  1. Great report. Reminds me of my own son at 14. By then he was tying his own flies and outfishing me most trips and I loved it. Now my grandson also gives me a run for my money. Actually both grandsons. I will never forget the night at Lilleys when the boys woked me at 2 AM with a 5 pound rainbow caught on black jigs they had tied that afternoon. I just got back to sleep and there was another one around the same size. They were about the middle and down from the dock in our boat in front of the house there and bouncing off the bottom in the nice hole that used to be there below a riffle. Memories!!
  2. My grandson Zach and I are fishing Smithville lake this saturday for crappie. Zach lives in the area and his friends are telling him that the crappie are really turning on in the lake. We will try minnows, purple/yellow/black jigs with crappie nibbles. Any suggestions of what color nibbles or other enticements for a sucessful trip?
  3. hey Mhall I you ever see a blue 2010 lazer blue Yukon and a guy with usually a orange OA cap or orvis cap stop me and say Hi.
  4. Stocked fish wednesday at Busch. I was out at 28 yesterday and one guy told me he had caught over 100 fish thursday and I saw him land and release at least 30 fish in the two hours I was there. yellow and red spinner baits. While I was leaving around 430 he caught three in a row throwing about 40 feet or so toward the deeper water at the boat storage area. I was fishing fly rod with jigs, egg fly, y2k and elk hair caddis (when they were near the shore hitting on top). The ice will be here soom so if you want to get in on the shore fishing this is the week. I kept busy the whole time I was there with several fish. Changing flies a lot to see what would work. One guy walked up behind me while back casting and wanted to know how to fish his fly rod. I gave him a few hints and an egg fly (blood red) and he had one on in about 10 minutes. These are all nice size fish also. Most over 13 inches some smaller but all fighting hard. Does anyone know which hatchery these fish come from.
  5. Fished lakes 21 Friday and 28 Wednesday. Interesting how lots of folks can't read. Politely suggested that fishing with bait not allowed on these lakes. Friday lots of fish hitting on top. Elk hair caddis on top and y2k unweigted and dressed lightly with floatant on top got lots of hits and 4 nice fish. All over 13". After the rain stopped I had the lake to myself and the wind had it looking like glass. Yesterday when I arrived everyone told me that the fish weren't hitting anything ... all were fishing spinners probally because the rises were mostly off the shore to far for the flyrod. I decided to use the fly rod in closer and got lucky. I fished what worked last year at 28 after the fish got spookey and it worked very well. I floated a simple 3/8 diameter egg fly blood red with a small tung bead on a 2487 scud hook size 14 about 20 " deep at the edges all around the lake. 4 nice fish again in about 90 minutes. Bait fishercheats (fishing with bait) both lakes both days. Could be that their bait falling off in the shallows is what made my fishing method work. Still fun to have a tug at the end of the line until I can get back to real fishing at Taney.
  6. If you are over 65 you can get a lifetime onetime card and the daily tags are free. Still need out of state fishing permit if you are not IL resident. Check it out at the national wildlife office or website. I purchased one when at south padre Island area and to fish for reds and trout and have used it several times since. Just check in locally when you are on National land.
  7. Actually several lunkers are stocked at Busch lakes each winter just all of the folks there don't release them so unless you are there or have a nighbor or friend that witness them it just don't get reported. My grandson caught one last year and released it at 21.
  8. If the trout are midging I have had good luck tying a red or cherise san jaun as the upper fly and then a zebra black tung head or a rusty brown black tung head about 8" to 12" below. You then fish the rig so the midge will be shallow below the smallest indicator that will float the midge high in the current. Most of the fish will be caught on the midge as it dead floats in the current. be sure to keep your line mended and not drag the flies excecpt at the end of the float across the swing. Don't wait for the indicator to go completely under because sometines it will only stop or bearly wiggle on the surface. Don't hesitate to try different depths with the rig until you find where the fish are then sit back and enjoy steady action until the hatch moves elsewhere.
