  1. I'll submit something when I get something to submit... Something akin to those on my website, but will be exclusive to OAF... At least for a reasonable time...
  2. What is this "too many" term you speak of? Too many flies? Impossible!
  3. Welcome to the forum. Yep, you missed some good bass fishing in Florida for sure. But still good fishing in the Ozarks...
  4. I'm with Duckydoty... Superbowl = Biggest waste of time and money in the history of mankind... Record it, then late tonight fast forward to the good commercials... I'd much rather be fishin'...
  5. Pshaw... Duckydoty and Leonard use those for bait to catch the little ones... And St Louie to Taney in 10 minutes in a G5? You need to take that thing in... Time for a tune up... Of course, I suppose I could lend you my transporter room... As long as you donate a supply of dilithium crystals... "Energize!"

And while you're there, if you haven't read them, go ahead and check out some of the others as well. There is a new one other than the Survivor story...

  13. Will have to pick it up. Until then, was it a positive article on the fishing or was it a tale of the woes caused by Overlook Mistakes... (Estates) ?
  14. SM is exactly right. Back several years ago when I was young and naive, I joined in the hopes of getting to try out all kinds of gadgets and tackle. I was primarily a crappie fisherman (crappie being the species, not the description of my abilities... well... OK... I was both...) Anyway, Okie, you were lucky if you got plastic worms and such... I got ZILCH... NADA... I was onto the idea after the first couple of months. They were selling a sub-standard magazine on the pretence of you belonging to a club and get to try new gear and even contribute to the rag... OH... this year I got another invitation from them and the NA Hunting C... At least I can use the note pads and the hunting one sent me a kewl deer clinger for my truck window. Take out the note pads and if you want the crappie magnet, then the rest goes in file 13... (Dang, I wish it had been a trout magnet...) By the way... Now I'm just OLD and naive...
  15. You know, Dano, you may have a good point. I never fished much for trout before fly fishing, but when I did it was with rooster tails and similar tackle. But I did a boo-koo of crappie fishing. When PowerBait came out, they had some for crappie and I decided to take "advantage" of that situation. Well, I still have that little jar in my fishing tackle as a reminder that I used it on 4 or 5 occasions and finally switched to jigs so I would catch crappie. I never caught a single crappie on that stuff.
  16. GOOD one, Don... I just wonder... Does Leonard have a "Slow Strip" gig in Nixa tonight? Maybe someone ordered him for your birthday party?
  17. Mark, I'm sure you know you were fishing the Bull Shoals tailwaters at Calico which is somewhat dependable fishing. At the confluence, it depends on where you are fishing, but not far upstream from the confluence, the fishing in the Norfork tailwaters is not that easy all the time. It is often challenging and downright frustrating at times. Unless, of course, you're casting corn and powerbait. Even then there are no guarantees. Yes, anyone can go to any river, lake, pond, or stream and fish without a guide and catch fish. (Even THIS "blind squirrel" stumbles onto an acorn at times... ) But, hiring a guide can make for a more productive and rewarding trip if you do not know the river. ESPECIALLY if you are not familiar with fishing tailwaters and ESPECIALLY the safety factors thereof. You might go to the Norfork tailwaters and land a 25 inch Brown. But, I'm willing to bet the farm that if John Berry is standing beside you, your chances of that are much, much higher. And I'm not a pro guide (or even an amateur one) and John doesn't even pay me to say this... (Unless you just WANT to slip me a twenty at Sowbug, JB... )
  18. Wherever you are... there is a Wally World close by... I may have to work tomorrow (Saturday) but if not, I might just venture down to RR and see what all the fuss is about... Even if Ducky and Flysmallie will hog all the water...
  19. Certainly not the EASIEST fly in the world to tie... But worth the effort. Click here for one of the best instructions and patterns of the Copper John.
  20. Click here for Crappie Candy pattern...
  21. Sinking line on a fly rod and fish slow and deep... 'nuff said...
  22. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!! I didn't know you was such a "im-po-tant" person... Live long and prosper, my friend...
  23. Eric, Click here to go to the thread in the Fly Recipe section for a discussion of shad flies. There are several good patterns for shad out there that are effective... Take a look at Jimmy T's shad flies on his website... And click here for one more source...
  24. I totally agree, RR. The first time I fished the Norfork, I had a guide. He was a friend who invited me to go fishing with him and knew the river well. Boy was I ever glad for two reasons. First, I was picking spots that held no fish and he would guide me to a spot that did hold fish. Second, he noticed the river coming up and got us out of there. I was very much a novice to tailwater fishing at that time, but learned a valuable lesson very quickly. Another time, a friend was on his way back home from Mt Home and commented he might stop by the Norfork on his way to do some fishing. A well-known guide we were talking to at the time gave him directions and fly selections. He emailed me a couple of pics the next day of two of the big browns he caught in the two hours he got to fish. Stocking of the Norfork tailwaters is around 140,000 trout total for the year. That's less than one trout per fishing trip (survey estimates 190,000 fishing trips to the Norfork tailwaters per year.) On occasion, fishing the Norfork is relatively "easy" as far as catching fish. Now, Pedre did not mention if he was fly fishing or using powerbait. That may makd some difference. But chances are you are not going to be "shooting them in a barrel" with either method....
  25. Well, I deal a lot with the metric system here at work, so I interchange inches with centimeters a lot.... That's my story and I'm stickin' to it... Hell, Leonard... it's been a lifetime since I had a TEN inch trout in my net...
