  1. Nope, I have just spent my entire life fishing light lines. If I was fishing waters that a 5# fish is a real possibility, I would likely upgrade to a heavier setup and run something in the 6-8# range on spinning tackle.
  2. Thanks Wayne. I may go that route then. Rarely do I fish crystal clear waters, but when I do, I will probably put a leader on. Randy, I am not the one to debate light line tactics with. I love light lines and can land any fish quickly and without undue stress on them.
  3. I keep meaning to pick up some 10/2 PP for my 5'6" L spin rod, but get sticker shock once in awhile. I will need about 300 yards for it. I guess I will grab a new reel at the end of the month too.
  4. A soft craw or tube will work to catch lazy fish, and for active fish, you can trick them into hitting a shallow running crank or spinnerbait banged off cover.
  5. Have you fished anywhere other than in the eastern part of the state? If not, I don't really want to hear it. You say things and expect people to take your opinion as gospel, based upon your 250-300 days on the water. It takes more than that to attract followers on here.
  6. Big Sugar Creek is the clearest stream I have seen. Buzz is right on that one.
  7. Baitcasters, 5'6"-6'6" M-MH
  8. Yes, line will stretch, but to count on line stretch is a fool's bet. Use your tackle as intended and all will be fine. Drags are a wonderful thing.

  10. How is this stream NOT floatable? That creek looks 40 feet wide, and if it is over 6" deep, two guys can float a 16' Old Town down it. I don't see your issue there. Regarding your belief of line stretch absorbing surges from fish, but that is what the tip section of rods (and the drag on your reel) are for. The butt is for putting pressure on a fish, the tip protects the line. I'd think a guide of your stripes, albeit self applied, would know that you don't count on line stretch to protect your line. Sorry, I can't buy that you are this almighty guide who has done everything, yet you make remarks like this.
  11. Randy, do you use your 40/10 on baitcasters without issue? Doesn't the line dig in on itself?
  12. That is in the other corner of the state. That is a nice Neosho smallmouth bass, which only live in the Elk and Spring drainages in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, along with a few other little trickles here and there.
  13. You focused on that rather than the trout on 14# line? Wow, I see your concern is getting people off of UL gear.
  14. I have 10# and 14# on my casting reels, likely going 12 on both as soon as I can. On my spinning reels, I use Vicious Ultimate in 4# and Sufix Elite in 6#. I can attest to the fact that I have caught both bass and trout, and some nice ones on all of them, including the ultralight from crystal clear waters to muddy waters.
  15. Beautiful fish, my personal favorite. Nicely done gents.
  16. You shouldn't be chasing strippers anyway...
  17. I hope you are definitely legal. My main issue now that I look back on it was that we had put this issue to bed and your first post is about the Alabama Rig. If it tickles your fancy, I am happy.
  18. Oh well, have fun. You can't tell everyone anything.
  19. You point out the pros, yet refuse to acknowledge the cons. You did insult people, but that's fine. Use your 7 posts for something constructive rather than stirring the pot. You keep calling this a lure. It is NOT a darn lure. It is terminal tackle, deemed illegal already in a few places. Can you cast it? I suppose if you are using a catfish rig, you could lob it, but it will take the fun out of the fishing experience. Where did I say it is unfair? I said it is unsporting, much like hunting turkey with a shotgun at close range. KU does suck, but Missouri only allows three hooks, so there isn't much difference there. You cannot tell me that you want to go fish with all five hooks set up on it in Missouri. If you do, you deserve the fines. I have a sense of humor, but when someone calls their post the Pros of the A Rig and proceeds to say, "So go ahead and hate if you want...but in my opinion the people that are upset or against this thing are perhaps being a little bit selfish, and a little blinded to the mostly silver lining this bait has created," their opinion has become null and void with calling people selfish and blind. Thank you, hope you can learn to read your own posts before you decide to tell someone they are wrong.
  20. You claim to want the facts out there about this rig, yet use a fake picture? Hmm, maybe I was right.
  21. You realize that the Alabama Rig isn't a bait, right? Oh well, if you want to use it in Missouri, use the appropriate number of hooks. It is illegal to use all five. Also, in Kansas, the legal limit is 2, so that negates this setup again. Please enlighten us on the silver lining of this cast or trolled trotline. Tell us why we are closed minded to something like this other than the fact that it isn't, IMO, completely sporting. I guess your name isn't too far off judging from your lack of veiled insults at people who disagree with the Alabama Rig
  22. They stock a LOT of big fish in Lake Shawnee.
  23. Kansas has some nice bass fishing lakes. We don't have any stream fishing because of the nature of stream access in the state, but the lakes can fish very good.
  24. We all do. I did some lawn casting today, that is the extent of my outdoor activity in a week.
  25. If I read that right, you said Big Sugar in Bella Vista? Big Sugar never flows through Bella Vista. Little Sugar does. Big Sugar flows up around Cyclone, Powell and Pineville. I am watching this thread as I wouldn't mind spending some time in Arkansas this year.
