caddis emergers just for the fun of it. I didn't have any antron so I used tan dubbing for the body. He sure makes it look easy...it did end up taking me nearly a half hour to tie this one fly. Pretty sweet, though.

How's this for informative?

This whole argument is moot. The dams are up, and ain't goin' nowhere. The White is gone, never to return. Where's ness?

I'm Out Of Country For 10 Days

I promise to be good as long as ness doesn't press my buttons. -
No kidding...he's a true master of the art. That lead tape gives me the fits.
-
Yeah, he's pretty incredible. I've been watching his videos since I started tying. This one is my favorite...I haven't tied any (I think it would take me about 30 minutes to produce one of 'em), but it's an awesome looking bug.

Thanks for ruining my day.

Bump this thread in a couple weeks if it hasn't sold.

Touché. And all's well that ends well, I s'pose. But I know we had it comin', I know we disagree, But these threads just keep a-movin', And that's what tortures me.

Good word...had to look that one up. This train has gone and wrecked in dramatic fashion, and I think it's carried its last load of cargo.

6,000 members, and how many of them are active? The majority of those views are from the same 15-20 people who are either involved in or are keeping up with this thread, and most of the remainder are from people who never post. What's your point anyway? 1,500 views and only three (actually at least four) people find your constant, unnecessary and unwanted intervention annoying? Go make a citizens arrest or something if you feel the need to assert your authority. Keep it going if you wish...you led us here after all. I'm bored with it, but I'll keep playing the game if you feel you must.

If that's not Narcissus calling someone else Narcissus...take another look in the reflection pool, buddy...oh wait, you probably are, adjusting the little badge you made with construction paper and crayons. You question the number of my posts in the same breath that you nominate yourself moderator and forum psychiatrist? Your analysis isn't needed, it's dreadfully boring and it has less to do with the topic at hand than any other post in the thread, including the quasi-political ones. Clearly I'm not the only one who is tired of you handing down your adjudications from the mountaintop, so if you don't have something relevant to say, maybe you should keep your piehole zipped. Nice job derailing the thread completely. I bet these debates are far more annoying to the actual moderators than a few posts that curve outside the foul lines for legitemate conversation's sake. I'd like to see an example of each, especially the latter. If you're gonna sling an insult at someone, it works better if it wasn't just pulled out of your butt.

Trout Fishing...has Anyone Gone Yet?
eric1978 replied to mhall02's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
Yeah, it was. Sure wish I was the one who caught it. -
Yep, and access to the streams that run through the Ozarks is pertinent to the forum, dude. Retrace the thread...you'll see I didn't steer us in this direction. You just don't like me or my opinions, so you single me out. Get over it. This conversation was civil until you got involved. Obviously it's not IN the constitution, but the Supreme Court has never decided that it is unconstitutional. Maybe I should have phrased it that way...eminent domain is not unconstitutional. TF would be better with the technicalities. I'm no lawyer, and could be totally wrong, but if something isn't unconstitutional, doesn't that make it constitutional? Liberty: "autonomy: immunity from arbitrary exercise of authority, political independence, freedom of choice" I'd say marriage falls under that umbrella. No, you're right TF...eminent domain does not give the right to access a private citizen's land. But it does give the government the right to seize private property, with the appropriate compensation, for government or public use. So my point was, in a round-about way, that the government could, technically apply eminent domain to small streams to open them for public use...and of course compensate the landowners accordingly. It still wouldn't give anyone the right to wander through someone's field or forest, but you could travel through the waterway as a train travels a railroad that was built upon land purchased through eminent domain. Not saying it would ever happen, but one can dream, no?
-
No, but eminent domain is constitutional, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is liberty not guaranteed in the Bill of Rights? It's pertinent to the thread. Relax. It's been a friendly debate for the most part, so King Ness' intervention isn't needed at this point. Thanks for your concern. Goodbye.
