  1. I'm sure it will only get more crowded over the next few days. I'm planning on heading up that way either tomorrow afternoon or Saturday myself. If you see a blue mustang parked by the boat ramp, feel free to wade out and say hello.
  2. That was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Yeah defenitely woulda kept the fish, and not ate it either. Guess it's just my ego, but I would love to have a state record and have the proof on my wall. I'm never going to feel guilty about keeping any legal fish though, thats just me.
  4. Personally, I always do better with weighted fly's in that area. In the park and the river as well, even if it's slow, you can usually get bites when fishing near the bottom. My "go-to" fly in the park is a weighted orange glow ball, fished about 4 1/2 ft below an indicator. It's always been productive for me when everything else just isn't seeming to work.
  5. Heck yeah it works! I'm a big fan of anything Leonard ties though. I brought around 40 trout to hand on his flies last Friday night, and I'm just a beginner flyfisherman. Actually caught my first Taney trout that night, even though it wasn't my first time fishing there.
  6. Water seemed back to normal in the park, very clear.
  7. Hahaha! Now that was an adventure! At least we know the secret spots at Crane now.
  8. Thank you. I can't afford to buy a new rod right now, but I hope to be able to sometime in the next couple of weeks.
  9. Went yesterday morning and what a beautiful day it turned out to be! I started fishing at 8:00 and there was almost no one else there for about the first hour. I mainly fished Zone 1 and started fishing a sculpin pattern with no luck. Eventually I gave up on that and switched to an orange egg. Man did they tear that thing up! I fished that until it wore out and then went through the red and pink variations until I either broke those off or wore them out as well. Moved on to some swifter water and caught a couple stripping a black woolie before I changed to scuds. The fish were biting pretty consistently the whole time I was there. If anyone makes it up this weekend, have a blast because the fish are biting. Good Luck!
  10. I currently have a 5wt with floating line. I'm guessing that's not ideal for night-fishing Taneycomo. Would a 7wt with a sinking line be better for this particular type of fishing? Just wondering what the best set up would be. Thanks
  11. I'm thinking of heading up there tomorrow or Saturday for a few hours of fishing. Just wondering if anyone will be in the area.
  12. I think they have Water Patrol dedicated to the Niangua (at least I always see them there), but they usually have their hands full with people treating the river like it's Bourbon St, New Orleans. That whole river is just ridiculous during the summer.
  13. Yup, I got a 9ft, 5wt TFO Pro from Bass Pro and it came with a Hobbs Creek reel for a penny. It came with line as well and even some 3x tippet. I think I spent around $160 total for it and I love the rod. In fact I'm thinking about buying another one thats 7wt.
  14. Thank you for inviting me out. I had a fantastic time and learned a lot of stuff about flyfishing. Turns out, I am a big fan of the streamers. It was great to meet so many of the people from the forum as well. Looks like everyone had a good day. Steve, Thanks again for the early morning Biscuits & Gravy.
  15. Thank you. I picked up some 5x this afternoon and will probably start with streamers now also.
  16. I normally fish a 6x tippet in the parks, but I just got some streamers that are a lot bigger than the flies I normally fish with. Does it make sense to change to a bigger tippet if I am using a bigger fly? Just looking for a suggestion on whether or not to change it.
  17. With the water back to "normal" the Niangua should be fishing well now also. Anyone tried it lately?
  18. Fishing trips sound good. I have only been on two saltwater trips. One in the flats off of Key West; spent the morning messing around with some sharks and then sat outside the marina for over an hour because the girls we were with (and our ride) had went swimming without emptying their pockets and thus killed their cell phones. Needless to say we were not able to reach them by phone and they were late because they had rented a moped and couldnt find a place to park it while they were coming back to get us. The next summer I fished off of the southern coast of Mexico while on vacation and caught a sailfish. Went with the same girl, this time she spent four hours throwing up in the cabin of the boat. Turns out the deep sea is not for her. lol. I like to think it was revenge for leaving us at the marina in the Keyes. Planning a trip to Costa Rica this March, hopefully I get to spend a day on the water there.
  19. Jamaal Charles is only going to get better over the next couple of years. It's too bad they won't let Haley go after only a year. He is garbage imo.
  20. BSSP and the Niangua for 18 years now. I started chunking dough bait in Zone 3 at age 11 and eventually progressed and moved up towards the head of the spring. A little longer (maybe a couple of years) below the spillway at Pomme De Terre. I couldn't see over the fence when I started but man did my dad and his brothers pull some monster catfish out of there back then.
  21. I have a 5wt TFO rod also. Glad to hear that their customer service is so great. I haven't ran mine over yet but I'm glad to know that if I do I will get a replacement right away.
  22. Well it is official, Johnson is gone and Priest Holmes' team rushing record stands for the time being. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4637300
  23. I'm guessing this is long gone?
  24. Yeah I don't think there is a C&R area at Bennet. Last time I was there it had three zones: one for flies, one for other artificial baits, and one for live baits. I have been fishing there for 18 years and do not remember ever seeing a C&R area.
