  1. What was that about prior to 1492 there were no taxes, the women did all the work, and the men hunted and fished... and the white man thought he could improve on that? Sad to say... We do bring it all on ourselves. Maybe the folks in the buggies over around Diggins are a lot smarter than we are....... Great pics, Phil. I remember coming to Table Rock when I was a kid with my folks and staying at a resort in a cabin right on the lake... and there were no boats on the lake and only one other couple at the resort... and you could not see any houses, golf courses, condos, or anything but squirrels and birds and trees on the shore everywhere you looked.... And tell me somethin' you "ol' timers"... Do I not recall driving "through" Silver Dollar City? It was like a "tourist trap" with craft shops and the like. This would have been like 1962-3 or so.... Maybe it was something else, but I seem to recall it was SDC...
  2. It's good ta be da king!
  3. I had not fished the Little Red since my "bait casting" days, but had the opportunity when my wife announced we were going to some friends' in Batesville for the weekend. Saturday morning was not to productive. Fished Cow Shoals and found it did not suit my style of fly fishing. I did manage to land 12... but they were all 4 inch Browns... After lunch, I moved up to JFK just in time to watch the river rise... They had just started generating. So, I went back to Batesville for some hot off the smoker pork ribs and turkey. Sunday morning was better. Landed a nice one at JFK, but the bank began to line up with mom, pop, brother, sister, and all twelve kids... So I moved down to Libby. Dodged a few boats coming through and churning up my drift line.... But I managed to land one on a scud and one on a Prince Nymph.... 'Bows that is... not boaters... although I did whiz a hook by one boat driver's ear for driving through my lane. Nothing to write home about, but sure beat a day mowing the grass...
  4. EW is not dead... He just smells that way.... Funny how those songs from that era are still hanging around and somewhat popular. Makes me think that someday they will be studying the works of Dylan, Allman, Winter, Van Zant, Bonham, and others right alongside Bethoveen, Bach, and Mozart... Wow... what a treat! Back in my "day" we got to do some openings for a few country artists, but never any rockers. Some of those guys can be real jerks. Others are just plain down home friendly... So, how was it?
  5. Tip #1... Hire "Night Angler" Leonard to take you...
  6. You bet... We do have short memories in the US... So we all need to reflect... I'd like to take it one step further.... 1. Where were you when you found out about the WTC? I was at work. I was walking to my office when the Engineering Manager met me in the hallway and said "Did you hear? They bombed the World Trade Center..." I looked at him and waited for the punchline... Thought it was a joke... Then realized he was serious. 2. What was your gut reaction to the situation? Honestly? I kept thinking I needed to go home and get my guns and ammo ready to protect my home and family from the invading army of terrorists... 3. Any personal links to the attack/disaster? I called my mom and she was worried about my cousin - her nephew - who had worked near the WTC and was in the WTC often. The only source of news was Yahoo news from Japan and I remember watching the webcast and waiting to hear if Gary was in the city or not. He wasn't. He had an appointment in the building a week before, but was home that morning. But his neighbor across the street and good friend (in Conneticut) was... left a wife and two kids...
  7. Maybe they have 39 days in October in Oz.... Sounds like a very kewl event, Steve. Wish I could make it...
  8. Can't help you much on the Bass clubs, but you are only 3-5 hours from the best duck hunting in the world. Anywhere on the Mississippi Flyway east of Springfield from... say... Cape G (?) down to Stuttgart, Arkansas. Depending on water and weather, you can pretty much go anywhere and find public land or rice fields to hunt. I just moved here from Jonesboro, AR (3 1/2 hours east on 60 and down 63) and you can find plenty of duck hunting in the rice fields within a 60 mile radius of Jonesboro. Again... Conditions dictate... but if everything is just right, you will see more ducks than you can shake a stick at... pit blinds in the rice fields are for lease on a yearly or day to day basis. In the AGFC public land, you can get in a blind on a "first come, first serve" basis. But your best bet is to get with a guide or someone who hunts there a lot the first few times... I'm sure there is someone on this forum that can help you with your Bass angling addiction...
  9. I wanted to get some information from some other guys I know before putting my two cents worth in. There are several reasons this could occur in a trout: Overpopulation (not likely in this case) Lack of sufficient food (even less likely, I assume) Parasites (a possibility) Deep hooking (very likely) Didymo (?) Whirling disease (Let's hope not...) Other disease Not being that familiar (yet) with Taney, my guess would be deep hooking a fish that breaks off is not "uncommon" here. But then again, some parasites are not that uncommon this time of year either. I'd like to hear from a MDC biologist on this one as well.
