  1. OK all you fellow hillbillies... help me out here. Have any of you ever had vinegar cobbler? Anybody got a great recipe for it? I've got a couple I'm going to try out and I'll let you know if one of them works out for me. My ex-mother-in-law made the best, but don't think she would share her recipe with me now... Tonight, I'm trying this one: 2 1/2 c water 3/4 c vinegar 2 c sugar 1/4 c cornstarch 1 tsp nutmeg Pie crust Boil first five until syrupy. Pie crust used just like any cobbler. Bake 375 for 30-35 min. I'll let you know if it's any good...
  2. Sounds like sexual harrassment to me, Don. You should sue... Of course, I'd rather be a Fundulus catenatus aka Northern studfish, except the SOUTHERN version... Click here for hornyhead chub
  3. Click here... this might help...
  4. OK... I'm going to the Norfork to fish now... Now... is the rumor that Mr Ducky is havin' Leonard's baby or is Leonard havin' Mr Ducky's baby?
  5. Did I mention the job they offered me? Six figure salary just to fish from Lilly's up to outlet 1... Wow, Phil... I sure do like the guys you left in charge...
  6. Yes... temp extremes on mono can cause brittleness. PTFE has a much higher resistance to temp extremes. Russ.... send them the lengths. They may not be able to do all the testing they want to, but they can get some ideas with a short piece. I know they can do tensileand elongation, which are prime measurements.
  7. WF, I raised two through their teenage years. My advice - duct tape and a vault in the basement to keep them in until they are 18 or 21... your choice...
  8. I would be anxious to find out just exactly what material it is made of... I know it may be a "secret blend of seven herbs and spices" or something, but at least an idea of what makes it "flourocarbon"...
  9. JoRob... I thought you hauled your stuff in a 48 foot semi tractor/trailer...
  10. 12 ga pump 12 ga side by side 16 ga auto 20 ga pump (2 to choose from) .22 auto .30-06 bolt .270 bolt 8mm Mauser bolt .45 cal muzzle loader .50 cal muzzle loader .17 cal air rifle Take your choice from the "short list" Tightline... You can bet if he was in my back yard, he would get something from one of these unless the killer Yorkies took care of him first... I would not routinely kill any snake in the wild, unless he was venemous, striking at me, and aggresive. OR... I was lost and stranded for a couple of days without food.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm (ala Les Stroud and Bear Gryles...)
  11. CONGRATS!!! Another Ducky... another fly fisherman... KEWL!!!
  12. Is it true that there is a "buy one get three free" sale on everything at Lilly's Fly Shop this month? And stay one night get two nights free? And boat rental a dollar a day? Don't worry 'bout a thing, Phil... The staff has everything under control...
  13. Now that there's funny, I don't care who you are... Please forgive me, Lord, and be with the Pygmies down there in New Guinea...
  14. Just watch out for blind golfers... they play at night... and their aim ain't that good...
  15. I admit to once having the "only good snake is a dead snake" syndrome. And when I first see on under my feet, I still am prone to a heart attack. But, I agree with you, Ham and MTM. They have their place. I no longer kill snakes unless they are copperheads, cottonmouths, or rattlers and only then if they are in MY territory or give me one of those heart attacks... Send me to jail, but if I find a copperhead on my patio, he is in eminent danger... Same with black widder (widow) and brown recluse spiders, rabid skunks, and armadillos... OH... and purple dinosaurs....
  16. Hybrid Exponential Balloon Payment We know what payment means... We know what a balloon is... Exponential is broken down: Ex... former wife. pon... that water hole where cows take a pee and take a dump. en... not out. tial (pronounced "chull") Hybrid is broken down: Hy - not low brid - what a female gets when she is in "season"... Sounds like that payment is gonna feel like you've been brid real hy in the chull with somethin' the size of a balloon that will feel worse than your ex comin' back and smell worse than a pon... Let's see... A tank of gas at $60... times 5.84 percent per year for 30 years... naught times naught is naught... carry the 5... HOOOOT DOG! I dun made me $10,440!!!!!!!!!
  17. WF, Dano and I (And I think Cripple Caddis) put vintage Pfleugar Medalists on the rods we have. That reel just sets that rod off. Of course, any vintage looking reel will do the same. I got the hint from Dano and found on on eBay at a good price and in great shape made in Arkansas back in the 60s or 70s.
  18. World Record Redear is 5 lb, 7 oz... MO record is 2 lb, 7 oz from Whetstone Creek... AR record is 2 lb, 14 oz from Lake Bois d'Arc... Go get'em boys!! Bring the fillets to me and we'll have a big fish fry!!!
  19. Chris, Is there any limit or estimate of the amount of water that would be diverted? What portion of the river would this be taken from? What methods would be used? I'm pretty sure these are gas drilling rigs, and from my experience, they do not use an enormous amount of water per rig. Certainly not as much as oil rigs. But the quantity of rigs and expected depth (on the rig permit) might have an impact. I'm also wondering why they want to draw from the river. Is there no impoundment access available to them such as small lakes and farm ponds? I think we need ALL the facts before we take a knee-jerk reaction.
  20. Thanks, Al... Now where did Mule Lipper get his name? (I've "lipped" horses and mules in years past to get them to "mind their manners"...) I've never heard them called "Jack Salmon"... new one for me...
  21. YES I DO!!! (OK... OK... OK... I know... you do not want a WEAKNESS there to come between you and the fish...) What we know as "flourocarbon" line/leader/tippet is probably actually made from polytetrafluoroethylene resins or PTFE or similar resins. There are actually eight (8) different polymers that can be called "flourocarbon." I suspect that whichever one is used, it is mixed with "fillers" of some kind. (The word "Fourocarbon" covers a big family of "stuff" including plastics, refrigerants, propellants in aresol cans, solvents, and even anesthetics. That's right... the stuff they put you to sleep with at the hospital.) PTFE is better known as "Teflon"... yep... that stuff at the bottom of your frying pan that makes it "non-stick"... You can also compare it to GoreTex, Scotchguard, and a few other known products. As I understand it, it is also one of the coatings used on fly lines. IF the leader material is a PTFE, then there is a very high resistance to chemicals and a high tolerance to heat and cold - 40 below to about 480 deg F. It is also highly resistant to radiation. Its "cousin" PVF could be the polymer used to make leaders, but it has much the same properties. I'm not sure what caused the breaks you experienced, but the material is not to blame. There could be some manufacturing defects (voids, bad filler, or other defects) that cause a particular spool, leader, or batch to be "bad" but don't rule out flouro leaders and tippets because of one or two problems.
  22. You didn't read the fine print, did you Don?
  23. Russ, Just to "ease your pain" a bit, all of this is just "lawyer-ese" to justify more and more legal fees. It's just a couple of kids on the playground exchanging "did not"s and "did so"s... How else are they going to get more of our tax dollars?
  24. Just a bit of FYI, JD... Hillary is from Chicago... and now lives in New York... Bill is the Arkie. But to that end, Chicago is "its own little world" too.
