  1. You have a great custom rod builder right in your back door at Phillips WI. Elk River Rods. Call them and they will Make an outstanding rod of the blank of your choice for less than you can get it about anywhere. Check them out. They also have an outstanding warranty on them.
  2. Please think again! the trouble that is involved in that kind of outfit would over shadow any fun you would ever have while trying to fish with it. Weak spring, grit, line wear, Spring breaking, clutch slipping, re-winding. I could go on & on. The key word you used is cheap! That's just my opinion and with that and $2.00 you can get a cup of coffee,
  3. What about on the Eleven point, Spring, and Current rivers and the shops that have a good selection of flies and gear.
  4. I like these shirts made by Aqua Design. They have Aqua Shield UV Sun Protection also. $43.00. Never need ironing has all the designes of fly fishing shirt, Vented back. 6 cargo pockets, roll up button sleeves.
  5. One month till the event. (September 17th.) We have some great prizes and some great guy's and gal's signed up. Should be a great day on the river for everyone.
  6. Had a great time there Saturday Afternoon despite all the rug sharks running across the falls and swimming among the fish LOL. Still caught 8 in about 3 hours (Trout Not Kids). Olive and grizzly streamer and Trout Magnet was taking then deep at the end of the grass beds. The 8' to 10' deep eddies behind rocks were holding fish. I had forgot how much fun it is to wade in the big boulders on the bottom. It looked like the dough baits were catching fish for the bait anglers. Laseter's hole was good also until about dark and the swim crew showed up & I had to come back up north anyway. Looking forward to getting back when I have more time. It is a day to fish the current in the A.M. and the Spring River in the afternoon. 1.5 hour one way. After we had supper at Freds Fish House and drove home it was 10:30 P.M. But a good day.
  7. Found this at the shop today and had to have it. & by gosh It works. I used it with a 9.5 5# rod today. I really like the way it holds the line too. New Gadget link
  8. Report Link For Montauk State Park
  9. So with the rules that have in place now 6 Brown trout could be taken at 15"?????? I don't realy care about the rainbow's that the state want to give up inside the park but at this point I for one hate to see the trophy water we worked so hard for get robbed of the fish that wander into the onslot of the park. Heck give them 10 Bows a day if they feel they can keep pace with the put & Take of the park.
  10. No links to this yet it's just came out & Pacific Fly Group don't have a info link on it. They have a smaller one just like it for $30.00 also it's called the Shenandoah Fly Pack.
  11. Clear Creek makes one that is and it don't have 1/2 the room and it's $59.00. & this one don't put strain on your neck if you get the waist belt snug.
  12. The new Yellowstone fly pack from Pacific Fly Group just came out. I just loaded my vest into and onto the new wading pack.I was amazed at the ability to hold everything that was stored in the vest, It has a drop down bench, and is full of all kinds of d rings, and slots for storing and hanging stuff. The adjustable neck strap and wast belt keeps it out of the water to mid waist. It is a great pack for only $40.00.
  13. Hey Guys glad to see you all on here! (Mammoth Spring Trout Shop) Hope to see you all soon. Thanks for the report and I for one am happy to see the traffic with the unruliness slowed down a bit.
  14. Welcome to the forum and back to Montauk. Fished Montauk and Current river about 3 day's a week for the past few years both winter and summer. Great place to spend some time.
  15. Also in the bulk you have to be careful of moths getting in it and ruining it. Quiet a mess!
  16. I can just tell you that Cortland has been making line & cord since before WW2 and They make some great fly line and the camo tippet is also a great product. I have used the 333 WF5 line and had no complaint at all. I have used the Rio Wind Cutter and I had an issue in warm water of the first 10 yards getting heavy after a few hours of fishing. It was fair in cold water, but the prices compared the the 333 was a little high.
  17. Welcome to the Ozarks Angler

  18. You can dump them in your pond and the bluegill go nuts over them, no poisons are on then pure protean to grow the fish LOL. Also the fly worked great for trout.
  19. I went on a short road trip yesterday and ended up at Shepard Of the hills and the Hatchery. Being someone that can't stand the heat and always has a 4-5wt rod four fly boxes in the vest waders & boots I could not stand not wading in about wast deep. 99 degrees when I arrived at about 1:20. Just as I was about to leave the car the horn blew. I had not thought I was going there to fish I suspected them to run all 3 because of the hot weather.but they only ran 1. Another angler was good enough to tell me a midge was working and a crackleback. When I heard crackleback I was already ready. Their was quiet a crowd around the outlet pulling stockers out of the current. Being from Montauk and The current I just don't like to do the crowd and the easy thing. I went just arounf the bend towards the dam and found no one there. As I was walking up I saw a beautiful bow about 4# swimming by a small cut in the bank. I had a #16 black wooly bugger on and cast it just above and the the right of it. Bam it turned and took it then went wild. It took about 20 yards off the reel before it stopped mid stream. Being from a smaller stream and not fished Taney I had forgot the trick that the fish do there. Hug the bottom and open their mouth into the current. Then when they see that is not going to work let you get them up close then go wild on a second run and leap, which set the free. But it was fun. I then put on one of my home fly's a Bule/Balck Crackleback, the fish did not like it on the dry side but at the end of the drift and about 3 to 7 short strips at the end of the drift they loved it. and in 3 hours I had 18 fish and about that many short nipps. And to top it off I had one at just shy of 22". I love that place LOL I Intended to drop by Lilly's but time and the cool air made me late to leave. You guy's down there have a great stream.

  21. The Cortland CDM Disc Mid Arbor for $39.00 with backing, 5wt line Is a great little starter reel. (line and backing is included)
  22. Hey Guys & Gals give us some reports for the upper Spring River Please! Are you folks from The Mammoth Spring Campground on here?
  23. Just a thought, What if the Elk protection rule was like the Brown Trout Rule. During the legal deer season if an elk wondered off of the protected area (Peck Ranch) any deer hunter with a deer tag could legally take the elk under the open deer season rule? But I guess they thank more of the elk as to close all these loopholes in the elk rule. Funny to see a 6+6 elk in the back of a big Dodge Ram Truck driving around the county to show it off.
  24. In response to an e-mail sent yesterday. Thanks for the information. Please recall that brown trout are managed under a statewide 15" minimum length limit, and then selected waters are managed under more restrictive length (18" or 20") and daily limits. To my knowledge, the situation that you describe has not been a major concern in the past. I have copied Fisheries Regional Supervisor, Dave Mayers, and ask him to consider this issue in more detail and provide appropriate comments. Chris Vitello Fisheries Division Chief 2901 W.