  9. By the way; your grammar is a tragedy. Not saying that I'm perfect but dam. Enough said! yowsir cricket. You is not need to post on this foram unless you be got educatation like us. 10. Latest on the rumor mills is that the Rangers are moving their franchise next year. First international team ... now in the Philipe Islands = Manila. The new name of the club will be the MINALA FOLDERS
  11. They were simply doing their job. I have seen the park officials checking for violations several times and in fact on day witnessed and reported a violation of a morning, noon and evening family being ticketed for over 100 fish in their van and another huge bunch at their cabin. I causually mentioned that i had observed this guy filling stringers and to the guy fishing next to me. He marched him out of the water and searched his van. He was an agent of some sort. I got a letter from his department from the info that I provided a $400 fine and lost priviledges to fish Mo for 3 years was assesed. The violater was out of state, Kansas Ihink.
  12. Stayed at Sand Springs last week and arrived at 5 PM to a sign in the window "out to pick up canoes" fished a while and returned to find the only one at the check in was someone cooking pizza so after waiting for the reasturant business to get done so I could get checked in I found the room with two light bulbs out and everytine else unpluged except the light bulb in the bathroom.. Finally after getting the lights on I unpacked in the dark because the outside light was burned out also and it was now dark outside. Resturant closed during the week. the maid told me that nothing was open except in Lebanon. Wrong the lodge was open and had a great meal there. Larrys cedar resort would be my recommendation. Wasn't going to post my bad experience but since you asked.
  13. Hey Leonard ... Zachary fished a PMS that you showed him how to tie and caught a 4 pound smallmouth right at the litte outlet from the hatchery fishing toward the bluff and stripping across and over the moss there. He also landed several bows on it also.
  14. aaaaa CARDS GO. WOW, A CHANCE FOR ANOTHER PLAY OFF TEAM.
  15. Nice Leonard. I hope to get down again this year. My wife works full time and we work it aroung her schedule. She did get trout fever last year so we are up for some time on Taney yet this year.
  16. Not for the real Cardinal fans. Hot three way race ... what's to not like??? Sell out frequently. Third largest draw in whole industry. Competing with the teams in both divisions. Hovering at or near first place with a great cinderalla team Pittsburg who is red hot. Milwaukee who won the division last year. Berkman third in NL batting ave.for a while. Pujols playing with an injury that most primadonnas would be on DL with. 22 hr. 281 ave and 60 runs scored ... that a great season for a lot of good players. Yea no super stars but good team spirit and consistant wins over leading teams in both divisions. Won most of the series since the beginning of the season even with Pulhos and Holliday (batting Ave. 310) playing hurt or DH list. What world are you living in? Oh fair weather boo hooo bush league fan league. BTW What is this "I we too busy watching the nc central race.??" What is the NC central race??? Is that an arkansas league?
  17. Just tried it and it is working fine. Except it makes me a little jealous that I am not there sitting on the dock looking at the lake. Right click and select full screen for best panamora. One more week and I will be there for a short trip. Getting anxious.
  18. Hey Buddy just kidding around a little and maybe a bit jealous stuck at home planning a trip soon. BTW what stream were you floating. Hope you had more catching than fishing. Good luck. Sent a message to your profile page.

  21. Great professional police work in St Charles and Missouri courts: Trailer thiefs made an example will get fines and jail time for sure. http://www.stltoday.com/suburban-journals/stcharles/news/crime/article_9a1adab8-1326-5ba9-b9fc-98299a3351f5.html refreshing to see our Sherrifs and courts doing their jobs.
  22. also privacy laws pertaing to reporting prevent limited reporting of illness only that fecal material is present. If you owned property on LOZ would want to let it be known that the water is polluted. It is in fact and practice. You can see the lines coming to the edge of the lake running into the water.
  23. Great piece of photography. I was able to see the fly and the hit. Also great job of keeping out of the overhangs and getting the fly right into the bank with a good drift under the cover. Thanks for the great video.
  24. what material is that for the wings. Bucktail?
  25. How do you fish Busch at night... I thought they closed the gate at dusk!