  10. I'm thinking about taking lessons from Leonard's and Brian's sons and your grandson.... sheeesh.
  11. Jeremy, How about an idea what you are going to tie each Tuesdays? Post it here on Monday or Tuesday and we can have an idea what to expect. Do we bring our stuff or is this a demonstration class? Is Dano learning anything? I like the all day Saturday session idea. Just let me know when and I'll try to make that one. After the other night, I NEED a casting refresher... plus I need some ideas on how to fish Taney.
  12. Have a capuccino and a scone while casting in the middle of Taney.... I've got to have a garage sale soon myself. We have TOO MUCH STUFF! The garage and storage unit are FULL!!! I'd like to come by and at least take a look...
  13. Not my favorite either, Wayne. I usually find a bush to hide behind while tying one on... But I wish I had taken a couple with me to the water Monday...
  14. So, guys... What color(s) San Juan Worm are most productive for you on Taney?
  15. Taking notes....... "Crappie........ Bull Creek....... riffles...... walleyes........ senic view" Oh... Hi guys!....
  16. I bow my "hillbilly-dom" to you, Don... That is, IF you were sittin' on a cooler full of beer when you were shooting...
  17. Welcome to the forum.
  18. And then there are the rest of us... A time-share at Cedar Lodge as a gift? Sure beats the tie I got for Father's Day... Welcome to the forum, Smallie...
  19. That must have been the light we kept seeing downstream from us last night. Sure didn't have to fight for a spot to fish from 10-1am....
  20. Hello Parks... Welcome to the forum. Tell us a bit about yourself.
  21. Actually, what you might be surprised to fine - if all goes as planned - is there will still be a sufficient population of smaller fish to give you a good day of line tugs, but the fight will be better. Overall, these fish are healthier and fight better. And if history is repeated, Yeah, you might not see 100 + fish days, but I'd take 20-30 2 to 6 lb fish over 100 half-pounders any day.
  22. I'm guessing here, but I have talked with a couple of AGFC biologists and other biologists who would agree on this one. A lake, stream, wooded area, range, etc. has a certain "capacity" it can properly maintain. Within its ecosystem there is a certain amount of life supporting factors - area/volume, oxygen levels, and food source levels- that are key factors in this "capacity." The total number of pounds of fish, deer, squirrels, ducks, quail, snakes, scuds, or other life forms is determined by these. With most land animals, the total number of animals in a given ecosystem is the result, with minor differences in weight. (The exception would be the Key deer in Florida.) With fish, the number of bass/fish in the lake increases, the "total pounds" stay the same (somewhat), but the average size decreases. When the number of fish decreases, the average weight increases. Simple statistics. There are two ways to increase the size of fish in a given ecosystem: 1. Increase the capacity of the ecosystem (more food.) 2. Decrease the population of the target species. Deer management, fish management, etc. are all the same. Limits and regulations are determined by several factors, but the one that guides them the most is the ecosystem status and population. Simply put - SWEPCO has so many bass in it that the average size is small. Note I said AVERAGE size... The change in regulation is to decrease the total population, but increase the average size, thus making it more of a trophy lake. This has been a successful program in many lakes all over the US.
  23. Changes in regulations with AGFC are due to one of three reasons: 1. The commisioners want a regulation change that agrees with the biologists recommendations... 2. The commisioners want a regulation change that agrees with the feedback from public meetings... 3. The commisioners want the regulation change regardless... As for adoption of any of them, any regulation changes will not go into effect until January 1. I think they vote on them in September. We probably won't know until October or November.
  24. Welcome aboard!
  25. Well, it's offical. Nixa, MO will never be the same... "The Clampetts" are movin' to NIXA!!... Just got back to work from signing the lease on the HOUSE in Nixa... Don't have to settle for the townhouse!! YIPPEEEEE!!!! I know the prayers of my friends and family really did help in this matter. Now if the movers can just get me in by next Friday... So keep those prayers going!! And thank all of you for the prayers for this house. God is good! All the time! And... All the time... GOD IS GOOD!! ALL THE GLORY TO HIM!!!
